NOS Raliegh Professional Identification
I just got a real sweet deal on a NOS Raliegh Professional at my LBS. It’s completely dressed in Campagnolo Chorus with Columbus Zona double butted tubing. This thing rides beautiful.
Yea I know it’s a Raliegh……… But once you get by the name it just bleeds classic Italian and everything on it is pretty high end. The owner of the bike shop has been around for quite awhile. Believe it or not he still has Raleigh bikes new in the boxes dating as far back as the 70’s!!!!
He himself did not know exactly what year it is. I called Raleigh and they said they think it is an 03 based on the color. For some strange reason she could not give me a year based on the serial number???
Any Raleigh experts out there? I know it is not exactly vintage, but I though I would ask here since this is where most of the people seem to hang out who would be knowledgeable enough to decipher this serial number…….

Any ideas???

That's pushing the envelope in the definition of vintage.
Now about those boxes from the 70's...

"That's pushing the envelope in the definition of vintage." & "Or classic!"
My original post indicated that I knew it was not vintage or classic. All I was looking for was some help in determining the year. To cb400bill, thank you very much, I do appreciate it. For others that just want to scrutinize the fact that my "new" bike is not as old as you may like to see on this forum, Sorry......

That bike is of the 99-2000 era...Some had aluminum forks and others switched to carbon. The later versions had carbon. It is a classic bike in the sense that the frame is steel.
Steel is on the way of the do-do for local bike shops. Post pic or two. I like those frames. I hate the decals. I think a powder coat would really bring out the shape of the Zona tubing.
I bought one and road it for awhile but it was too small. It is a unique bike for its non standard shaped steel tubing. Most people will assume you are on an aluminum bike.
Raleigh went cheap and switched to aluminum. I think those were some of the better late production bikes. The groupo ought to be a good performer. Can we ask what you paid?
I'm guessing whatever you paid is a damn good price considering most tig welded steel bikes don't feature such unique steel tubing. Its not light but it is very stiff.

During the timeframe that Sorefeet mentioned Raleigh and Univega were brands held by a holding company called Derby. Both the Univegas and the Raleighs came out with lines that featured Columbus steel and Campy components. To cash in on nostalgia the Raleighs used the classic names from the marque's past.
While I agree they aren't all that C&V, both the Univegas and Raleighs were (are) nice bikes. Back in '99 when I was putting together a true C&V ride I bought one of the Univegas to have something to ride daily as I part hunted for my project. That bike was specced with Mirage. If yours has Chorus it was well up the line and would hold its own with modern bikes today.
