Question for Brooks Swallow owners

I have a Thomson Masterpiece Setback Seatpost and recently installed a Brooks Swallow.

The Swallow has the two sides of leather in the saddle strapped together underneath with a metal plate and the plate rests on the front screw of my seatpost, which may eliminate the cushioning in that spot (I am not sure that it is completely eliminated, but it is certainly "limited")

Has any of you had this situation? How did you deal with it? Could I make the screw shorter by cutting it or should I just leave it like it is?
