Tom,

I like the wheels.

I've had no problems whatsoever with a 2000 Suburban and 2003 Yukon (and my mother-in-law reports no problems with a 2004 Yukon Denali). Of course, at those prices, you'd better hope not. Now don't get me started with that 1991 Toyota Forerunner ...

I could get more bikes in my (former -- now my son's) '69 Suburban, but you probably get a lot better gas mileage.

I would have fed that Suburban for years and grinned like an idiot the whole time with what a new Chevy of any sort cost!

Yeah -- after my son "stole" my '69 I started driving a '91 Sub that I got for free. It was my wife's late Granddad's 2nd truck. He picked it up as a "low" mileage backup (187K) to his '88 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup (370K miles). My wife drives the newer Yukon and, thankfully, plans to hang onto it for awhile this time.

Please tell me where you got the steel rims, hubcaps and trim rings.

I'm about ready to go buy one of those.

I've never had a problem I couldn't fix myself with my '92 Chevy pickup.

My wife's '91 Honda Accord was a money pit.

Just to add a bit to the conversation.....

If you are buying a new car, I heartily recommend Costco's auto program. I have bought several that way and not once did I leave the dealer feeling like a urinal.

I have had largely good luck with American cars and trucks, I now have a 06 Silverado truck and an 06 Toyota (US built) Avalon. My previous truck was a 2000 Dodge Quad Cab. 90,000 miles, one relatively minor repair. Not too bad!

American trucks are still pretty solid, it's the cars that are true trash.

I bought my daughter a '98 Buick Regal Gran Sport two years ago. So far, I've had to replace the transmission, the ABS brake module, and the driver's door window motor. It needs an oil pan gasket, but the engine has to be lifted in order to drop the pan because the subframe is in the way. There was a recall on them because the front valve cover can leak oil onto the exhaust manifold and cause a fire. The recall notice I received from GM says not to park the car in the garage until they can correct the problem. We had a fire, but I had a fire extinguisher handy. The dealer fixed the leak in the front, but the rear valve cover still leaks on my new driveway.

Is the HHR a truck or a front wheel drive sedan that is styled to resemble an old truck?

The HHR is a station wagon using the Cobalt drive train. It is not built on a truck frame.

I recommend that you go to the HHR forums:
https://chevyhhr.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=4
and ask more questions of the knowledgable people there.

The HHR is like having a full-size AMT kit to customize.
