Got a Varsity? Lets See it
#105
I have a few Varsities at home right now and will most likely keep one because as a kid I wanted one SO bad, but it cost almost $100 and that was way out of my price range. My first 10 speed was a bottom feeder department store bike, that I still had for 6-7 years. It started to rust when someone mentioned the word 'water' and rolled like a boat anchor. My childhood memory says Schwinn was quality and no modern evidence is going to change that.

I've gotten several Varsitys and Continentals from the curb on trash day, or from police auctions for $5. I always give them the complete once over, several hours of cleaning and reconditioning but usually minimal dollars. I put this one on CL for $50 and could barely answer all the emails. The first guy that showed up bought it, but kept asking me if anything was wrong with it.

This one was given to me recently. It is a 53 model with a Brampton 3 speed hub. The bike looks like it may need more than air and a little oil! I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it.

wow those are old - know what I can't find? a picture of green 10-speed with green fenders - I got mine that way and took the fenders off right away back in the early '70s but haven't seen one like that since then. I've seen some silver fenders but no green ones

I just picked up this '62 Varsity for $34 on E-bay. Probably more than I should have paid, but it has nearly new tires. A little chrome polish, a new seat and basic maintenance and it should make a nice rider.

Of course Alice - I'll need to hop a plane first! Think I can get the Varsity to be carry-on?

I changed nicknames 2 months ago but I've been around a while.
I'm glad you like my name

...and calling you out!
I thought it was a harmless humorous jab, sorry that you took it seriously. I'm not here to make enemies, just have a little fun and learn some...don't take me too seriously, Its never my intention to offend.

got a new bike! yay! 78' copper varsity
spent about 4 hours the other day cleaning it, mostly the rims, chain and derailleurs, i managed to screw up the chain, but ill fix it when i figure out how, and i need to replace the axel bearings and the grip tape. changed up the tires and tubes too, they were stock tubes, from 78' seems a shame to throw them out.

My ultra rare Chrome Varsity is shown in the BF thread link here. Still in the process of finding replacement parts but I'm hoping to do a full restoration at some point.

Nah I like you better.

Nice ride. Believe it or not I'm working on its exact cousin in Green...same baskets, and handle bars too.

I just got my first Varsity a couple of weeks ago at the dump. It's hardly been ridden. I promise to post a picture soon.

The bike pictured was a POS, not a nice ride at all. When the person came to buy it I tried to get them to give less, but they were clueless.
Seems to be a lot of that going around.
Got to go grind the cable guides off my Cinelli for the sleek look, l8r.
