I don't like the down tube decal...but the bike is cool.
|
nifty!
|
Very Cool! What's the price?
I think I'll hang onto my Espree until I see what that puppy is gonna sell for. |
Digging that front fork.
|
WOW! That's really wonderful to see! I hope they sell well. I suspect it is a very nice riding bike. Nothing really fancy, exotic or expensive about the components but they should work very nicely. And it probably shifts far better than ANY bike made before the 1990s.
Perhaps this will bring a whole new generation of riders around to appreciate old school bikes too! This is definitely a bike I would recommend to anyone looking for a new bike or even shopping for a good vintage bike. Something without all the silly gimicks like STI/ERGO shifters and clipless pedals. I'm really impressed. I'm sure it poses no threat of cutting into the competitive racing bike market, but a great bike for a recreational rider, and something a Dad or even Grandpa could feel perfectly comfortable getting onto after not touching a bike for decades. A good choice for the occasional charity Century ride too. Bravo Fuji! :thumb: |
I read somewhere on BikeForums that it's the same bike (at least the frame) as the Kona Kapu:
http://www.konaworld.com/09_kapu_u.cfm Those have been out at least since early 2008, when I saw my first one in a bike shop. (Edit: oops...took a closer look; completely different headset...You can go back to admiring the Fuji.) |

Sharp looking bike with those lugs, and the saddle has rivets to boot. If it is priced reasonably they'll sell loads of them.
|
Where can i find the info on this bike? That would be cool to have sort of a retro-revolution in the biking industry.

Just found this preview of some 2009 models: http://www.countrysidecycling.com/in...i_2009_Preview
The Connoisseur is their lowest priced model shown at only $1,350. I guess these days that price would be a nice deal for the sort of bike I would actually consider buying. Other models others go up to $7,500 for their full Dura-Ace carbon fiber racing model. Never thought I'd see a NEW production bike with a threaded headset and a conventional stem again. |
Vastly superior to that retro-Bianchi I've seen pics of. Now if they could just get the rims right. Somebody needs to start making some narrow, polished, box section aluminum rims again.
|
When I saw that picture, I thought to myself, "I've got to have one". But then I read the specs and I realized that I already have one. It is very close to matching my 1989 Club Fuji, although the paint scheme is more retro.

But wouldn't it be a boring old world if we all liked exactly the same stuf. |
I really like these bikes but here is the question. If you had $1200.00+ to spend on a retro looking bike doe's it make sense to buy one? I could spend half that money & buy a very very nice top of the line REAL retro ride. Why not get the real thing? A 1982 Suntour Superbe Fuji professional would be much cooler than that bike. What is the attraction? It's brand new? You can buy one at the corner shop? Tell me what you think!
|
Lugs, threaded headset and downtube shifters... damn! What was once old is new again!

The same attraction that the latest Ford Mustang, BMW Mini, and the Volkswagen New Beetle have. Many people want that "old school" look but don't want to have to deal with the actual "old school" hassles of worn out parts, etc.
|
I understand the Car analogy as old cars can cost as much or more than a brand new car to make reliable & safe & you still have an old car that is not as safe or reliable as a new car. I daily drive a 1973 Vw convertible but i know i am an oddball. In the case of the retro-like Fuji you are already giving up the Sti-Ergo shifters for down tube shifters. No significant weight savings as they are both lugged steel. What do you gain in terms of safety or reliability? Convenience of "I want it now" is the only positive i can see.
|
Definately diggin them. Although I have to agree, for the price, I would rather have a real retro. For some people, it is exactly what was mentioned. They don't want to hassle with the quirks of a Retro, so they just buy a new one. I'd rather deal with the quirks.
|
Yes, I hope Fuji & others are successful with the retro bikes. I like having the option to buy one of these lugged steel machines over the carbon stuff.
|
What's interesting is that the downtube, seat, and fork decals, and the red/white/blue banding are nearly identical to original fuji finest.
Here are some pics of the originals. Really cool to see these designs being brought back into production. I pretty much like the blue bike, although the fork doesn't do it for me. |
Awesome!!! My four vintage bikes are much nicer than that Fuji!.... 4 x $ 1350 = $5400... I'm RICH!
|
AWESOME. I am really going to try and get one.
No, wait I thought about that for a second. I'm not. |
