Another Sucker is Born
HI,
Found neat old bike on ebay probably paid to much(177.00) but its large enough for me, so I plan to work on it a little to see how it rides. Its an old Centurian Dave Scott model, Wow its got some Color hehe It has WoLbers ((-1for(SP))hehe wheels,, fairly new irc triathalon tires,
I noticed it had some (Look clipless pedals) , now I ve only used those crank brother mountian type pedals so I was wondering if there's a newer style clip that would work with the Look pp166 road pedals beings the company is broke..
how hard is it to replace the handle bar tape I could have a LBS do it but if its pretty easy why.
I like the really thick material thats like leather and gives a bit.
Hope this Road bike works out I ve only got a little money in it so far. I figured it was better than spending 1,000 plus and not really liking the roadie bike.. Yea right ,,, Now maybe I can find another B17 for sale....

A beautiful Dave Scott Ironman, your size for $177, paid too much? How about not enough! IMHO that's a good buy. I'm building one now and can't wait to have it finished. Good luck, hope you hang around C&V.

Sounds like a great deal on a killer ride. What do you have in mind for it? New paint, components? Details good man we need details.

You got a nice deal on the Dave Scott. You will find that many of us have the Centurion DS in either Expert or Master, and I don't think there's a single one of us who doesn't love his or her bike.

I was under the impression that the Look cleat was more or less universal to the various pedals

If a bike fits you, that's worth a hundred bucks. If you dig the colors, that's worth fifty. Now add the retail value of the tires if they are usable and if it comes out to more than $177 you may spend the difference on beer. Or handlebar tape.

FYI - unless the wheels aren't true they're not woblers, they're wolbers.
nice bike, and do not change the colors
add the SN to the SN database thread if you'd like

Thanks For the comments,
hi,
I plan to gently clean the bike,No paint ever, and check the tires and wheels and frame for rust,& rot.
The gears are real dusty in the picture, I will start with wd 40 and then power spray with a little paint thinner mineral oil I find those pump bug sprayers are awsome with a little paint thinner, just the chain and gears, I will proably move the B17 honey from the mountian to it.
See if I can find a deal on 46 shoes with the right clips. one forum guy said the Delta clips work well with the pp166 pedals.
I plan to take it real slow and see if it can handle my clyde body., My LBS is begging to look it over but I want to wipe her down and at least clean the gears up.
I had a old used coventry eagle for over 20 Years and gave it away a couple years ago, DUMB , DUMB, now I ve found bikes again and really can't stand to think about it zero dings and scratches..ARGHHHHHHH
I plan to keep this one and flip flop with the mountian and this bike my guess is this will blow the wheels of the mountian and it will collect dust, but I ride nearly every day so it may be fun to trade out.
DOug

Mine is a stripped frame and fork, and will remain so until I can afford to get it repainted.

Nice bike. Nice price. The bike looks great and just clean 'er up. The Look Keo cleats will not work with those pedals, but that's good news, as the Delta or RC5 or RC6 will work just fine, and many LBS's carry the cleats for under $10.
The saddle is in great shape, and I'd love to trade you something or buy it, for my Ironman.
You can spend $150 more on that that bike and still have a good deal, if you set it up right.
Have fun with it, ride it all you can, and welcome to the crowd.
Lately, our intelligence has been called into question, but we didn't get the memo.

Allen and Robbie:
I would say that what makes this a 'classic' is a well designed frame put together with care from a quality tubeset and the benchmark 86'87 105 group.
The bike needs paint regardless, as it was dumped hard on the left side and scraped on the fork tine, seatstay, and chainstay:

As to trading the bike, I've been looking for a Miyata 912 of the same vintage in the 54/56cm range for some time.....

I'm pretty sure you need look delta cleats... your local look retailer should be able to tell you which you need and sell them to you for a reasonable price. It'll be worth it to have proper road pedals.

It looks more like a "rose" or deep pink if there is such a thing on my screen... and the bar tape (maybe it's that florida sun) in Kurts picture looks more like a blueish purple (which is not even close)... sorry kurt.

Ordered shoes
HI,
I ordered an extra pair of shoes today for the Delta clips, bit different than the crankbrothers I am used to,
The LPS says the Look are a great cleat and I should really like them .
Oh yea and some black synthetic cork wraps.
The price on the delta clips was 24.00 at one shop and 9.00 at another.
It does pay to shop around.

After some close examination, I believe you are correct. At any rate, I like the paint scheme, and I wouldn't touch it!
