Chrome Schwinn Paramount help?

Hello everyone!

I finally got around to pulling my Schwinn out of my closet and I wanted to see if anyone on here had any advice about cleaning it up and/or restoring it.

You should be able to see some photos of it here:

As far as I can tell it's a 1978 Paramount and it's fairly clean but the chrome could use some work. Any advice on how to clean it up would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
T

Should be a really fine bicycle when you get it back on the road.

It's hard to tell the condition of the chrome from the pictures. If there's no rust, I'd clean it with a soft cloth and dish soap, and then wax it. If there is rust, you want to remove it with as little abrasion as possible. There have been entire threads here dedicated to that. Perhaps if you search thread titles for the word "rust" you'll see them.

Nuovo Gran Sport crankset and waterbottle mounts? Eclectic build.

Are you the original owner? If so, did you request the waterbottle braze-ons when ordering it?

I'd sure like to see some close-up photos of the head lugs and the serial number (on the left rear dropout). I was under the impression Schwinn quit building fully chromed Paramounts in the 1972/1973 timeframe. Maybe this was specially ordered by an important customer?

Another good question - slipped my mind entirely.
