I just bought a 1974 Porsche 911s with 20 miles on it. i really only wanted the radio, since i don't actually know how to drive a stick. Does anybody have any idea what I can get for the car without a radio?

Oldpeddaller 10-05-08 11:42 AM

I've got a spare radio, so if you post me your 911 I might be able to recycle it!

Before going the eBay route, why not try offering it on the CR list -- need to give an asking price, but you don't need to sell if you don't like the offers. You might find big fish there.

If you do go eBay, be sure to list it worldwide. They like Masis everywhere.

Who repainted it? A respected name would make a difference to knowledgeable potential collectors.

Good suggestions, Charles. Thank you. I'm told the person who repainted it is a Texan named Brian Pritchett. I'm not familiar with him.

Don't give up hope, Junior. Maybe one day when you grow up you'll learn how to drive. :)

strange that you should mention that, I went to a lecture about black holes last night.

With the dbl plate crown, a rarity on Cali Masi's, I'll bet you could turn the frame for what you paid for the entire bike, with a little patience of course. I wouldn't take less than 1450 for it. Inly possible problem I see is the possibility that that's a powder coat. If it is, then you're back down to $900.

Was the lecture current enough to use Paulson's bailout plan as a comparitive point?:crash:

Thanks very much! I'll check with the seller about the paint.

cyclotoine 10-05-08 09:24 PM

$800 for that parts is a good deal. It's not just a nuovo record group, It's a complete period correct pre-CPSC nuovo record group with all the goodie like cinelli stem and bar (a minimum $100 value) and rims and tires and chain and cassette... etc...
A good buy no matter how you look at it.

Uh oh... the FD isn't period correct! It's a pre-1973!

Most of that could be put together for far less then $700 with some patience, time, and good trades.

It doesn't matter. I won't lose any sleep over the cost of the parts even if I don't sell the frame. What's most important to me is that I'll finally be able to get that Galmozzi back together using period correct parts in really nice condition.

In that condition, insert labour at $10/hr to polish, search, clean, not likely. Prove it, it'll be lost on most of use in the three years it take to do it.

cyclotoine 10-05-08 11:44 PM

Holy crap he has another one for sale!

Let me guess...the back end is in the back seat!! :roflmao2:

A '74 S targa was where I learned about "tail-whip"!

Fortunately, I pulled out of it, so I didn't have to essplain to my best friends girlfriends FATHER, what happened to his car. :innocent:

Another friend wasn't so lucky in his '76 targa.
Bought it for $4K, sold it for $400...but the radio was still usable.

Sorry for the "de-rail", but the "Kid" brought back one heck of an exciting moment in my life by mentioning a '74 S. :p

gridplan 10-17-08 10:11 AM

Just an update...The seller is buying back the frame for my asking price of $1K. The bike itself arrived in immaculate condition. Nicely painted, not powedercoated, and with NOS parts galore. Whoever bought his other Masi, the yellow one, I'm sure got a similarly nice bike.

We call that "trailing throttle oversteer". :) Fun, huh? :D

I hope this was a joke, but actually have a bunch of experience in the used porsche market (one of my family members is a big club member). Depending on condition, I'd say anywhere from 2-20k (although approaching the high end of the figure would be miraculous right now).

Really not sure the purpose of shipping this whole bike back and forth? Seems would have been a lot easier if the seller had just taken off all the parts and sent them along for the $700 or so, saved some shipping and potential frame wear and tear (or even damage) by doing so. The less bike frames are exposed to UPS/FedEx handling, the better, IMHO.

Agreed. I had no idea when I bought it that the seller would have any interest in buying back the frame. I never asked him. In fact, I didn't even mention until I got the bike that the frame was too big and that I intended to put its parts on another project of mine. I wasn't sure how he'd take that after investing so much in his Masi. But he was fine with it and asked me how much I wanted for the frame.
