Another "How Much Is It Worth?" Thread

I bought the following bike recently for its parts. How much can I realistically hope to recoup from selling the frame given that it has been repainted and is large (at least to me) at 60 cms?

Thanks in advance.

3 BILLION dollars!

that said I think the bike is sweet, it's close to my "eddy fit" but I'd probably ride it once a year.

When I told the seller of my plans to keep the parts and sell the frame, he asked me what I wanted for it. So that's why I'm asking.

Sorry, I read it too quickly and thought you had bought it to part out the whole thing and that it was a joke... so what ARE you putting the parts on? I would never buy this frame because I could never hope to aquire all the parts to put it back together again.

No worries. They're destined for a mid-70's Galmozzi whose original parts were replaced by the previous owner. I bought this bike so I could avoid the chore of finding and replacing parts one at a time.

Bikes: Mostly English - predominantly Raleighs

Nothing in the eBay sold item archives? I'd think you could get somewhere in the neighborhood of a grand for it, but I'm just guessing. As much as I appreciate nice Italian bicycles, I don't have any experience buying or selling them.

Nice Raleighs then?

Wish I had something comparable in your size. Speaking of which...what is your frame size?

Thank you. I didn't find much when I searched eBay's completed auctions. I know larger frames like this generally bring less than smaller frames, plus it's been repainted, so I'm a little fuzzy on its value.

As I seem to recall your size is on the small end of the spectrum is it not? How about a early 1980s GIOS professional frame set plus cash? Or a 1982/83 Guerciotti (a pretty one this time)... hehehe.

I appreciate the offer, but I'm really just trying to get a ballpark figure for when I do sell it. But to answer your question, 56-57 cms is what I normally ride.

I really can't do it, but thanks. I've got too many projects going as it is. Man, I didn't know I'd be throwing chum in the water when I started this thread.

Dude, it's a '74 MASI, it doesn't get much better than this for 70s steeze.

I'm hoping you didnt just drop $1700 to get the components.....even if you resold the frame for $1000 thats $700 Franklins for a NR group!!!

You're 24x7? I think you have outbid me on some good stuff. *******!

As for the OP, I would guess, and this only a guess, the low end would be $800, high end would be $1,200. I know that is a big range but ebay can be unpredictable.

Your math is correct. But I'll also be using the wheels, saddle, freewheel, chain, stem and handlebars. I've slowly pieced bikes together in the past. It can be fun, but also a grind. In this case, it's worth the extra cost just to be able to check this project off my list.

Yep, 24x7. You and I have similar taste in parts/bikes. Thanks for the estimate!

Why hasn't anyone answered $3.50? Why does a Masi get special treatment?

(Disclaimer: This post is completely tongue-in-cheek.)

Woke up this morning and can't find my sense of humor -- what's so ugly about your Guerciotti frames, Kurt?

As someone who looks a lot at frames 60 cm and up, I wouldn't worry too much about a frame like that having value limited by seatpost length! If you think it will help, categorize it with eBay using the C/C dimension (but be sure to list both C/C and C/T in description and at least one in title).

Before going the eBay route, why not try offering it on the CR list -- need to give an asking price, but you don't need to sell if you don't like the offers. You might find big fish there.

If you do go eBay, be sure to list it worldwide. They like Masis everywhere.

Who repainted it? A respected name would make a difference to knowledgeable potential collectors.
