Chrome Cinelli on ebay

So pretty it deserves it's own thread. Alex found a nice one, and it is my size, although I am saving my nickels for other things. Lug work puts it in the late 50s with an interesting mix of components.

An eclectic parts set. From the head lugs I would almost point it toward Model B, but elsewhere not.

Puts a Chrome Paramount to shame, and so will the "gavel" price.

A bit too big for me, and now is not the time to spend big cash at my house.

velostuff certainly knows what he's doing, but now seems to be untimely for most people to spend that kind of change.

Would this have originally had decals? If not, when did Cinelli start using downtube decals?

Anyone think that this would have gone for significantly more if it wasn't auctioned during an economic collapse?

Decals are to chrome as vampires are to sunlight. It's also true that many of the bikes that came through Spence Wolf's Cupertino bike shop lack downtube decals - mine included. Apparently, the decals tended to get messed up in transit, so Spence had them shipped without decals with the idea of applying them upon arrival, if customer's so desired. Many did not so desire. Not applicable to that Cinelli in France, in all liklihood, but just though I'd mention it in case folks come across other Cinelli's without "Cinelli" on the downtube.

Isn't the 4k an estimate for painted frames? Shouldn't the chrome finish have bumped it up a notch?

Sure, hence the $51 uptick for full chrome (I was pointing out that the bike was indeed well worth the purchase price). Anyway, there tends to be a lot of variation for bikes at the very top end, making a price guide more of a shot in the dark than it is for, say, 70's Schwinn Paramounts, where prices tend to be a bit more stable. BTW, I paid more for my SC than John did for his, and his is definitely nicer.

I'm still dreaming of the day when I can post an SC in the Catch of the Day thread. Frankly, 4k seemed like a pretty decent price to me. Wouldn't have suprised me if it had fetched more.
