Buying a New Bike is it worth selling my Trek 950?
I'm new to the board and noticed through searching that my bike is considered vintage. Sort of makes me feel really old. I'm going to be getting a Trek 6000. I rented it at Hardwood Hills in Orillia Ontario. The Bike is awesome. I still have my original Trek 950 as well. I love the bike but it just doesn't feel as nimble as the 6000. My question is does it pay to hang onto it as a spare bike or try and sell it. The bike is all original (plus some scratches). I just can't see giving it away and I doubt it's worth much. Any opinions?

This may be a bit of a varied thought on the forums, but here it goes:
What good is a bike that sits and never gets ridden or only gets ridden once or twice a year?
Different types of bikes for different riding purposes is a different matter; i.e. a mountain bike, a tourer, a racing bike, etc.
I am not familiar with the Trek 950 or 6000, but if they are the same style of bike, I would get the 6000 and after half a year or more, if the 950 doesn't get ridden, pass it on to someone who can use a bike.

But if someone asks if they should sell their old bike, they're actually almost at the point where they want to keep an extra bike for many possible reasons. Having sold a couple of bikes I wish I kept, I'd recommend keeping the old bike and I've certainly kept more nice bikes than I've sold and have no regret, actually it's quite satisfying.

). I do have two bikes and am working on a third. I have a Miyata and a '96 Giant mountain bike. I'll never get rid of the Giant, it has great memories for me.

Why not sell the Miyata? You haven't said much about it. You seem to like both the Giant and Trek. And depending on what model Miyata it is, you might fetch a decent return off of it.

There was also an earlier 950 MTB with a lugged 531 frame and a level top tube. I'd want one if I had any desire for a mountain bike.

This is by far more interesting. My Trek 950 is a 1989/1990 Single track Mtn Bike Dark Purple with white accents. The bike is all stock and I do enjoy riding it, so as someone on this thread stated, I'm not really interested in selling just wondering what I would do with 2 bikes. I still love riding the bike, it's easy to maintain. I think it's more wanting the front suspension and lighter overall bike. I just recently picked up a bike for my son full suspension no name brand. He's only 9 and wanted what all his friends wanted so the bike is more look what I got at that age. Mind you I spent the better part of the day re-adjusting the brakes and gears. Nothing seemed to work. Long story short that purchase and my test ride on the 6000 made my inside self say get it. From what I have read from you all I think I'll be keeping the 950 and cleaning it up, it does have good memories attached to it.
I do have one question though. I did try to find my bike on the web but there were no photo's of a dark purple Trek 950. I purchased the bike 1989/1990 time frame it was brand new. How many colour choices were there? Was my colour not popular? I have to admit I thought it was black when I bought it. Anyway thanks again for all the feedback. I look forward to checking this site out more often.
