Old Huffy
Hi,new here.I have been trying to find info on a old Huffy. It's a Huffy Bel Air.Its a tank bike red/white.The guy I bought It from said It was from the late 50's,I also think its around that old.Does anyone know or know where I could get info about this bike?Or any sites strictly for old Huffies or Schwinns?I also have a child's bike from I think around the early 60s,and almost the same paintjob.I can take more/better pictures, answer questions just let me know.thanks ahead of time!

The child's bike is known as a convertable, meaning you can convert it from a girl's bike to a boy's bike by removing the two bolts on the tank and flipping it over and reinstalling the rear bolt in the upper hole in the seat tube.
The short rear fender makes me think late 1960's styling like the Sting-Rays.

Bikes: like 15. my favorite a 1951 schwinn spitfire cruiser. also have a 1959 amf roadmaster, 1962 jch deluxe cruiser among others.
do you know the serial number or can you find it? bb shell, headtube shell or perhaps on the rear drop out, but if you can figure the ser#, it is easy to figure the age of bikes. go back to old roads and look in there ser# data base. huffy goes that the 1st number of their ser# is the last number of the year it was produced. example: hc9836271 would know it was made in a year ending with 9, the 1st number of the ser#. if that were your ser #, id say it was either a 59' or 69' or 79'. look at the accesories your bike has to figure out the decade. yours would definatly be mid 50's to 60's. old roads explains it all. nice bikes.

Ok so i just went a checked it.And wrote them down,i had trouble because it seems the stamps was even when they did it so some of the numbers/letter disappeared.Anyway this is what i got.
"1H751812"
Since i had trouble,The "H" could be an "A",and the "5" could be a "6"
I went to oldroads but couldnt find any numbers to match to,did i overlook them?

I have a few more questions.
With these older bikes, can they have headlights/tailights and still have reflecters?
If a female version of a model has lights, will the male version have lights too?
Ill probably think of more later on.Ha ha ha

hmmm. i will admit that the one throws me off. if we were to use the huffy ser# code, wo/ the 1st 1 and if that were an "h" or at least a letter, id say a 57' with the fact the belair name plate was commercially used in 1951 thru the 50's by GM/Chevrolet. perhaps a 67' but id be very suprised. i know its speculation to a degree and i have a 59' to 62' amf roadmaster cruiser that i cannot quite get to an exact year. i just look at the bike for clues. rear rack and tank but no light would most likely be later 50's to early 60's. i will say that the handlebar stem looks WAY TO HIGH and id be sure that the height limiter line on that stem is hidden in the headtube enough. that could be very dangerous.

I found a couple postings referring to Bel Airs,And i don't agree with whats being said. This is what i found.
"If your bike never had a tank, it is probably a Belair. That model came with white-painted rims and painted fenders. Do your rims have red pinstripes? Somewhere in the years 63-65 they stopped putting the red pinstripes on the white rims."
hes saying that bel airs have no tank, and were painted white.**********?

Oh ha ha yeah i know about the handlebar stem,i dont ride it yet,im currently trying to get things working and i have been straightening the fenders and such, the crank system needs new bearings.I have holes in the fender.Im thinking its missing a headlightlight.I cant think of any other reason for the holes.
