85 trek 510
Been a while since I've been on. I have to many bikes, but I am still looking where ever I go. Came a across this bike in my area - Price is $250. Sounds like it's in pretty good condition. I very found of 531 frames. What do you think - sounds all orginal. MIKE

If you can get the S/N, look it up on www.vintage-trek.com, and see exactly what it is, at least based on available history. Trek did a lot of mixing and matching of tubesets, tube makers, and geometries back in those days. I suspect it's not all 531, but you should get a real good ride from other materials. The x10 geometries are usually sport-tour - sort of racing and sort of touring. Most people love them. All the threadings and hole sizes will be standard English/American - you should have no trouble doing upgrades or parts replacements.
If it's in real good riding condition with no significant corrosion, I'd say $250 is not bad. All original is good - you can use the vintage trek site to verify if it's all original. Some Treks were commonly modified by the selling shop or built at the shop - I'd think a 510 (upper middle of the range) was usually delivered stock. I have a 1984 610, and it's definitely a good bike. Not perfect, but good.

Price range varies by citys , as you know. Here in Kansas City Area, I have sold several older Treks. After they have been gone through I have sold them for about $330. The ones I have had 83 560-very sweet, 77 500 series-, & 93 1400 (I had bought new). Now that said they were pretty much compleately gone thru and were ready to ride. If you do your own wrenching you can pick up a rebuilder cheaper. I just picked up an 85 -410 this weekend that appeares complete, for less than the $225 your seller is asking. I plan on keeping this one, though. I am getting concerned with the riseing vintage market, I won't find another as nice, at a good price.

That price would be at the high end around here, but is probably good for the Seattle market.
If it fits, and is ready to ride, go for it.
