is this guy nuts?
https://cgi.ebay.com/TREK-420-Touring...QQcmdZViewItem is this bike worth that much or is he out of his mind? I paid 10 dollars for the exact bike with beat tires and no rust, mine needs a tuneup and servicing, but still....

If it was clean and straight, I would say his price is OK. Given condition (poor), he should start at $50 or less.
As far as finding a clean one for $10, congratulations. Bike should be worth $150 to $200 in ready to ride clean condition.

There is one of those saddles on eBay currently. $65 BIN. https://cgi.ebay.com/NIB-Selle-San-Ma...QQcmdZViewItem
I figure $50 tops for the bike and $65 for the saddle means $100 for that bike as is. Tops.
If you really have to have that saddle. I don't.

In my area you couldn't sell that bike for near that money without at least cleaning it up.

Yes, he put in the first bid and then a second, probably because he wanted to make sure that he was not out bid later.

I had a shorter frame 48cm, 420, nicer condition than the listing, newer with index shifting, sold in the Raleigh area for $150 in about 1 hour, my email was lined up with buyers. Should have asked $200 or $250, but a very nice hard core roadie got it who appreciates the ride that old steel framed bike provides, that's worth a lot to me.
I think the ebay listing is correct, but the seller should have cleaned up the bike. His price is more in line than the extremely lucky Skywriter who got one for $10.
Those old steel Trek bikes are sought after.

This just proves to me what I steal I got when I picked up an 89 Trek 660 frame and fork for $50.
