I'd be in favor of that, since nothing of interest is excluded. A really good notion.

The curb and dumpster finds was my favorite thread, I'm glad it will be resurrected in some shape or form

But, beyond that, what is the problem with many stickies? I could see if you have to click to the next page to see new threads, but that is not the case. There are only two stickies that I like to read, but the other stickies don't bother me. I see if anything new is in the two I like. If there are, I middle click on them, then proceed through the rest of the forum to see if there is anything else I might be interested in.

Perhaps it's been mentioned, but I'd put in a vote for somehow floating the mfg or serial # database threads to the top. Each has tons of great info if you're trying to pin down what you have.

Consider only one sticky that is a "Read this first - FAQ". It would contain links to all the popular threads (old stickies).
#35
Hmmm.... we still have nine of them. How many did we start with?

I wish others agreed with a one sticky vision.
Not to mention the new subforum could optionally be a single thread.
A subforum takes up lots of screen space.

1) we currently have 9 this one will drop so really 8 and the Cheapo Buildoff thread will eventually drop too when all is said and done there, we had 13-14 or so.
2) The valuations thread idea was purposed, but decided that the subforum was a much better solution. Far too easy to get confused / mixed up on who's replying to what request. Especially if the mods start merging threads started into the stickied one. People aren't going to browse through pages of requests/answers looking for a post that they have some knowledge / input on.

That is, should it or any other existing sticky also be its own subforum?

catch vs CL
There's a big difference between a bike advertised on CL and the bike already purchased and hence available for comments, description, and bragging rights. One is for the shopper and one is for the person who wants to be educated as to merits, faults, and opportunities of bargain bike buys. I favor splitting these two ideas into separate stickies. I applaud the effort and thought going into the reorganization but will definately be less happy with having to read past CL links (poorly described by the sellers) to get to the great discourses on what I just bought for a few or not so few bucks and what I found once I bought it. Cheers to all. tom

I will reiterate my objection to combining Catch and eBay/CL finds; I simply find it confusing, and as a result, while I've peeked once or twice, I find it unappealing to keep up with anymore. I would rather that they were separated and "unstuck" quite frankly -- even though I realize that fewer people would post to them that way, since they're not on top, and need to be sought. IMO, they are the two most important stickies, and each deserves separate billing.
I don't understand why my two favorites have to be combined, when Numbskulls survives solo; a sticky devoted to derision hardly seems worth the space it takes to display it. And Frame Painters is a sticky that's very seldom posted to; why can't it be cut loose, and listed in an Old Stickies thread?

If you can do what BlankCrows suggests VVVVV that would be ideal.

Mods, if you unsticky some of the sticky threads can you put some direct links to them up near that Subforum heading at the top of the C&V page? Call it a C&V Favorites Area or something. Vertical burns up space we know, but a horizontal line or two of a handful of links (or most of them) would allow for easy access to those popular threads without chewing up too much space.
The Selling a Bike or Components disclaimer thread should be a sticky, and temporary stuff like the Build Contest thread are good use of stickies.
Pay It Forward is a noble thread, but it has only 118 posts in almost a year, and it's a sticky.
Oh, and I'm also not a fan of the COTD and Ebay/CL merge.

I agree. I checked the eBay/Craigslist thread every time I logged on, but now I have only read it once, because it was late at night and I was bored. I feel I have lost one of my favorite parts of BikeForums.

Ok, we hear that some of you are displeased with the changes. I've got a couple of solutions, I'm going to talk things over with Marty, EH, etc.

Someone should correct the spelling of (I assume) "inquiries" in the name of the new subforum. Inquires is a verb, not a noun.

I really dislike the 'catch of the day' thread being mixed in with the ebay/cl listing thread. It clutters both of them up.
