Stickies! (again...)

There are two POLL threads going on now. They will close in 2 days. If there is a strong vote one way or another I may act upon the decision before then. I will then reorganize our stickies closer to the original setup with the following:

1) Catch of the Day (possible combine with Saved from the Dump thread - poll ongoing)
2) Ebay / Craigslist finds
3a) ISO / WTB thread (poll ongoing to keep combined) - poll ongoing!
3b) For-Trade thread (poll ongoing to keep combined)
4) Pay it Forward (I feel this should be left stand-alone so no changes, agreed?)
5) Numbskull posters (this may be due for a fresh start)
6) Frame Painters (this is a good resource, leaving stickied for now, agreed?)
7) C&V links and resources thread (may be due for a cleaning, but will remain stickied)
8) Selling Bikes / Parts warning thread. (leaving in place)
9) Your Vintage Rides thread (your sweet vintage bikes)
10) Where'd you ride today? thread.

Ok, but can you please make the Ebay/Craigslist Finds title a little more clear that it is items found that others might want? I still like "Hell, I don't want it, but you might". Or maybe something more like "Ebay & Craigslist Items You Might Want". But, I prefer the former.

It just seems a lot of people confuse that thread with the "Catch of the Day" thread.

an attempt to such ends can be made.

Since you asked...my votes:

4) Pay it Forward (I feel this should be left stand-alone so no changes, agreed?) Dump it.
5) Numbskull posters (this may be due for a fresh start) Dump it
6) Frame Painters (this is a good resource, leaving stickied for now, agreed?) Dump it
7) C&V links and resources thread (may be due for a cleaning, but will remain stickied) add painters to this
8) Selling Bikes / Parts warning thread. (leaving in place) dump it
9) Your Vintage Rides thread (your sweet vintage bikes) dump it
10) Where'd you ride today? thread.[/quote] dump it

Make all these threads sink or swim on their own. This is all too much order and design being imposed in the bike shop - the tools should be strewn around with half-assembled bikes sitting in on the workbench and in the stand. Really, it's borderline obsession. If a thread is that interesting, it will be there tomorrow. No one - I mean absolutely no one - is gonna read forty pages of an old thread. Why sticky it and encourage it to grow?

A sticky that contained links to the unstuck threads would be nice.

This would make it easy to find the "old" stickies.

If this were a "READ THIS FIRST" sticky, it could also contain rules and such.

Why are there so many stickies? Most browsers support bookmarks.

We have both of those stickies. Why so many, by popular demand.

Exactly. I bet most people never pipe up about it, so only the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Here's a good indicator though - look at the other forums. The vast majority have three or less stickies. A few have five. Only three, including this one, have more, out of 29 forums.

I don't mean to open up old discussions, and I really don't care that much except it is annoying to have to hit the space bar everytime I come here or refresh. But I just can't help putting it out there. I don't expect the mods to come around, but I would like them to go ahead and do something about what everyone seems to agree with - that there are too many stickies, even if they can't agree which stickies should be unstuck. If everyone can't agree which get canned, then can 'em all, I say! Have a limit - say 6 - and unstick the ones with the least amount of posts over the past 6 months. Make no editorial decisions, or votes - just go by posts.

Just in case I communicated poorly, I was recommending as few stickies as possible. Namely, a single sticky with the fourm guidelines (eg. a FAQ) and pointers to popular threads (the existing stickies, which would all be unstuck and live as normal threads). There would be no other stickies.

If this recommendation is not appreciated, that is acceptable, but if it was misunderstood, I wanted to make it clear.

Btw, typing "Ctril-D" in either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox will create a "Favorite" or "Bookmark" of the current page.

So it looks we're still going to have about the same number of stickies. Can they be organized like the Regional Discussions links on the main BF page?

I don't think that's possible (the regional discussion links are subforum folders, not stickies), but I'll ask what is and what isn't possible.

Thank you all for weighing in. I think I have a pretty good idea of what is going to work best for the most of us, without causing too many disgruntled individuals.
