My wife said she needed to quiet time at home to focus on some paperwork she had been meaning to get to. She said, “go for a ride” so I wouldn’t be a distraction to her. Well, OK honey :-)
So on Monday I took that opportunity to do a gravel century which actually begins from my home.

It made for a nice bookend. I retraced my route back home making it a 125 mile day.

BTW - it looks like you have the same Schwinn Traveler my daughter rides. I got this bike new when I was a teenager, we converted it to a SS with flatbars to make it her campus bike. 6 years later, she lives car-free and this is still her only bike. I wish I had a better picture.

Damn, you're riding with a full keg on the rack?!? What rack is on that bike to handle the weight?

It is actually a Le Tour III, although looking at the 1978 Catalog, it is hard to see much of a difference between the two. I love it, it fits me perfectly, and despite being heavier than my other bikes by a few pounds and still having steel wheels, gets ridden the most.

It's hard to beat a bike that's nearly 40 years old and still reliable. I've offered to buy my daughter a new bike, she declines every time; she will just asks for a small upgrade to it. This month, I'm going to pay the LBS to rebuild her BB... I believe it's original; I don't recall every rebuilding/replacing it.

I'm not a competitive cyclist, I ride for fun and fitness, and there is absolutely nothing that my old bikes can't do that a new one can. Plus, I don't have the cash or space for a classic car, so this gives me something to tinker with, keep in shape, and show off! I tend to strike up a lot of conversations at the charity rides on my old bikes, anything from wild bemusement that I would ride such a thing to people reminiscing about years gone by when they had one just like it!

I took my Fuji Ace out on a 93 mile ride up through Westchester and into Putnam County then back to the City. The weather was gorgeous.

Yesterday seven Velosophical Society riders started on our Tuesday Adelaide outing. Three of us are Eroica California volunteers. We're very partial to back road rolling wooded hills, vineyards, grain fields and grazing land, portion of the Erioca. Two of us abbreviated the route. The rest continued to a popular vineyard for a break before Chimney Rock Rd.Cypress Mountain Rd. and Klau Mine Rd. We had a break; refilled water bottles at another fine vineyard before the last third of our excursion. Temperatures were in the 90's. No one risked running low on water. We covered 36+ miles, 2667' elevation in four hours. Then gathered at Dark Nectar for nourishment and conversation. All's well.

Riding along the South end of the Renton Airport I spotted the Douglas World Cruiser parked out side a hangar! This thing is normally on Display at the Museum of Flight at Seattle field.. guess the flew it here? Pretty impressive.

Still, I was able to do two of my favorites there: Burma Road is like a bungy jump on a bicycle

The smell of ripe blackberries were a concern as well thinking this was probably an ideal time for the bears to be out grazing. I saw scat but no bears thankfully. Nice day on the bike!

I rode on the Capital Trail for the first time in months. This was my first day in a month wearing a left shoe instead of an Aircast for my broken foot. Only rode seven miles out from Four Mile Creek and then back but it felt great.

I rode a simple 30-mile route following 27-year old and 24-year old female triathletes. It was cloudy and I had the only taillights, so I volunteered to trail. When cars honked, I didn't know if they were expressing solidarity with the ladies or saying "you go, old man!" When they asked which hill I wanted to climb back to my house, I asked "there are hills?"
