One of last week’s rides was a ceremonial birthday excursion. I wound up hitting my mark, plus a fair bit after. A nice, wet adventure.

First Day of TdF
Needed a French bike to celebrate the start of The Tour. So I went and bought one today. Made it rideable (Swapped wheels, adjusted brakes and derailleurs) and did a 10 miler around the neighborhood

I am finally posting a ride on the day I rode it! Usual route of 22 miles. Includes the MUP along the Rappahannock. Oh its 4th of July weekend!
Usually take the Pin but The Red and White works for the weekend. I know, same old setting but this is summer!
The ride would not be appropriate without a visit to the grave of George Washingtons mother, the first project of the Daughters of the Revolution (DAR).
No, it is not a Kaiser helmet!
Also passed by Kenmore Estate, that of Mr Lewis who used all his money to help George finance the war.

15 mile ride with Le Tour De Ham this morning, good group ride with some interesting sights and included crossing an apparently little-used pedestrian bridge over the interstate.

Easy pace ride this morning in downtown Birmingham with a friend and his daughter. It was her first time on a bike in 9 years. 5 1/2 miles this time around.

I didn't plan for it to be, but today's ride turned out to feature art and animals. First up was beer delivery dray horse Jacob, who was the only animal I planned to see, as he's located near Tower bridge where I crossed the river from south to north.
I then weaved up through the city district but nothing caught my eye amongst the glass and steel structures, turned off for a brief stint along the Regents Canal and was greeted by something a little different, sharks! Hmmm a save the Hackney sharks installation and what looks a squash on a barge. So what's going on here then?
I was non the wiser at the time, but since getting back and asking the internet, it seems the shark was part of an award winning group of singing sharks that were originally placed in nearby Hoxton, but the local Council objected and so they've been given temporary shelter here while the legal wrangling continues. Nearby I find a new pin and thread art work, I've seen a number of these dotted across London over recent months, and they are by Perspicere. Impressive the images you can create from straight lines of thread wound around pins, I bet they are really good with an etch-a-sketch.
I was utterly hopeless with an Etch-a-sketch, never managing anything more complex than a two dimensional brick. Which is a seamless segue into my next artwork discovery, one by the brilliant Brickflats. I saw this artist featured in a recent National newspaper and I think these are rather excellent. The artist finds a missing brick in a wall, and puts a brick sized artwork into the space highlighting London expensive and cramped living conditions. I came across one today, here it is.....

I cycle back through business district on my home, pausing only briefly to snap this rather menacing looking cat in a space suit,
I knew about Laika the first dog in space, and know they'd sent monkeys into orbit too, but that got me wondering if any cats had been sent to space. Once home I discover that yes, cats have been into orbit. Felicette a French stray is the only cat to have survived a trip to space back in 1963. I was pleased to hear it was not a one way trip for the kitty, but that pleasure was short lived as I immediately discover that a few months after her trip she was euthanized so the scientific team could examine her brain, harsh!
It was nice to hear though Felicette has not been forgotten, a kickstart campaign was started to fund a bronze artwork in the intrepid kitty's honour and it now stands at the International Space University in Strasbourg, France. Full story here: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart...ial-180974062/
I only popped out for a short ride with the mission to get some milk on the way home, but saw horses, sharks, various artworks and ended up falling down a rabbit hole reading about cats in space. It never ceases to amaze me where you can end up after a days cycling..

First time out in about three weeks and it was hot so I only did 13 miles. I know, pretty wimpy and lazy. Maybe a flat At 8 Miles was my punishment. I did get a picture down the road of a display a veteran sets up to honor our military for the Fourth of July. My blue bike with red tires blends in nicely.

I took the Stars and Stripes Paletti out for what I think might be 17.76 miles (only measures to tenths) and stopped by for a visit with TJ at the UVA Rotunda. I also pieced together a pretty spiffy red, white and blue kit today but thought I’d spare everyone the selfie.
Edit: downloaded and it was 17.77 miles. Missed it by that much!

I seem to gravitate toward riding at White Rock Lake lately. It's a beautiful area.

Just got some RH Rat Trap Pass tires for my old Stumpjumper Classic and took it out for a good climb. Seemed like a slug compared to our Cino bikes (posted on the previous page) but turns out, it wasn’t really much slower. I might bring it out for one of the Cino days if I can sneak it past Dave.

Sometimes I do carry other than water like tea and occassionally coffee. It would need to be iced coffee in this Dallas, TX heat.
I guess they would serve for keeping drinks hot for a time as well like a thermos.

Today was actually the 3rd day out rocking the Red, White and Blue.
The CAAD8 was Saturday's ride for 27 miles.
Sunday was another 27 miles on the Y-Foil
The PDG Paramount got the honor's today.
Rocked this same kit each of the three rides. Needless to say it saw a lot of washes this weekend, LOL!
Clear and beautiful today

Fresh cut hay smells so good to this ol' farmboy
Waterskiing on Pineview
Not the typical holiday on the lake for some reason. Normally there'd be a whole lot of boats out there.
Closing in on the house.
The CAAD8 was Saturday's ride for 27 miles.
Sunday was another 27 miles on the Y-Foil

Back out again this morning on the final "patriotic" bike. The 37 year old Raleigh Team USA. Ran it for 40 miles to include dirt roads over in the drier area of the valley. Lot's of fun.
Still have it set up in the gravel configuration
About the roughest stuff I was on.
Heading into the one little town
Lush oasis in this dry part of the valley
Wildlife management area where elk hang out in the winter.
No goatheads today, that is always a plus!
Freshly graded, oh yeah!
Water levels are dropping fast
