Prowler, wouldn’t that skill be called a ‘Trek stand’ in your case?

The summit, phew, that was really hard work.
My vintage carbon lugged Look 585 I built up for the trip has not missed a beat, no mechanicals or punctures the whole holiday.
That said the bike has helped haul my 90kg over some of the highest roads in Europe and has been confidence inspiring on the fast twisty descents. Most cyclists I've seen have much newer bikes than me, I've not seen a single vintage steel bike on this whole trip which is a surprise considering Italy's cycling heritage. Nearly every bike I've seen has disc brakes, but even with my rim brakes I've not been held back. I've been overtaken by plenty of lighter climber types on the ascents, but I've not been overtaken by a single cyclist on a descent for 2 weeks, and I've flown past most of the motor vehicles going down too,
It's been an absolute dream holiday, everything I dreamed of and more, and if you ever get the chance to come and ride a bike here do it, its amazing.

Michelle Pfeiffer in that skin tight Catwoman costume from 1992's Batman Returns, is a memory teenage boys like me of the era will have burned into our brains for eternity.
A new sign has appeared on the lawn outside Tate Modern.
Past some rickety old buildings on Fleet Street on way east.
Back through Covent Garden and the lack of sunshine is made up for the bright colors on the walls, and the call to unleash our creativity.
And a final street of color under the darkening skies,
...thunderstorms were a coming, so the ride was cut short and I dashed home, making it back 10 mins before the rain

Today's plan was to ride up Snowbasin while taking a lot of pictures. But.....she threw a whole lot of new stuff at my quads yesterday in PT and they didn't feel that hot today. So instead I headed for the north end of the Valley where I could still do some climbing but none all that long. Legs actually felt fine so I could have gone up the MT. Anyway, here's a selection from this morning's ride. It was 46 degrees when I woke up around 5 AM and still just getting into the 60's when I headed out.
I was on the ol' Trek 5200 today and didn't take a single picture of it. It clunks and bangs over the rough roads the whole ride. I really need to outfit one of my good steel rides with a Triple setup and move this one on. It's a really fast bike but just doesn't tickle my fancy.

My '93 Diamond Back Sorrento has been on indoor trainer duty for the past several months. Decided to get it outside and enjoy some rail trail riding on it today. Back to a familiar haunt, Black Creek Park in Fultondale, AL. I was planning to ride 2 laps, but developed an issue with my right pedal. Maybe next time!
Summertime vegetation is making it harder to see the old trestle over Carson Rd.
The rail trail is part of the Five Mile Creek Greenway.
Barricade at Newfound Creek to keep you from plummeting down the steep embankment where a trestle used to be.

It feels great to be back home. I finally got out for a decently long ride yesterday and rode up to the pass for a beer.
I was thinking yesterday as I was riding about all that I had seen in the past two months and realize that where I live is pretty darn nice too.

Another day off, another bike under me out on the roads. Today was the beautiful 41 year old Krapf bike I built up this past winter. Got in some new handbuilt wheels for it yesterday from Peter Chisholm and wanted to see how this one felt on my base route. I was also planning to put on a couple of full on sprints to test the quads and this bike. But....two apple turnovers and 3 cups of coffee do not make good fuel for a morning ride it appears...dead legs today. Anyway, impressions of the bike are a bit conflicting. Seemed stiff when put a lot of power into it as it really did take off. It also scooted right up some of the rolling hills hills when I stood up an attacked them. But then on some wallowing road surfaces it felt pretty flexy under me sort of like the old Bob Jackson did. On the roughest sections of the route the bike felt just fine, stable and comfortable. The opposite of the Olmo a few days ago which banged it's way over this rough section, clearly letting me know how stiff it was. Oh and the Krapf is soooooo quiet. Yesterday the stinkin' Trek 5200 clunked it's way over every crack in the road, at time sound like it was going to just fall apart under me. This Krapf was so silent on the ride, especially the drivetrain. The loudest noise sometimes was just that crunching sound of small gravel on pavement under the tires. And this bike is so freaking beautiful and the new wheels were positively glistening in the sunlight.
Over 27 miles in total comfort. The few modern compromises for comfort pay off on the road.
By coincidence, meeting family here for dinner tonight
The fork on this one is one sexy beast.
Snowbasin, wish I could still get up that mountain on my feet. It'd be nice to go play in the snow.
In my younger days I used to run this ridgeline after work. About a 14 mile round trip. Couldn't even hike it now days, LOL!
Water looks so nice
This was taken from the bike path
So full right now! A couple of Grebes out there this morning.
Wonder what the history of this is...

54 hot, gritty miles on Skyline drive with these two hooligans. I rode the 84 Raleigh Gran Tour, they were on more modern conveyances.
The Park Service was in the process of repaving about ten miles of the north end. We had the pleasure of climbing on fresh, wet chip seal for the steepest (and longest) climbs.
Pretty place though, even when viewed through sweaty eyes.

13 weeks since the knee replacement and I did make it up the Snowbasin climb. I really wasn't sure if I could yet. Basically it's about an 8 mile uphill with over 2000 ft of climbing and a max grade right at 10%. Average grade is probably around 6% or so. I took the Trek 5200 since it's got the lowest gearing of all my road bikes right now. And I needed to use all of it. Normally I have a gear or two in reserve as a "bailout" gear but not today. I was doubting myself up to the first summit today, didn't think I was going to make it. Once I got there I thought about turning around but decided to press on. Of course it helped that the best scenery was in front of my calling my name. How could I resist?
At the first summit
Descending down to the road you see here for the final climb to the top
Not one of my favorite bikes but I got it for the triple and sure needed it today.
Wheeler Canyon Area
There's a rough, rocky dirt road through this canyon that brings you back out in the valley where I live.
I love this view!
Pretty much to the top now. This meadow is right below the lodge area
Entrance to the lodge. I had about 1 more mile of climbing to do here before a long fast descent back off the mountain
Back down in the valley yet still miles from the house. That's the mountain I had just ridden up.
A rare selfie up near the top. Does the pain show? LOL!!!
The descent down didn't seem to be as fast as normal, felt like headwinds holding me back. But the Garmin said I hit 53.8 mph somewhere so that's real close to my max speed ever on this descent.

60 miles today with temperatures in the low 80's (hot, for Maine), but saved by lots of shade on the way out. Visited Whitefield for my first time, and definitely found it to be woody and off the beaten path. I'll come back to this area in the future and try to see a little bit more of it. https://www.mapmyride.com/routes/vie...ite/5622397066
9-sp MTB derailleur hiding back there.
House from 1700's. Solid granite stoop
Valiantly fending-off aggressive deer fly
Simple route: Rt 1N to 218N
Lots of woods up this way!
Turn-around point
About noon, still some shade
On the high road
Interesting cabin.

That is a "slim howler whistle". I got it in a first-aid kit. I figured it was lighter than a bell, but I'm going to take it off, because it seems to startle some people.

Nice weather today about 70 with a light breeze. Took the Marin on a short ride on county road 14 and road around some on the wetland trails in Pike forest.
The trails were pretty washed out and rough in places.
With the really wet Spring and current warm weather there's a lot of wild flowers and plants that we don't see every year.

Just 30 miles combined over the last 2 days.
Heat this time of year in the Dallas area is a factor.
Early starts sure help.
Both days I rode my 45 YO Peugeot UO10 650b conversion. (650bx42 tires)
It's a plush super comfortable ride.
I really like how this one came together.
Current thinking is it's a keeper.

Cooperryder: That is a really cool and interesting bike. The color and condition are great. A couple questions: Which hubs did you build those Velocity Dyads onto, and how much air pressure do you run the Panaracers at? That chrome on the front forks really finishes off the display.

Been tweaking my position a bit and went to a shorter stem (140 > 130). Did 18 miles by the lake to fine tune things.

Battled through the usual excuses the day after a five-hour plus excursion to squeeze 60km in ahead of the rain tonight. Minor refinements to the 05/06 Alberto Masi including Simples Retrofriction shifters, Turbomatic 2 saddle and a Wheels Manufacturing CrMo axle hidden inside the old Record rear hub for good measure.

Yesterday was a 50 mile ride cut short to just 40 'cause the grandkids were coming over. The Iron Lung bike race was going on so lots of folks over in Huntsville. I just cruised around on the Krapf again. Not really riding for speed or effort yesterday and once again the Krapf surprised me with it's overall comfort. I really thought this was going to be a hot rod, stiff ride with the tight rear end and 23mm tires. Nice that I can also just cruise around on it. Only grabbed one picture while out and it was of the bike. I do have to plan my route a bit on this one since I can only carry one bottle on it as of now. Need to have a place to refill on the ride because I hate carrying bottles in my jersey pockets and don't want to jerry-rig another cage on this one.
Running tires at 85/95 since I've put on so much weight the past two years with these dodgy knees.
It's pretty funny how I watched this frame for over 4 years on Ebay before buying it. One of the things that kept holding me back was that I just didn't like how it looked. Now that I have it built up I think it's one of my most beautiful bikes, weird how that works out.
