Farthest uptown this downtown boy has ever ridden. I know, not very impressive :)

Lovely pics of spring, well it's spring somewhere at least.

A few pics from the ride today, which included a constant 15-20 south wind. The route was into the wind for the most part early, so I was able to enjoy some 25+ mph mile splits on the relatively fresh pavement between Prescott and Hudson. 60 miles all in, slowly working up the endurance.

They must have been testing the bridge across the St Croix, because no boats went through.

What goes down,

Must go up.

We took the tandem out into 25mph winds today, managed 38.45 miles.

A stop at Heart Pond, Chelmsford, very windy with some snow still showing on the far bank:

Did you jump it?

I got a nice ride in today of 54 miles on the Moto GR. 3000' elevation gain. I went through Scituate and Foster RI, then rode an old road that straddles the state line with Killingly CT before heading back east. Temp was warm at 60 and sunny but there was a pretty strong head wind going out. I was sailing coming home!

Most of the ride was spent dodging potholes, so I didn't take a ton of pics. Towards the end I did stop for a few...

Nota bene the red bartape. I finally got around to wrapping and applying the shellac this week.

I cross and recross this reservoir frequently on my rides west. The shifting winds were brutal today. Still, it was a great day to get out for a ride.

Wooo Llamas  I cant match the great colour shots posted recently which is kinda the point of this pic. In a few weeks this pic will be nice and green and thats what we get when winter comes around, beautiful green countryside and nice riding temps.

Another pic of the new growth after bushfires. Harder to see in a photo.

Spotted this old kiln in the bush with a huge fern growing inside.

Next to Kangaroo Creek Dam. On the other side are tracks to Fox Creek mtb park where I'll be riding soon when it's muddy.

Nice day here today (finally!), heading out a bit later. Pictures to follow. Haven't decided which bike to take yet, a couple need minor work. One needs the bars wrapped after a headset change and one needs tuning after the wheels were rebuilt. I may spend some time getting one of them ready and take it out.

otg 04-12-15 03:47 PM

I took the Super Sport out after wrapping the bars and giving it a spring look over. Weather was perfect today in CT, I rode in shorts and a tee shirt. I got in a little over 29 miles, not too bad for only my third time out this spring. I stopped at a small picnic area in Sterling CT, but didn't stay long. There was one family grilling, one guy taking a break on a motorcycle ride, and three older woman walking their dogs. First time their has ever been anyone else in that spot when I stop by, I guess a long winter will do that.

Got in 45 miles today. Found an old graveyard in the middle of nowhere (well, somewhere but nowhere to me) dodged a lot of potholes and enjoyed the heck out of the 60's and sunny!

Yet more beautiful pics! Stuck inside cleaning basement and office all weekend. :(

Ed. 04-12-15 04:00 PM

Didn't go far, and that was good as I had to walk all the way back (well but for a bit of a downhill, I coasted that.) I'd failed to tighten the outer two sprockets on the freewheel and, for reasons known only to them, they unscrewed and jammed against the drop out. The outermost one came off, but the second needed persuasion, of which I had none at that point. A gent on a STEEL Miyata, and the woman who lived in the near-by house both offered to help me out.

Vonruden 04-12-15 04:45 PM

Nice rider Fender1, very nice pics.

I got out and Enjoyed the Weigle today, easily the nicest day of the year in New Jersey. I was smiling ear to ear while riding this beauty.

Bummer.

We did another tandem ride today, didn't expect to do many miles and ended up at 24. With nice temperatures and much less wind our average speed was about 1.5mph higher today than yesterday. However we also had a problem. With maybe 7 or 8 miles to go the pedals developed a strange click-ish sort of thump. I thought, what the heck? The frame showed no cracks. Did we break a BB bearing? But both BBs seemed fine. Well, nothing to do but ride back to the car. Shifted the front and it didn't change. We each took turns unloading our pedals and it didn't change. Hmm. Shifted the rear and lo! the thumping stopped. Shifted back to the 3rd cog and it came back. When we got home I checked it out. Here's what I found. The middle cog had transformed itself from a 21 to a 19:

http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/Ri...ToNineteen.jpg

The good news is that after 6000 miles the FW came off the hub fairly easily! Can you spot both problems here:

http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/Ri...woproblems.jpg

Calling Pastor Bob! Come in, Pastor Bob...

I need a 21 and a 32.

mountaindave 04-12-15 06:17 PM

Yikes!!

Digression: I have tried to disassemble freewheels (Atom, Maillard, Shimano, etc) with chainwhips, but can't seem to get the first cog loose - am I missing something? Do they not assemble like the old Uniglide cassettes with the first cog being a threaded and thus a locking cog?

After the 60 miler yesterday chasing Rudi, I thought a nice easy 26 trail miles was the ticket. Second day this year cycling in shorts and t-shirt (third day tomorrow) I parked the car in Schwenksville and rode the lower half of the Perkiomen Trail. The PT is mostly on an old rail bed that started operation in the early 1800s - a significant part of our history around here. The trains are long gone so the forest has returned and it's a very pleasant trip. Perfect weather again today.

I'm lucky the PT is so easy for me to get to.

36 miles today. Weather is nice in SE New England! Sunny, 65 degrees and light wind.

@Vonruden you know I love that bike but you gotta re-route those brake cables! especially the front.

+100 (I've been trying to think of a nice way to say it, this will have to do!)

I was along that section of trail Sunday morning, as I am most weekend mornings. At 6am it was only 38 degrees, so no shorts for me. I don't know how far up you go, but if you cross over route 29 there are some nice trails in Green Lane Park that were recently added. I road the Bridgestone 400 because it deserved to get out after a long winter on the trainer.

We still have a bit a snow left on Spring Mountain(hill). I hope the buzzards were not circling for me, because I am so out of shape.

I must have 20 pictures of these guys.
