OK, now I'm hungry. Do you live right on the beach, or is that where the donut shop is? Great midwinter pics. Ditto @Roger M and @northbend. Our PNW weather has been wet but quite rideable lately. I need to try and get out more. I commuted down to work for the first time this year (not raining for once!) Hope that holds until 5:30 tonight! |
Not quite spring here in New England, but pretty close! If I remember correctly, there was about 7 feet of snow on the ground this time last year. I took my Trek 660 out for a nice pleasant ride this morning, maybe 30 miles or so. Felt great after a couple of weeks off.

Believe it or not, I FINALLY was able to get out my C&V '85 Fuji Del Rey and go for a nice 13 mile bike ride down to the James River and back. It felt great to get back on the bike after the cold winter months and (yes, even for Virginia...) snow and ice!
This is looking upstream at the James River in Richmond, Virginia, over the Huguenot Bridge. I remember the rules on this forum, LOL.. I turn the old Fuji around so you all can see the Suntour drive train. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...psjw2koidw.jpg This is at the Z-Dam along the James River, and the river is really up and looking a little wild. Normally it just flows gently over the funky looking steel barrier (shaped like a Z across the river). http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...psojzffhf7.jpg 13 miles in 49:25 for a 15.8 mph (avg) pace. Nice day and a beautiful 65° outside! :) |

We took the tandem out today. (60 degrees in February in Massachusetts?) When we returned the odometer said 45.00 so I think we can call it 45 miles. Looks like a lot of places are nice and warm this weekend. For us that's mid 30's, so I'll take it. Took another cityish ride today since my latest exploits on the county roads with the road bike are leading to lots of flats (another one on a county road today). Just managed the distance to complete my February metric century today.
A couple blurry lens photos from my Snickers bar stop. http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...5&d=1456010945 http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...4&d=1456010943 |

My cousins grew up in Woodlake, we lived in Madera. My very first bike trip was across the valley to my cousins, the next day up to my grandmother's in Three Rivers. Nice riding up in the foothills.

Took the Green Machine out to search for and ride in Forest Park. We found it. we rode it, then we went home.

Yeah I was there around 11:30. Hard to believe we've never crossed paths during our rides.
I ride with a group I meet at Grand Performance or sometimes I just take off with my wife. She's a very strong rider. I really think we should set up a weekly time for any c&vers that might like to go for a little adventure. A nice low stress ride is always fun. :) |
It was like -2 F here last weekend. 55 today. Here's what the strip of shoreline along I-95 in New Haven looks like. Rode out with my 9 year old on his "New" C&V purple Fuji Nevada, I on my Trek 620 gravel/ rain machine.

Small world! Uncle Bob and Aunt Diane Walters, and their 6 kids, Valinda, Janice, Julie, Becky, Ted, and Jody - we'd see them every few months, lots of good memories. We'd pile up in their station wagon and go to Three Rivers to visit our grandparents, sometimes up to Slicky's swimming hole. The Walter's girls always had boyfriends, we'd go down to the stadium (someone always had a key) on Thanksgiving and pretend to be Kennedy's with a game of flag football.

First commute of the year, for me. Rode the Trek 600 down the hill and the 1990 Cdale back up. about 55 degrees and sunny downtown when I left work at ten to 5, 40 degrees up at home, one sundown, 1000 ft climb and 40 minutes later. Got home before "dark." I'm hoping to do more commuting this year; I think starting in February is a good start for a change.

Gravel ride on the fixed gear. Chilly but dry, it felt great to get out today

You have quite a commute. Just curious, how many miles is that 1000ft?
|
@northbend, the scenery you have is just amazing. I can't imagine myself riding fixed gear on some of your hills. Keep em coming.

It's a rail trail, very gentle grades..not tough. You get used to the gravel..a little surfing in 25mm tires. The payoff is I can ride on these trails right from home. No cars, stop signs for 30 miles in one direction and well over that in the other.
My wife and I are heading out there next summer. Definitely will toss a couple of bikes in the back to bring along. |
Posted in what are you doing not where did you ride thread. Now corrected!
Today I've been mostly reminding myself why I love living here. 4 miles out from the start, I crossed a World Heritage site, the Canal du Midi. The white line in the far distance are the snow-capped peaks of the Pyrenees. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=505698 45 mins later I rode over La Clape, a small range of hills between Narbonne and the sea. Over on the right is Gruissan, in front of me is Narbonne Plage, and out of shot to the left is St Pierre la Mer. The Med is not far away as the crow flies, I'm 160m above it. The photo really misses the point. Sorry. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=505697 Ride along the coast road (some cycle path provided!), in to St Pierre for a coffee at a restaurant owned by a friend. He's 100m from the beach. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=505696 By the time I'd got back up to the top of La Clape on a different route I knew that with my current fitness, I was stretching my limits. Home past Nissan and one of the longest occupied sites in Europe (over 6000 years continuous occupation), past Poihles (pronounced Poy) and home. To cap it all, I took Frank the pirate out (1990 Holdsworth Corsair with original Biopace... :thumb:) and enjoyed it so much I'm having 2nd thoughts about selling him on in Spring. If you all have half as good a day as I'm having so far, you're doing pretty well! |
Thats annoying. In the preview it showed the photos.

Beautiful day in the Northeast, 55 degrees, shorts in February is always nice.
