I got to do a solo ride instead of our usual tandem ride. So I took the Gazelle out. Ended up with 67.5miles, so I did my age (but missed on the fractional part).

Today's destination:

Went under this bridge finally finished. They've been working on that RR bridge all the livelong year (or two or three).

Obligatory selfie with the Champion Mondial. It's an easy bike to ride fast and far.

Nice selfie Jim! Got out early today for around 38 miles on the Trek 710. Pretty spectacular morning.http://i482.photobucket.com/albums/r...0807160941.jpg

I rode my age, in km, and am sorry to say it tired me out. I've slipped quite far out of shape these past 3 0r 4 years.

Thanks VR.

Yesterday I was able to get in another 30.

@jimmuller I like your selfie! made me laugh..

I stayed close to home this weekend.
On Saturday, my wife and her friend were going to ride their bikes in the lower valley by Carnation. After Robin left to go pick up her friend in the car, I decided to get on the bike and ride down there to meet up with them. I rode a hard and fast 20 miles and was able to catch up with them just as they were striking out in Carnation. It was a fun challenge.

We rode along at a leisurely pace admiring the horses and flowers by Camp Korey

We stopped for coffee before the girls packed up their bikes in the car and left for home.

I took my time getting home, exploring some of the side trails off the Snoqualmie Valley Trail

Today, I went off early for another foray into the lower valley by myself via the Snoqualmie Valley Trail. It was cloudy and cool - lower 60’s.

I looped back via the river road until I got to Fall City. This is one of my favorite local roads. Normally very popular with cyclists, I guess I was out before everyone was up. I had the place to myself

I climbed back up to the Snoqualmie Valley Trail in Fall City and rode home. I fell asleep on the couch watching the Olympics on TV.
Nice weekend.

Rode 61 miles up the North Shore. Beautiful day for a ride between the heatwaves we've been having.

Picture from the Highland Park train station, which is a good stop for water and restrooms.

Yow, that bike can create a heat wave all by itself!

OK, not quite epic, but a worthwhile, fun destination.

I got in 21 kms on my battered Motobecane Grand Touring, riding out to scenic Hodges, SC and back home again before work -

I got in around 70mi and 3k' yesterday - I was riding with a friend, so limited on pics. I'd say the ride was long enough to call the Raleigh a success. The dogs were barking once back home, but other than that there were no issues. Fit is excellent. MKS Urban Platforms are on order in hopes that they make better friends with my new trail running shoes...

The only real plan for the ride was to try to hit the CT River. Starting off we wound up close enough to Hammonasset Beach to pop in, afterwards in Killingworth we found fantastic back roads with fairly steep gravel climbs and descents with little traffic. No pics of those this time. We wound up at Deep River Landing just in time for the ferry and steam train to arrive. That satisfied the quest, so we headed back.

I've lived here almost 20 years and somehow managed to miss this deli just a few miles from my house.

Delicious sandwiches! I wanted a short distance for a shakedown ride after some repairs to my bike after last Sunday's fall. The deli is only six and a half miles away. Perfect distance, perfect time for lunch.

Very cool mix of vintage bike, vintage ferry, vintage train. You packed a lot of old stuff into that ride. Is that Rliegh of yours an ex-Gugie frame? It looks familiar.

@northbend, the quantity and quality of your rides seems to have gone up since your recent retirement. Considering the starting point, that's saying something! Let me know when you'll be coming out this way for some trail and or gravel riding. Maybe sometime after Cino?

jimmuller 08-13-16 12:03 PM

Wow. Steam trains, riverboats, awesome sandwiches! I am humbled.

However I did get out for 50.36 miles on the Grandis today. The last few days have been HOT (temps in the 90's) and HUMID (dew point around 75) but today was merely cloudy, damp, and cool, inotherwords great for riding.

Farmer Burke has a fine crop of geese this year. Or a fine crop of corn stalks which seem to attract geese.

Vonruden 08-14-16 03:55 AM

51 miles yesterday, the temps reached 99, with a real feel of 107 degrees with humidity, ughhh. Heading out early this morning to try and beat the heat.

Well, I had every intention of getting out early today, before the humidity took over. Sad to say, it didn't happen. Great pictures from all. I'm ready for September!

ButchA 08-14-16 09:01 AM

I went out earlier this morning, before the temps hit like 107° heat index...

16.5 miles in 1hr, 2min, 20sec, for an (avg) speed of 15.9 mph. Not bad at all. Lots of people were out riding early this morning too, which was good to see.

Here's a few complimentary photos...

Gee, can you guess where I am inside West Creek Pkwy business complex? LOL... :)
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...psqotwwb0x.jpg

I stopped along Patterson Ave & River Road, and tried to take a "selfie" with my phone. One of the cool things in the photo... See the water bottle from Conte's Bike Shop here in town? I don't know if you can make it out or not, but the water bottle also says "1957" on it, for when Conte's first went into business. #1957 is also my school bus number for the county public schools transportation department! How cool is that? :thumb:

Hey, thanks! Yes - the Int'l is a gugie bike, I feel lucky to have it. It's a great bike for heading out in an arbitrary direction and seeing what you can find.

jimmuller 08-14-16 11:53 AM

Pretty warm here in the Boston area too. Heat index supposed to hit 105 but it's down to 103 now.

I got out on the Grandis again today, 42.6 miles. "They" issued a heat alert starting at 11 so my goal was to be home by noon. I made it by 10 after. The last hour was a steamah. Well, they were all steamahs but the last one was a lobstah pot.

Cool early lunch in the shade:

It did allow me to meet 2 random cyclist along the way.
I went to Walgreens, came out and the 1st guy was standing by my bike- asking me all kinds of questions. Then later I went to Kroger and the 2nd guy and i came to our bikes at the same time. We chit chatted about cycling around town. He warned me people are CRAZY when it comes to riders. " Make sure you always have your lights on ", he said.
