Mrs CB400 and I went on a little recreational ride today. First stop was to a local Italian restaurant for lunch and then from there we rode to a local farm for some homemade cider and donuts.
She was on her 87 Raleigh Granada 531 and I was on my 86 Fuji Palisade. 12 miles in total and we had a great time. http://lh4.ggpht.com/_FfM_jO4_Tm0/TK...008101601a.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_FfM_jO4_Tm0/TK...601%282%29.jpg |
This great weather has been a joy to ride in at night! I've gotten a handful of nice night mountain bike rides in these past two weeks. Fun fun fun!
This picture was taken just before the ride tonight as my light was flickering to life. Start 6:30. End 8:00 http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...008101843a.jpg |
I love street art, and today, I found plenty of it. This stuff is sanctioned by the city in order to bring awareness to the health insurance crisis. Some of this stuff is HUGE!

I got a nice ride in this AM leaving from Saugerties and winding our way up to Blue Mtn and back to town. The foliage is really starting to pop. I imagine one more good weekend of leaf viewing before the inevitable rain eventually moves in to knock 'em off.
So, here are a couple of shots from todays ride. If any of these pictures seem slightly blury, they are, because I had sweat on the lens. The last picture was at the end of the ride at the free Levon Helm concert he has every year. He's all the way on the far right. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...1017101023.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...1017101025.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...1017101049.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...1017101100.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...017101100a.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...rums/levon.jpg |
Oh, man...I love the NE and particularly the Hudson Valley. Great pics, YoKev.
We had an impromptu Chicago C&V ride this afternoon, maybe six of us. People joined in at various points but most of us started at the top of the Lakefront Trail and went all the way S to Jackson Park (around 67th St) then back. Spectacular day for it. No pictures though! |
Out for a short 32 miler with a friend and his Sekai 2600 today. 55 degrees F, no wind and sunny - perfect fall day.

What is the rear hub on this thing?
I figure that if I had been running a derailleur today I'd still be cleaning it out. http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...vatvmudbog.JPG I am thinking that a Shimano 11 speed IGH is in the works here... that would be da bomb on this bike. |
YoKev, great scenery!
Ditto, SixtyFiver! I rode a few hours through some downtown neighborhoods and a couple parks this morning. Then restocked the coffee supply. http://gallery.me.com/justinhughes/1...12873711110001 |
Lloyd... that is some serious chrome you have going on there.

I gave up looking for the perfect frame and bought a mountain bike frame not unlike yours. I'm going to put an IGH rear wheel on it. :) It has cantilever brakes but I couldn't find anything reasonably priced without them. :( Do you have any news or know where to get news about the new Shimano hubs? Last I checked, there was nothing on the Shimano web site and certainly nothing for sale. |

42 miler, then down to the second day of the Texas Custom Bicycle Show, which was held in conjunction with a cyclecross race.
More photos here Tough looking at the bikes, since they set up the booths facing out onto the straightaway! ;-] http://chuck.kichline.com/bikes/TCBS...s/IMG_4580.JPG[IMG] |

BTW, isn't the saddle bag leaning on the brake cable? |

If you had that much liquor in you, you'd be leaning too.

Rode to a thrift store that folks have been raving about. It was 30 miles round trip all through beautiful fall colors. Got some good scores at the store for myself, my husband and the kids.

I did the Cleveland Critical Mass October ride. It was a lot of fun, felt like being in a parade. For the most part pedestrians and motorists took part in the fun, waving, cheering and giving friendly honks.
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._6597418_n.jpg This couldn't be comfortable to ride in. No pics, sorry. I was busy riding!
I have an ambition to do a 100-mile ride every month next calendar year, and thought I should get into the habit a little before January 1 rolls around. So Saturday I got up a bit before dawn, ate a bunch of penne vodka left over from Friday dinner, and hit the road at about 7:00. It was still dark. And cold. I rode west, into PA; met up with the Central Bucks County bike club Saturday morning ride, and tried to hang with them, but they totally dusted me after about five miles. I was already warmed up (except for my hands), and could keep up with them only until they got warmed up. They average over 18 mph (and under 18 lbs), while I was riding vintage steel. I know, I know, no excuse. I was riding an AW hub with two cogs, which gives six evenly spaced gears; only my second ride with that arrangement, and I started to get into the swing of it. Sometimes to do a 1/2 step upshift you have to shift down the derailleur and up the hub, and a long ride like this is a good way to get into that habit. Anyway, after the club ride lost me, I headed north for a while, then east and crossed back into NJ at Frenchtown; meandered east and south and eventually ended up on familiar roads. Aside from many short stops to eat a few fig newtons out of my seat bag, I stopped for coffee twice, pizza once, minor mechanical issues twice (rear wheel working its way forward in the dropouts). Back home by 3:45, having ridden, I think, 102 miles. Two days later, I'm still feeling a little wiped out, I must admit! |
saweet ride - did a 2 hr 30 miler around central joisey this morning @ 4am - 30F - felt good - all geared up
|
Rode to work , then home. Droped the gear off and rode off to the polling place for my civic duty. Went down the road to Lowes for some more rust converter for the current project.
Then rode home....total 15 or so miles. Done on the daily steel steed, 10 speed free spirit brittany 3ss |
