Got out on the plastic bike today. I turned off on a short road I’ve never been on before, as expected though, it went nowhere, like most new roads in America. Nice view though with the house off to the left very much like an Italian villa.

We took the tandem out for a spin, ended up with 31.55 miles. Maximum speed 27.2mph! We had some tailwind. Lots of traffic; rt 4 heading up toward Chelmsford was crazy. Still, the weather made up for it, a perfect, prototypical spring day in New England.
A delightful lunch at Heart Pond, Chelmsford https://theworld.com/~muller/pics/Ri...2021/Lunch.jpg The bike at rest https://theworld.com/~muller/pics/Ri...BikeAtRest.jpg Yay! The historic Tattooed Chickens sign in Carlisle is still there https://theworld.com/~muller/pics/Ri...ronAndSign.jpg https://theworld.com/~muller/pics/Ri....2021/Sign.jpg Also on the same barn, "For goodness sake, eat... Chicken & Eggs" https://theworld.com/~muller/pics/Ri...kenAndEggs.jpg |
I would definitely eat more chicken if I was confident the state police knew what it had been up to.

Some what nice day today after a few nicer warm days the roads and trails in Pike forest are mostly clear of mud and snow. So I took a nice Sunday ride up Beaver Creek road and along some of the numbered forest roads on the Schwinn Mesa GSX covid clunker still going strong after after a couple thousand hard winter miles.

I love riding on the bike path down at the beach through El Segundo, El Porto, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Torrance Beach. It's just that the people are totally "out to lunch" - some literally, others figuratively.
For example, pedestrians wearing headphones, totally disconnected from their surroundings and oblivious to the traffic are a real hazard. Little kids are understandable and 100% forgivable, the adults less so. They walk down the stairs, onto and across the bike path without even looking. They walk right in front of a cvclist going 15-20 mph. How about people who ride right on top of the center line or those who slalom between the dashed, painted lines? How about groups of people who just stop in the middle of the bike path,... just stop, as if they are the only ones on the pathway? As you go through the King Harbor Marina area, the bike path separates from the roadway. I stay off that portion of the bike path, preferring to ride along with the vehicular traffic, instead. There are too many crazies on the bike path there and it is too congested/narrow with nowhere to bail out. Oh well, I take it all in stride. Despite the rant, I still love riding on the bike path - blue skies, sunshine, gentle on-shore breeze,... what's not to like? "On your left!" :D |
Hello,
Are you riding on the Strand? I've done that many times when visiting Redondo Beach. Thanks |

As far as I know there haven't been many reports of chicken rustlin' over the last few years.

Glad to post this thread, as always.
Out to daughter’s house. Cut grass while they are OOT. Return after raiding the pantry for goodies.
Great weather coming this week for rides. Bit chilly mornings, but no showers. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...58477b0dc.jpeg The only riders I saw were other old guys. And I had forgotten how nice a steady 10-12mph tailwind on a false flat up can be. :) https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...009633cd0.jpeg The paved trail, and on the right, the path down to the Cedar River https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7ed06c1a3.jpeg Just enough water for tubing - but cold! https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9241e1570.jpeg New sunglasses |
I have no pictures, just a short story. Our boiler was out (turned out to be a simple fix which I won't explain here), so I woke up this morning to the thermometer on our fridge reading 59 degrees. It wasn't supposed to be all that warm here today, with highs in the mid-50s and current temps in the low 50s. The forecast called for clouds in the morning, clearing in the afternoon. I figured a ride would help warm me up. That turned out not to be the case. Not only did the clouds not hold the water inside them, the temperature dropped, so by the ten-mile mark I was riding in rain with temps around 38 degrees. I had very little wool on, just my cap and socks. Still, it could have been worse. Fortunately, it wasn't terribly windy and I was riding my one bike with fenders.

I didn’t get much outdoor riding in this past week. Looking forward to offsetting that over the next stretch of days. :)

Questionable weather this morning, so wound up riding indoors on the Neo2T. Calyer to Saler, only 25 miles but 3400 feet of climbing.
Two very sweaty hours! |

Hello,
Are you riding on the Strand? I've done that many times when visiting Redondo Beach. Thanks The area is featured in the iconic Beach Boys song, Surfin' USA. The Bike Path goes from Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Sunset, thru Manhattan and Redondo Beach to the doorstep of Haggerty's. |

I’ve been riding a lot of my usual routes backwards now that I’ve got a granny gear again.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1a98a2740.jpeg This house was owned by a Blazers player for a few years, during which, a dump truck coming down the hill couldn’t make this turn. It went through the railing that my bike is leaning against, over a little cliff, and into the swimming pool! https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f6b73f742.jpeg That one made it into the paper! I’m pretty sure the driver survived, but he must have been scared s***less. I think this hill is a 15% grade, and I’m happier going up it, to be honest. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...14e98ab0c.jpeg |
19 miles around town on the VO Rando with new bar tape. Tape is brighter than it looked on the inter web pic, but I’m sure it will dull down with use. Oh didn’t realize my bars were rotated up so much.

67 miles through the green, green countryside on the Merckx.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9e8e7ec1bd.jpg With critters! https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b5931020ae.jpg |
No pics today. Rode my bike to the grocery store; went past a long line of cars waiting to pick their kids up from school (the school my kid used to walk to) and rode past gas stations with long lines of cars waiting to gas up. I was producing a lot of smug today.

A little post yardwork ride into the hills today. Gorgeous weather.

A very nice day here in Penn's Woods. Cycled lots of the SRT and looped Valley Forge National Park. Stopped to visit with Friedrich Von for a bit. I'd seen on FB that the cousins were in Philadelphia and had lodgings there but were thinking of going up to Reading to sample the fine Deutsch cuisine. Fred said they had not seen any movement yet but had no redoubt they'd be along presently. Cannons ready and arms shouldered.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5c931f52fd.jpg Cool dry air and very light winds from the NNW. Outstanding ride. 40.37159 miles (though it may have been closer to 40.37160. I was not too careful with the measurement). Then lunch. I'm knackered this afternoon!! |
Nice day today so went on a ride up to Thompson park and got to ride part of the Tie Hack trail alternate route parts of the main trail still have a couple of feet of snow in places.
