That tree is winning the battle with the fence, and the multi-colored mural has the upper hand on your Merckx.
I wonder how many years running on the tree/fence fight.

Today, once again, I was able to get a ride in before the rain.

Wifey and I rode downtown for a talk and book signing; part of the Virginia Festival of the Book. Rainy and chilly on the way there but sun peaking out for the ride home. Maybe I’ll be able to ride some more later …

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...aa1ffd5ea.jpeg

Sun stayed out a little bit longer and temps got up above 60 so ended up going back out for 18 climbing miles on the Tommy. Don’t think I’ve posted pics of the Cobalto/Simplex upgrade so here ya go. Apologies for the grime build up.

Japan was hit by cold wave last week.

I'm not sure what tree this is but it is loaded with these bright red berries.

Edit...
I just found out it is an American Holly tree.

Warmer and sunny today with again, a lot of wind. Popped out for a quick ride around town, usual route through the middle of UVA Grounds. Last summer they renovated the road through the middle of grounds to make it more pedestrian friendly - raised crosswalks, etc. The project included 100 ft of sweet bike lane.

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...20dc48318.jpeg
Here I am at the beginning of the Bike Lane. Way off in the distance by the fire hydrant, if you squint, you can see the end of it.

I missed last weekend for a host of reasons, and had today off so I squeezed in just shy of 25 bright, windy miles. The Falcon had freewheel issues towards the end of last season and hadn't gotten much use so it was up in rotation. I enjoy this bike a lot. It handles really nicely, it's stable and responsive all at the same time.

I'll never stop taking pictures at this spot, the Blue Mountain Reservoir in Saugerties.

He used a customized 1971 Ford Thunderbird, dubbed the "Batmobile Rescue Ship". Mr. Perry passed away in 1985, but the car still exists and is in possession of his family.

Just riding the same local roads, lately. Stopping less for pics is a good thing - another is being outside spending time on nice bikes.

Weekend rec ride

The weather was very good.
But Japan was hit by the yellow sand from China desert.

It was a very good cycling day!

darkmoon good to see you out on your Merckx as we start what the Belgian's call 'Holy week', the week book-ended by Tour of.Flanders today (which Eddy won twice) and Paris Roubaix next weekend (which Eddy won 3 times). They are also my.favoirite 1 day races of the year, so I had to take a Merckx out today too and reunite it with some cobbles.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...63fd19b08a.jpg
My 30c tyres make them easier than the teeth chattering 23c or even 21c tyres of yore.

I decided to head towards Greenwich, where of course time is measured from. The clocks change and go forward an hour this weekend so we lose an hour, but after the weather we've been having in the UK recently this at least guarantees 1 less hour of rain:lol:.

Greenwich also has a long naval history, and nearby there is this nice bit of brickwork paying homage to the areas naval past, some of you salty old sea dogs will know the name of this knot....
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...6bb13a27c3.jpg
And in the grounds of the naval college I notice this statue covered in white tape. I've.no idea what the tape is all about, whether part of an exhibition or some kind of protest.
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1dd3ddf089.jpg
i schlep up to the Greenwich observatory, but there was not much to observe, no golden chinese desert sand obscuring my.view,, just grey rainclouds...
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...199eedd229.jpg
...but there was a rather lovely C&V sight at the top that made the climb worthwhile, a beautiful old Ferrari Dino GT, such a pretty car. The more modern Ferrari next to it would smoke it on.road or track, but in terms of beauty and which one I'd take home the Dino wins easily.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c1d12e43d5.jpg
I then head out to the Thamss barrier before turning and heading back.towards the city.
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...03096fb9d6.jpg
I.come acress this shopping trolley watering hole, or graveyard, not sure which but there's 4 of them lurking in this pic.
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2af1f5e3ad.jpg
Back home now and settled down for some Tour of Flanders highlights, who has the strongest.legs today.....

Double sheet bend, as I recall. Good for tying bungees in case one needs to do so.

RCMoeur 03-31-24 12:46 PM

Here in the Valley of the Sun, we only get about 7 inches of rain per year. Yesterday's wind may have scrambled my loose parts, but the skies were clear. This morning was a different story.
https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...95cbef3a01.jpg
But I had a ride to lead, so I got on my gore-tex and got out my heaviest cruiser, an early-80s Chicago-forged Schwinn with a chrome finish, tubby tires, and rust-resistant wire baskets, and pedaled forth into the wet stuff plummeting from the sky.

At the park, the crowd awaiting me was... just Steve, my deputy ride leader. No one else wanted to play in the not-warm Easter morning rain. Oh well - at least we showed up.
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...368f511ff4.jpg

We splooshed along quiet streets, taking a direct route instead of the more scenic ride originally planned. And arrived at the selected fine dining establishment for an elegant Easter morning brunch:

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...fb865505ec.jpg

We were met there by some of the other riders, who recited their excuses for not venturing into the wetness (flat tire, just cleaned the bike's drivetrain, blah blah blah). Still good to get together as my very wet dry bags took a break from the exposure.
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...621aeb8775.jpg

If you're wondering why the hi-tech closure on the Ortlieb: the zipper failed several years ago, but the bag itself is reasonably intact, so I devised an alternate office-supply closure method. The Timbuk2 isn't as waterproof, but did the job today.

After brunch, we parted ways, and I rode uphill to home on my 70 lb. beast, my thighs reminding me we hadn't ridden the past 2 weeks due to illness. But it was a quality workout. :)

All in all, over 21 more miles than I would have put in if I'd slept in. And a good way to finish an otherwise-disappointing month in terms of mileage and conditioning.

And our bunny Sunshine says Happy Easter to all!

That was going to be my guess but only because I recognized a sheet bend with an extra loop in it. Thanks again Botty for the great pics!

I went longish today with a little pep in my step because the forecasted mid afternoon rain had been moved up to early afternoon by the time I started. I got in 40+ , arriving back home as the first scattered drops fell. Many of today’s roads featured on Stage 3 of the C’ville Bike a Palooza in 2021 so some of you may recognize the landscape.
