I'm thinking that I've nailed it down, maybe.. the 85 SR500 came in the Plum color that I'm pretty sure this bike is, and has all of the same components, besides the derailleur/shifters which I think the PO probably upgraded?

And based on serial number I think that the Centurion is an 87.

Whew! Spent a better part of today cleaning and getting stuff dialed in. Great!

Picked up this Fuji Del Ray today for $50 off Philly CL. One owner who got it in highschool. It should clean up nice. Anybody know the year?( EDIT 1984) Check out those black annodized Ukai rims!

I also picked up this SOMA Double Cross frame w/ Surly crosscheck fork & Chris King headset for $120. It might not be C&V but it is all steel!

I picked up this SR Semi Pro yesterday. It is in really nice shape and all 600 Arabesque group too minus the brake levers. I am not sure if the bars are original, but they are SR and aluminum which is unusual in itself.

Bars are not original on that SR.

I need a set like that for a project so let me know if you are going to change them!

toytech 08-01-10 09:02 PM

I probably will change them, I have 7 or 8 random sets of drop bars around so I am sure I can find an appropriate set. I will probably put a Kashimax Super pro seat on it as well after I am done with the strip/clean and grease cycle :D. It rides amazingly well, as good as my former Bianchi (my son has it now) and close to my Simonelli (also gone and missed). It is a shame it is not a 55-56mm frame. It is a 52mm. The rims are nice too, good old Araya's in 27" can never go wrong with Araya's.

Raleigh Sportif

I have been busy here rebuilding an old lugged Raleigh "Sportif" that I rescued from the metals bin at the town transfer station earlier this summer. I am very pleased with how this project is progressing and the bike turns out to be a very comfortable and responsive ride. When I dragged the carcass home, the bike had been the victim of a poorly done "flat bar" conversion complete with big old ugly "comfort" saddle. The wheels were egg shaped and rubbed the brakes both fore and aft. The only thing that saved the old cromoly was a protective coating of oily grease on everything. I wish I had taken a "before" picture. I completely stripped the frame and did a through cleaning, hours of truing and polishing, lots of fitting and re-fitting. New cables, a nice vintage brooks, salvaged bars, and brand new fenders from Velo Orange. I still have to decide on what color bar tape, a water bottle cage and it will be ready to roll. Oh, and yes, I have cut the fender stays since the pictures were taken.

My first DEATH FORK dund dun dunnn... Picked up this rough Reg Harris last night, nice lugs, strong lite cranks and Shimano Crane rear derailleur. It has Lambert branded shifters, fd, brake calipers. It is my size too, now what to do with it? igh rear hub conversion maybe? Just fix it and put appropriate bars and seat? Decisions. Price was right at least.

You can easily straighten that fork, it's barely bent! Don't toss it out or part out the bike!

I'm jealous of both of those catches. I had that exact Del Rey last year but sold it because it was too large for me. I've been searching for one in my size since. I love love loved that bike.

I am on a roll this week, I flipped a trek comfort bike in one day, paid 10.00 washed, replaced broken seat and sold for 150.00. found both the SR and the Reg Harris for the right price and even picked up a Haro bmx cruiser and 50 or so campy, clemente and reynolds t shirt transfers!

Bikedued 08-03-10 06:46 PM

The triple on the Reg Harris = too cool for words! Gorgeous!,,,,BD

Today's catch: 2000 Trek 520. Not vintage, but a nice addition to the keeper fleet. Now I have to decide what goes out.

Very cool. Not actually a great crank, though, and the BB is funky. Of course it's a Lambert crank, not a Stronglight.

Left crank arm is marked Stronglight, might be a replacement though. Has a normal threaded bottom bracket, not the press fit.

Snagged a 1968 Schwinn Runabout from an out of state CL. Needs some TLC, but not in bad shape. It is bizarre how they had the rear Gripper Slik tire on the front and the Spitfire tire on the back. Also it is strange how the ape hangers and handlebar stem are back asswards.

I went to pay a bill yesterday and stopped at a nearby Goodwill while in the neighborhood. As I was walking in the store I saw a road bike in the window so I made a quick turn after entering to see what it was. It was a Big Red Bike according to the price tag but after getting it home I measured it at 52cm c-2-c. It has Columbus Tenax tubing and Suntour Cyclone derailleurs. I think it is a 1985 model.

Compared to the many kids bikes next to it in the store it did look big. :D

toytech 08-04-10 05:13 PM

nice catch! I had a silver gray one just like it.
