Either that or those are 24" tires! It sure looks big. That saddle also looks like an veritable hatchet with a more upright riding position.

frantik 05-06-11 07:01 AM

yeah i noticed how giant that mtb looked

I thought my 22 was huge until this big guy!

Yeah, 34.5" standover height is the tallest MTB that I've seen as well. I normally ride road or touring bikes that should be too big for me because I have long legs for my height. I can ride this bike the way it is set-up, but I must admit, my boys start to pucker when I hike my leg over.

Man! This took some elbow grease. But, I managed to turn this $7 dump find into, what I'd consider, a reliable bike ride. The frame took a lot of work, but the wheels were an absolute grind. Shifts & brakes nicely. Hubs & BB reconditioned and adjusted well. The only thing I added was a decent chain I had and replaced the broken FD with one I found on donor bike. After this, I'm wondering why any bike 'has' to go to the dump.

Yea i hear ya, i mainly deal with road bikes and whatnot, sometimes i get the odd mountain bike, when i get bikes that i can't work with cause they're in such bad shape or just something that i don't deal with, what i do is take them down to this place called CBN (community bike network) here in toronto, which is pretty much the local bike Co-op. these guys fix and make bikes workable to resell for a decent price.

plus they have alot of extra parts and stuff so i go digging for goodies when i'm there.

also if they can't use the bike that you donate to them then they have a scrap metal guy who picks up junk so they can recycle it, hopefully it will be recycled into another bike!!!

Another Ironman. An early version with a 1984 build date(early 85 model?). It is equipped with a Shimano 600 group(not Tri-color).The huge Mill Creek spring garage sales are happening today, so I hopped on my PSV 10 and made a short tour until finding this.

It's an '85. 54CM CTT?

frantik 05-07-11 01:28 PM

in 84 it was the Comp TA right?

Turbo was Tange 1 and Comp TA was Tange 2. '85 was the first year for the Ironman.

frantik 05-07-11 02:03 PM

I thought i read that the Ironman replaced the Comp TA but Ironman always had Tange 1 right?

Roger M 05-07-11 02:17 PM

54cm c-t. It is Tange 1. Did the Ironman come in more than one version this early on(ex:master or expert)?

Womans Schwinn Paramount Year?

Here is today's garage sale find. I don't know the year of this Paramount but it looks all original. Almost everything is Campy including the hubs, seatpost, front derailleur, cranks, etc. I don't need this as a rider and am trying to decide if I part out or sell complete. The amazing thing is that the paint and stickers are in near perfect condition, and there's almost no rust on the bike. It was a good day.:thumb:

no, they added names later when they added a lower end "expert" equipped with shimano 105

Thanks. I forgot to mention there was actually ANOTHER Woman's Paramount at that sale as well. I just didn't have room in the car for 2 bikes with the wife and kids.

Thanks Chris. It is in very good shape, and recently tuned. I only have to clean it up. I really like this year for the Ironman, for color, and for the fork crown.

Beautiful bike, yanksfan. Nice catch

sonatageek 05-07-11 07:14 PM

I thought I had a 'catch of the day' today, $24 for a Schwinn Worldsport. Called on it yesterday (it was at a garage sale) and they held it for me, so I was committed. Picked it up and thought, too bad it is an older model (no cromo frame, steel components), but still only $24. Taking it out of the truck at home I noticed the crash damage --

It was only called an "Ironman". There was no "Expert" or "Master" designation. It's super nice. There's a 58cm here in my area.

You think they still have it? It would be worth picking up, as they are actually pretty rare. People go bonkers for even just the framesets on the bay.

Fuji Supreme I got at a village garage sale day for $3. Really good condition except for the Fuji decal. Even got a new seat for 50 cents at different sale. Hell yeah.

I think I'm gonna take off those wheel reflectors though. They look silly.

There was a Free Spirit Sunbird for $5 as well, but that thing was an anchor and in a little worse shape.

last year I was adjusting the rear derailleur on a catch and one of those wheel reflectors came off, and bent the chainstay and broke several spokes in the process. Those things are the first thing to come off.

Some nos velocity aerohead rims, guy I got them from said he probably has more and will check for me, also found some old anodized sunshine bmx hubs, which is funny cause I reconfigured one over a year ago into a road wheel, I swapped the axle out on the gold one already and will likely build it to something, the red I probably won't use.

That's when you tell the wife and kids to get out and wait while you run the bikes home ;)

I know mine wouldn't mind :)
