I know mine wouldn't mind :)

That's funny. Actually, if I wasn't 40 minutes from home, I would have left my teenage son there while shuttling the bikes. Just a little too far, even for a second Paramount.

Thanks. I forgot to mention there was actually ANOTHER Woman's Paramount at that sale as well. I just didn't have room in the car for 2 bikes with the wife and kids.

I know what you mean, a few times I didn't have room in the car for the wife and kids with the two bikes in there.

Edit - I see I'm far from alone in my opinion :)

I wish there was an emoticon for the whiny moan I'm making reading the story about the double ladies Paramount find.

In my case it's not a problem, at least in the summer when the rack is on the car :)

Spring Cleanup days in town this week.................the scrappers were swarming most of the day yesterday. I had a few Mothers Day "Honeydo's" to take care of for a good part of the day and by the time I had a chance to look around it was slim pickens. However, I did manage to spot something way up on top of a scrapper truck. I asked the driver if I could buy it and he said it was already strapped down. Well I convinced him to let me climb up and take a look. I offered him $10 and said I'd dig it out myself...........a Univega Supra Sport saved from the dump!

I live in a set of flats and semidetached houses from the fifties. We have the the tradition here of the "Dugnad", working together in spring to make everything spic and span before our fourth of july, the 17. of may. This year I was a bit apprehensive because this year our special focus was the bicycle storage rooms in the basements where i am taking up a bit more than my fair share. All went well and we were supposed to throw out all bicycles not marked as owned into a dumpster. I picked up this midlevel Norwegianbrand Mtb and plan to give it to someone at work. Probably 88 or 89. Horrible plasticcoated steel brakes and weird biopace cranks, a complete Exage Mountain group. However a DB Tange Japanmade frame and it's used but still got a lot of life left. Very weird geometry; 18" ST CC and a very short TT at 21". I removed the Hiterise and put some more grease into the hubs, tightened the crank and the headset and it's ready for a new life. (A pity I also had to let Farmer John and Farmer Johns Cousin go because of old age)

some great finds here :)

WNG 05-10-11 02:48 PM

Yes, a string of excellent scores! Congrats!

My find today is far less pretty. :D
Slim pickings out here. But spotted this Schwinn for cheap. The seller looked like a drunk. I think this was his DUI ride. It was in terrible condition, someone started scraping the paint off it. And half the parts (shifters, FD, brake levers) were missing. I was about to leave when I spotted the 4130 tubing sticker and it was all chromed underneath. The components are all Shimano Exage Mountain w/ 6spd Uniglide freehub, OLD is 130mm. Weinmann concave rims. And it has a U-brake. I assume it's a 1988 by that.
For the 19" chromed frame, I paid $10, felt sorry for the guy.
So, I couldn't find a 1988 Schwinn MTB catalog online. This Schwinn is an unknown to me, no decals left. Here are a few shots of the frame details. If you recognize it, give me a shout.

^Looks like a Schwinn High Sierra.

WNG 05-10-11 04:12 PM

Thanks for the clue Veloh! Searching...
It's not a High Sierra, but close...a Sierra, one model below. From '88.

Dang! I guess I don't get the grand prize. :D Nice score though.

This might be on the edge of C&V, but It's lugged steel, and looks like a pretty decent bike. This is REI's house brand. I think it is from the early 90s

^ nice... with Ultegra too it looks like :)

due to the fact it's made in japan i would guess late late 80s. plus ultegra was 1988-1991 according to velobase: http://www.velobase.com/ViewComponen...2-d3236e2fd096

Mine is bigger than yours. :D

Saved this one last week. Too big for me. Just didn't have the heart to let her go to waste.

Neighborhood clean-up box brought a Peugeot Ventoux frame (54cm) with 501 tubing plus an S/A wheel and a full set deore 7speed components. Dumpster was two houses away and the guy monitoring the box just left it by my house. So, I ended up with some scrape metal (bike junk) too. Gotta take the bad with the good...

frantik 05-10-11 09:43 PM

just brought home a stinker! lol only $25 so no big loss but i didnt notice it had been poorly resprayed until i was loading it up in to the car. Only bought it cause it had a Centurion headbadge but it's got steel 27" wheels and cottered cranks, and is missing the front derailler, and it's a 64cm lol.. all bad bad things for flipping

i'm just gonna put it back up on CL for 25 and get rid of it

here is the CL pic.. don't feel like putting the wheels on it to take a pic

Your's looks to be older and in much better condition.
That's a mighty tall frame!
Mine fits me perfectly. I was jones-ing for a chrome frame after the recent chrome frame thread.
It's already half-stripped and preparing for paint remover. Should be a fun build.

Yep, it's a 23" frame. Lol. It's all up on my junk, so it has to go.

Sixty Fiver 05-11-11 03:29 PM

8 pairs of NOS Mavic rims in 650A and an NOS pair of 48 spoke Ukai rims in 27 inch... these had been tossed out and found them when I was checking out the shop's parts graveyard.

And I also found a Peugeot rack.

:)

WNG 05-11-11 06:03 PM

^ Wow, nuts tossing out 20 new rims! Nice find indeed.

some people just dont care or dont want to waste their time

selling on CL efficiently is a "skill".. if you don't know how to write a good ad, take a picture and have the patience to deal with (virtual) lookie-loos then in the trash it goes

where i live you can just put anything of value on the sidewalk and someone will take it lol

robtown 05-11-11 07:15 PM

Series 5 Paramount OS road bike. Full 105. I picked it up with a Mongoose Pro 24 speed from a CL posting 2 hours ago. One should be good for a coworker.
