The Exage levers are nice... I like the built in quick releases so might just find black hoods for them.

Just teasing of course. It doesn't help that those hoods are usually a bit sticky. I have a set of 600 levers with black hoods that I know are filthy, but it doesn't show, so I haven't cleaned them in ages...

Got up this morning and installed those Shimano bar end shifters... they are a little scruffy but so is the bike and the shifting is flawless.

I took my first ride with bar end shifters yesterday (might even be the same Shimano ones)... they are so unbelievably convenient. On a bigger bike at least, they are just there, no reaching, awesome.

It was a bit amusing when I instinctively tried shifting the front with my right hand.

They are like dirt magnets... they were pretty grimy when I got them and it took forever to get them cleaned up and it does not take time for them to look like that again.

I prefer black hoods as even if they get dirty you don't notice it as much.

I found this for just $7.00!
Cleaned it up. Changed the cables, bar tape. And here it is! c.1985 Trek 400 series.

Since the pic was taken I added some red SPD pedals and aero brake levers.

These are the "Before" and "After" shots.
I had to travel 5 hours each way to get it. But, beside the gas, time, and buying the previous owner a dinner, I think it was worth the trip.
Spent about a total of $300.00 fixing it up.

$7 ? Great score! - That might even qualify as the deal of the month.

Sixty Fiver 04-04-11 07:51 PM

This was free.

I did have to add proper bars, a better saddle and polish her up a little and re-laced the rear wheel.

Still need to re-lace my front wheel which is sound but the spokes are hideous.

That's not a deal of the Month , Sixty -- that's the deal of the Century.

Got these for $20.00 each, I honestly consider it $40.00 for the Raleigh because I really don't know if I can do much with the Schwinn.

I need to decode the serial number for the Raleigh but the guy thought it was late 60s since he recalls buying it used in about 1970, It appears to be early to mid seventies to me though.

And the Schwinn Breeze 26" wheel three speed,

Gthoro 04-04-11 08:55 PM

Selling the Schwinn saddle on eBay could bring $20-$40. The Raleigh looks to be a '74. Nice pick up.

Doohickie 04-04-11 09:07 PM

That's a Wrights W3.N on the Raleigh. I have one of those on my Raleigh Super Course (didn't come with it though). It's a nice, comfy saddle.

SteveSGP 04-04-11 09:25 PM

I'll probably clean up the Schwinn and see what I can get for it.

I'm also hoping I can save that Wright saddle, I'm thinking it'll come back with a little Neatsfoot.

I have sold a few of the Schwinn 'S' saddles on the Schwinn bike forum. Saves the hassle of ebay and nice people.

I had the same yellow 3 speed Breeze a few years ago, picked up for free at the end of a garage sale. Rusty and tires were rotted completely through. A little cleaning and a set of new tires from Niagara Cycle Works and it was a very smooth ride.

Centurions are center to top.

You have a '86 58cm, there.

Sixty Fiver 04-06-11 04:35 PM

It is orange and has very little mileage on it and hardly a scratch.

Local business was tossing this out...

It needed a new pressure unloader switch and a tank check valve and took all of 20 minutes to repair.

My new 5hp / 25 gallon compressor cost me $14.00 and the outlet regulator on it is nice... just dial in the desired tyre pressure and it stops automatically.

curbtender 04-06-11 07:15 PM

I always get a cold foot to my butt at midnight when I forget to shut it off... bbbrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhought, nice find.

YoKev 04-06-11 07:25 PM

OOoohhh my, I'm getting twitchy for a catch of the day soon!
