I clean them a few times a year and it is always a challenge to keep them reasonably white... will be switching them to some 600 aero levers with black hoods and grey ano'd levers as the plan is to powder coat the bike black and put the bike into stealth mode.
The Exage levers are nice... I like the built in quick releases so might just find black hoods for them. |

Got up this morning and installed those Shimano bar end shifters... they are a little scruffy but so is the bike and the shifting is flawless.
It was a bit amusing when I instinctively tried shifting the front with my right hand. |

Just teasing of course. It doesn't help that those hoods are usually a bit sticky. I have a set of 600 levers with black hoods that I know are filthy, but it doesn't show, so I haven't cleaned them in ages...
I prefer black hoods as even if they get dirty you don't notice it as much. |

I found this for just $7.00!
Cleaned it up. Changed the cables, bar tape. And here it is! c.1985 Trek 400 series. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=196431 Since the pic was taken I added some red SPD pedals and aero brake levers. |

These are the "Before" and "After" shots. I had to travel 5 hours each way to get it. But, beside the gas, time, and buying the previous owner a dinner, I think it was worth the trip. Spent about a total of $300.00 fixing it up. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=196433 |

http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...010spring1.JPG I did have to add proper bars, a better saddle and polish her up a little and re-laced the rear wheel. Still need to re-lace my front wheel which is sound but the spokes are hideous. |

Got these for $20.00 each, I honestly consider it $40.00 for the Raleigh because I really don't know if I can do much with the Schwinn.
I need to decode the serial number for the Raleigh but the guy thought it was late 60s since he recalls buying it used in about 1970, It appears to be early to mid seventies to me though. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...s/DSC04260.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...s/DSC04270.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...s/DSC04271.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...s/DSC04277.jpg And the Schwinn Breeze 26" wheel three speed, http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...s/DSC04279.jpg |
Selling the Schwinn saddle on eBay could bring $20-$40. The Raleigh looks to be a '74. Nice pick up.

That's a Wrights W3.N on the Raleigh. I have one of those on my Raleigh Super Course (didn't come with it though). It's a nice, comfy saddle.
|
I'll probably clean up the Schwinn and see what I can get for it.
I'm also hoping I can save that Wright saddle, I'm thinking it'll come back with a little Neatsfoot. |

I have sold a few of the Schwinn 'S' saddles on the Schwinn bike forum. Saves the hassle of ebay and nice people.
http://www.schwinnbikes.com/schwinn-...ic-Classifieds I had the same yellow 3 speed Breeze a few years ago, picked up for free at the end of a garage sale. Rusty and tires were rotted completely through. A little cleaning and a set of new tires from Niagara Cycle Works and it was a very smooth ride.

It is orange and has very little mileage on it and hardly a scratch.
Local business was tossing this out... It needed a new pressure unloader switch and a tank check valve and took all of 20 minutes to repair. http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikep...mppressor1.JPG My new 5hp / 25 gallon compressor cost me $14.00 and the outlet regulator on it is nice... just dial in the desired tyre pressure and it stops automatically. |
I always get a cold foot to my butt at midnight when I forget to shut it off... bbbrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhought, nice find.
|
OOoohhh my, I'm getting twitchy for a catch of the day soon!
