That's a beautiful stem. I would use it, not sell it.

I really like the two tone. I am thinking about trying the mustard fenders from this Raleigh Sprite

If you do, I've got a pair of brown fenders you could put on the Sprite to create another two-tone. Let me know if you're interested.

Schwinn guys...paging Schwinn guys...Any idea what year this thing is?? It has a Shreveport bike shop decal on the seat tube so it must have been made before the walmart deal. It's got a shimano pps shifter for the rd and a shimano em shifter for the fd. Serial # is SA916883. Thanx...:)
Check here for serial number. I would guess 1989 or 79. http://www.re-cycle.com/history/schw...nB_Serial.aspx There are multiple threads on Schwinn serial numbers here on BF. |

Yeah, that definately looks like it. Still...one guy says either 84 or 85 and another says the silver paint didn't start 'til 88!! Hmmm...
Oh, and it's a world tourist. edit...ok, the decals don't match the 84 or 85 at all...so I'm guessing that narrows it down to between 88 and 91. |

That should decode to a January of 1979 build, but check the right rear dropout for a date code in the format 'Gmmyy' (Giant, month, year).
Bob +1 for being mid to probably late 80s. The Schwinn catalogs on line do not have the specs for this model, but the positron RD makes it late 80s. The serial number should be underneath the BB, but have a look at a couple of things: the headbadge date code (shown below) : http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2751/...19f3940ccd.jpg (the 1249 here indicates that the frame was built the 124th day of 1989) and the date codes on your Shimano components (2 letter combinations). |

This Cinelli stem came with a repainted 1966 Atala frame I bought for myself (posted a thread about it). I've had it for months just sitting on my desk looking pretty. Can anyone tell me anything about it? As near as I can tell from my web-crawling, it's likely from the late 50's or maybe early 60's. Love the brass badge. Sorry about the webcam pics, my camera bit the dust.

Isn't Positron like mid 70's until early 80's? Late 80's we're almost into brifters!
Positron did return again during the Shimano Ax years for naming their indexing system. |

+1, Positron was around 75-78, for a ramped rear derailleur design. I remember one installed on a Sears Free Spirit bike a friend bought. (that got returned and replaced with a Peugeot).

Originally that badge would have been enameled, e.g.:

I read World and FFS (PPS?) and thought late '70s. Those are most definately late '80s decals. Sorry for the misdirection. Bob |
Here's a couple of others...Could this be a Greenville, Ms. bike? It seems an awefully short skip to a bike shop in Shreveport. Perhaps it got homesick and sneaked back across the river. :p

Picked this Hercules up on CL . Dunlop rims, brass capped oilers on the hubs and BB and a Herc. Type A 3 speed hub. Still trying to determine an age; 30's-40's-50's?

Stopped at a thrift shop on the way home tonight and picked up a nice set of Nitto B123AA track bars for $3.50 :D They also had an old low-end Ross road bike for $15, but I left that one behind.

I also stopped at a thrift store and picked up a Brooks B66s saddle for 4.99. Someone has removed the top rail and tried to make it a single rail but it just does not work well. So it will need a new frame. Other than England does anyone know where I may find one. None on Ebay.

Picked this old Schwinn StingRay up for a song today as I was picking up the chainguard for my Raleigh Twenty. This was hanging upside down in the garage.
Still not sure of the year. The serial number was above teh left dropout and it was J43972. http://i914.photobucket.com/albums/a...y/Stingray.jpg |
