No pictures... but I got a nice old 1951 English Norton bicycle from an antique store out in "nowhere, Illinois" today. It was on the porch with no price tag so I asked the girl running the store for the owner if it was for sale. So as I am calculating how much I am willing to spend on what I know is a very uncommon English 3 speed on this side of the pond, with rather pretty lugs I might add, the girl calls the owner. She then says, "would you be willing to pay $20.00?" I answer instantly (in my head) and then said (out loud), "Yeah, I suppose I could do that... got a spanner handy?"

Now I generally don't buy "Womans" bikes... but I have a friend in from New York who asked me to find her something that she could ride when she comes into Chicago, and she likes all of the crazy and interesting bikes I have for myself. So all I have to do is clean this gem up a little and give it to her. ---$20.00

Okay, here are some "after" photos of the Peugeot I picked up last week at the "Transfer Station" (aka "Dump"). It's a shame it was tossed on the scrap metal pile, because it picked up a couple dents and some scratches . :( It looks like it hung in a garage for a VERY long time. When I opened up the BB and hubs, the substance I found inside more closely resembled dried strawberry jam than grease. The hub races have a permanent discoloration pattern because the ball bearings sat in the same spot for so long. The bike looks pretty much the same on the outside because I mainly wanted it rideable and didn't want to spend too much time buffing it. It's scratched and dented and was free, after all. I just want it to function. The new bar tape is a bit of extravagance for me, my only expense on the bike. I put on some aero levers, an old Avocet Touring saddle (keeping it "French" although the saddle is probably made in China) and put on my SPD "campus" pedals so it's more versatile. I also found while cleaning it up what looks like an original inventory sticker with the SN and Model# PGN10M60 (PGN10, Mens, 60cm). Cool!

I just love this bike very nice,I have a Peugeot mountain bike that is the same color but I don't know much about it,I got it at a auction for $12 almost 20 years ago.I am going to start a thread to try and find out some info on it as it is getting a total make over thanks to finding this site.

Agreed. Definitely not LOOK compatible. Ritchey pedals *will* work with Shimano cleats, but not as well as with Ritchey cleats.

Todays find is this single speed supercycle, it's in mint condition, I cleaned some rust and it's like new, even the tires are new, they still have the rubber knub things I also found soe other bikes but they are newer bikes.

Well it is starting to pickup as far as finding bikes go but not to many C&V or top end bikes,these are from this weekends yardsales for a total spent was $40 and $30 was for one bike, a 2004 West Coast Limited chopper and it came with a Trek 4500 missing the wheels.

Sweet! It amazes me when people throw away bikes like this (although it doesn't seem to happen around me, or there are more metal collectors sweeping them up), but finding one with cash taped to it is a first afaik. Judging by the amount of seatpost and stem you have showing, I think it might be a stretch to call this your size, though. You might still want to keep your ear to the ground for one a bit larger. You could always flip the Fuji.

I posted this in the other thread, but here's my PH 501. I got it for free from a family friend that simply had too many bikes. He is the original owner of the bike. This bike has lived its whole life in inland SoCal, so there is absolutely no rust. I spent $60 for two Continental tires, Bontrager SPD pedals, and new Cinelli tape. The only non-original parts are the Shimano RX100 brakes and the aforementioned parts. It's pretty much the same bike as Bluesdaddy's, but with a higher serial number. Up here in Northern Arizona I don't really have any places to ride because I can't handle the hills with double chainrings.

It is hard to keep it to a minimum.3/4 of the yard is clean and presentable the other 1/4 is mine and the wife stays away and a 7" vinyl fence keeps the neighbors happy "what they can't see won't hurt them" we just hauled 2000lbs of junk bikes and lawnmowers out just in time to start this summers stock pile and then the whole cycle will be repeted. When I had my big shop a few yrs ago I would keep about 75-150 bikes and over 80 lawnmowers for parts and a few dozen motorcycles for parts or repair and the way it worked there is if I didn't touch it within a year it went to the junk guy no matter what,can't do that here (sigh) I am a small engine/motorcycle mechanic by trade and working on bikes was just something I did for fun and to make some extra coin but now it is the other way around and I was just offered a full time job as a bike technician :rolleyes: for a shop in a few towns over so I guess I have to think real hard about my options.I think it will be hard working for someone again after 12years of being my own boss and before that I was a foreman/head mechanic for a big rental outfit.

I have a bunch of motorcycles out of view and most in my storage buildings,had to many stolen over the years and with nerve damage to my hands I don't ride anymore but I have owned most of them since I was a teenager and I want to be buried with them.God I am such a packrat :D

Very sweet! I had a 1984 Oly 12 that I loved dearly, but wrecked and bent the frame. The Oly 12 is a good solid mid-range offering. Something to brag about, but not the best of the best. For $60, you did very well.

Well, it must have been Fuji DAY at my favorite thrift store. After not finding a decent T/S bike in about four months, I found four today. This morning I picked up a really clean 1990s Schwinn Criss Cross. I was pretty pleased to finally find something. Then this evening, I went back one more time, and found three vintage Fujis. A Fuji Del Rey, a Fuji S12S, and a Fuji Royale. All at the typical thrift store pricing. I was running low on inventory, so it was nice to get a recharge.

Wow I wish I could find bikes like that in this area very nice,this being a shore resort area most of the stuff we get is beach cruisers or cheap ATB bikes that have more rust then paint not to many road bikes.
