Picked up a decent little 1988 Trek 360 a couple weeks ago that I don't think I had a chance to show.

Torn on this one. Has some really nice 700c that would work well on my wife's Mixte that it going to be part of a His and her's bike pair I am going to build. On the other hand it is a really nice and complete bike that is cleaning up and not sure I have the heart to part it. It would bring good coin on a flip.

Picked up a mid to late 80's Ross Mt Pocono ladies MTB. Other then some minor adjustments and a wipe down this was a good to go bike at $15. Already on CL will probably sell tomorrow if I have time to meet people before the ride of silence.

Tonight I picked up a odd one. Not a "Vintage" as it Looks to be a 1995 "Proflex Arcadia". I usually shy away form MTB's over $10 but this one had some halfway decent parts on a Tange Cro Mo frame and just "odd". Complete Acera group including hubs on Mavic Rims. Not abused but neglected. Has that weird Elastomer bushing set up for the rear and it has disintegrated. looks like a hard part to find. I think that's why it got put out in the weather since it no longer was ride-able. Looks like it has it's original tires and very low miles.

Might be able to shove a spring in but that may make it "bouncy" since there is no shock involved. Place in Scotland may be able to hook me up with the elastomer parts but not sure it is worth it at nearly $40. Paid $30 for it so even if I have to part it it was worth it for the rims and other parts. $70 in it after cleaning it up and buying the parts to fix it. Possibly needs a chain as well and the fork feels "loose". I am not sure it would bring $100 on CL since nobody knows of the brand. Parts I could probably get that for it without spending $40 to fix the suspension.

Might be interesting start to make something like a home brew big dummy.

I would flip that Trek 360. Around here, vintage steel Treks sell quick. And you are in a better market than here. You can always pick up a less desirable donor.

Are these goodwill/salvation army type stores?

I go to all brands of thrift stores: church, charity, for profit, and so on. Just google thrift store for your area/region, you will find a lot of them.

The thrift store search is hit and miss, mainly miss. >99% of the bikes I see at thrift stores are either kids bikes, or XMart bikes (usually both). And then, every so often, you will be rewarded. And you better grab it fast, because it will not be around long. There is no "good brand" thrift store, its really about the donations that come in. If all they get is Xmart bikes, then that is all they are going to sell.

It works better if you have other items you are looking for (and something more common). Otherwise, it can get pretty discouraging.

And I have done just as good this year finding deals on Craigs List and ebay (with a lot less looking).

Not very exciting, which I apologize for....

Schwinn Varsity that had broken Positron on it, a bent rear wheel, and a lot of cobwebs. Bought it from a customer for $5. Tossed the 20 pound stem and drop bar, put on a new, light 21.1 stem and riser bar, NOS Shimano 7 speed thumb shifter, Exage rear wheel I had laying around, cheapo rear derailleur, Shimano Tourney road crank also laying around, and a used Salsa saddle. It's a groovy Starbucks-Runner bike now. :p

It's a really interesting machine with lots of non-standard parts. The fork is the replacement steel one but just about everything else is original and labeled Lambert. Even the toe clips and straps are Lambert brand and in good shape. The bike is lighter than I would imagine but the rims.....I've never seen such loose spokes and I think it's because the rims have deformed. You can actually hear the spokes moving in and out of tension when you ride:eek:

I hate to show these awefull pictures of poor neglected bicycles but I must, I came home and found these two leaning on my house, I think my bud dropped them off, who does this to a nice fixe? like I think the vframes so rusted it's shot, and the 3 speed might be a gonner to, well not at my house. all bikes get chances.

Edit: Yeah the norco is dead, theres a hole in the frame that looks like air blew out of it. good news is I can make myself a fixe lol

Got a few things today, seatpost that will fit the mtb I am building up. campy nuovo record derailleur, nice ttt bars 44 cm, suntour GPX downtube shifters, some dia compe aero levers, ones missing the clamp, but I got them for the hoods.
I've noticed eveyone else finding slim pickings. Same here, but the thrill of the chase is so fun.

I noticed the single speed norco I got has campy stuff on it, the wheels and most other parts, I can't belive someone neglected this bike, well now my windsor has some nice wheels lol

Picked up a really nice condition Bianchi Project-3 mountain bike. It is a 1991 model (bought from the original owner) and is interesting in that it is one of the first iterations of mountain bikes with 700c wheels. So a near pristine early 90's 29er. :D Fully lugged frame and Shimano Exage System M derailiurs and brakes and Sugino Fuse 300 crankset.

Working out of town last month, I came across this Novara leaning up against a shed with a collection of colorful treasure (Junk). Knocked on on the door, no answer...This week I drove through the same town, and made a side trip to see if it was still there, it was, and this time there was somebody home. I asked if the bike was for sale? the guy said what bike? I showed him, "Oh that thing make me an offer"? $20 bucks and it was mine. It's made up of Tange #1 tubing and so so Shimano components. The down side is that it's a bit big for me (56cm) so it will get flipped.

I forgot to post this; it is a nice Ciocc SLX frame that came with a Super Record headset and BB and a Dura Ace crank on it for $80. The chrome was so dull that it I initially thought that it had been painted grey! I got it shining again with some Brasso and I think it will be a nice addition to the fleet. This is a pretty lousy photo but you get the idea...

I really wasn't up to yardsaling this weekend but we made a few before noon on Sat hitting several that stated bikes for sale in the paper and they were gone and nothing good anyway,picked up a few real cheap and clean kids bikes and then I found a Schwinn Speedster w/Sturmey Archer 3 speed,the guy said his brother bought it new for his paper route and then in the 70's his dad put a gas engine(which sold the day before for $5:cry:) on it and road it dressed like a clown in local parades. I am not sure on the year yet as I need to dig out my ser# list but I think maybe a 59 or 60 by looking at it ser# is BO4T122,almost looks like BOAT122:D
