Suntour actually invented indexed shifting but never pursued it... when their patents expired Shimano jumped on it and ran and by the time Suntour caught up their lack of planning and other economic factors of the time doomed them.

Suntour was a small company and could not handle the losses they experienced while Shimano is a monster and withstood the economic crisis that affected the Japanese in the 80's.

What I read is that yeah, they came up with the idea, but had problems with early models and couldn't really get past them.

In my experience, SunTour's Accushift index system worked s well as Shimano's SIS index system. The problem was, Shimano's SIS came out first and sewed up the OEM market before SunTour could get Accushift out the door in sufficient quantity. The loss of the OEM market put SunTour into a tailspin from which it never recovered. The Shimano juggernaut put most of the French and Italian component industry out of business as well. Even Campagnolo had a doubtful future for several years in the late 80s and early 90s before recovering, and to this day you see very little Campagnolo spec'ed on OEM bikes.

The rear hanger was bent, so I pulled out my handy hanger alignment tool and straightened it out. The impact that bent the hanger also broke the rear derailleur. So I replaced it with a spare Shimano unit. Shifts nice.

I added all new cables and housings, bar tape, aero brake levers, and a new saddle to finish it off. :thumb:

Norco? funny thing I never get norco road bikes then two magicly apear, one in morning one after lunch, I'm geussing ones mid quality and other is higher, heres pics.

I live in a small town. this guy was taking it to the coffee shop where his wife works. He looked like ned flanders from the simpsons, not quite as yellow, but flanders with shorts on and white sneakers and socks.

this was today's scores. two hours of yard saling. not much to speak of, but this for $7. Dura ace 28 hole hubs on matrix rims. Rear with bladed spokes, front with regular, haven't looked that close. looks like they stuffed an 8 speed cluster on a 7 speed and then exposed it to some weather. I think 8 speed Mirage shifters and some schwinn pedals with mtn and road spd on them. another 5mm and 6 mm allen.

front hub is nice and smooth, rear might not be perfect. not sure if the nipples are corroded into the rims either.....
the shifters are bringing a certain wheel I have even closer to reality.

Those Schwinn pedals are intended for spinning bikes, so I'm not sure how long they'll last in the real world. The shop I used to work for - before it was sold - had a few sets of those hanging around. We serviced the spin bikes at a studio in the same strip mall. When the store was sold, the new owner (whom I worked for for a year before calling it quits) wanted them gone. So we sold them for $10/pair.

Can't beat all of that for $7.

I fished this mixte out of the recycle bin last night only to find that it has some nasty front end damage. Unfortunately, it's going back into the bin. But first I think I'll play around with the Front Freewheeling System. I've never seen one of those and have always been a bit curious about them.

I was out yesterday with my brother and his 3 kids and our township was having a kids day out with a small bike rodeo for kids then a small auction so that kids that didn't have bikes could bid on the bikes that the police find and never get claimed and when they were done the adults get a chance with what is left,well that didn't work out to good and it was poorly run but everybody had a good time and every kid there got a bike or two and each one got a new bike helmet.Here is what we walked away with.

When we got home all of us went out riding in Cape May and watched the sun set and I got a shot of a few bikes we road that have all been saved from the dump,My wifes mint 30+ year old Free Spirit 10 speed and my 70 Columbia Play Bike chopper that my one nephew road and loved.All and all we had a great day and was good to hang out with my nephews,niece and brother.

That frame looks VERY much like my 95 T700. Does it have the third bottle mount under the down tube?

Handle bar swap I think you just got a cheap touring bike. Check the geometry after you figure out the year.

Been stripping down a late 80's Cannondale I was given... the frame is toast.

The nicest bit on the bike was the mid 80's 3ttt Pista stem with the Colnago pantographing.

Now I just need a Colnago to put them on.

Thanks for the link I will find out the year later,it doesn't have the 3rd mounts(not positive though) under the top tube.I think it will make a good tourer also and was just out in the shop fitting a Blackburn rack I had on it and there is a ton of room between the pedal and where a panier bag would sit so I think I am safe there and it also has the mid mount on the front fork.The components are all Shimano STX on it and will just need new cables before I get to far from home with it.I think $70.00 was a good deal for what it is what say you.
