Why use such a nice tubing product and then use a heavy steel chain/spoke guard? I wonder why Aluminum never caught on for these, they used al rims! were post construction derailleurs usually that out of adjustment?

They did I have a bunch of Suntour aluminum Dork Disk, one I am about to polish up for a vintage build I am working on

Its there to protect bike shop owners and manufacturers and everyone else from the lawsuit police. Its still possible to get a derailleur in your spokes even if its adjusted right.

Here is a picture of the Bridgestone T500 I picked up last Friday. It is in really nice shape and rides great. It is a bigger frame than I would normally ride, but when I am up on it, well, it pretty much fits like a glove. I find myself saying this a lot, and then selling, but I really think I am going to keep this one.

It did not come with a seat, so I added a Wrights that I had in the parts bin

As stated above ... lawyers. Note also "Schwinn's unique positive wheel retention clips" on the front wheel.

Schwinn did use small aluminum dork disks on some early '60s derailleur bikes.

Many of these bikes no longer have the spoke protector and they are very hard to find.

That looks very much like an alloy Suntour spoke protector?? I see them all the time. I guess it could be a steely though, looks like it has a few orange tinges on it.,,,,BD

It needs a good wipe down but I've been riding it the past two days and love it to bits!

It is pretty tall -- I am 5'10" and I can just clear the top tube, but the top tube length and the ride fit is incredibly good.

Can someone refresh me--was there a Team Record sold in the UK made of 531 and a Team Record sold on this side of the pond that was much lower down on the Raleigh totem pole?

Maybe this is true, but as long as the adjustment screws are tight, and the derailleur doesn't get bashed in some way, how could it end up in the spokes?

Oh, and the dork disk on my SLT pictured above is steel. I would take it off if I used the wheel for one of my bikes, and give the buyer the choice of keeping it on if I sold it.

On Tuesday I had a chance to stop at a old Schwinn bicycle store that always seemed closed when I was in the area and got to meet the owners (good people) and got to talking about some of the bikes I was working on and I had asked if they had any old stuff they wanted to get rid of and the owner told me he would make me a deal that if I take what he had ready to go I would have to keep coming back when he had more to save him space,I told him No problem and here are a few things I came home with for a total of $20.

Mine is a Worksop built Reynolds 531, with all Suntour Cyclone components and Weimann 605 brakes. From my research it appears that the Team Record was originally going to be only for the French market but Raleigh scrapped that idea and sold most of them in the UK but it appears as though a few got over the pond to the states. Thankfully one of those few was my size :D

I traded a trash picked bike for this mint condition 10 speed, it's a 10 speed with a twist, it's heavy duty and green!
