Don't you figure, yesterday I buy a RX100 group off of Craigs List for "X". Today I find a 1996 Schwinn Passage, at a garage sale, with full 8 speed RX100 group, for 1/2X (typical garage sale price). Of course, I will probably just clean up the Passage and it will move to a new home.

Missed the RX100 stuff. :(
My wife is a bit of a novice rider so I was thinking the STI might be a better set up for her. Looks like plan B for now. 83 520 is about to become the 83 500 the SN says it is. Put the triples and long cage ARX derailleur on the mixte and put the short cage ARX from the Mixte and the double cranks on the Trek and on CL it goes. Hate to loose those sweet Rigda rims on the trek but the Helicomatic is not my favorite. Bike Too short for me so it needs to go. :( I can have that one ready to go out the door by the end of the day. Should bring $150-175 if it draws the interest the 360 did I sold 2 weeks ago. Still trying to decide what to do about the T700. I have RSX 8speed set up I was going to put on it and make it a randonee but two T700's seems over the top. Make the Randonee out of the 83 Fuji Touring III I got for $10 at a yard sale last week. May put the T700 back to stock 7 speed bar end and sell it. Should bring $200-250. Find a 700 front wheel to match the 700 8speed rear and use that to convert the Mixte to STI at a later date. See how she does with the stem shifter on it. Let me go hit the thrift see if anything has shown up since lunch and then get wrenching. |
Saved from the dump - what is it?
Not sure if this is the right thread as I'm a noob to this forum but here goes.
Found this no name frame at my local recycling site last week. It had nice Nervex pro lugs on the frame but was obviously in it's second reincarnation as it was a bitsa, but I thought it deserved better than being melted down as scrap. It has a camapagnolo bar end shifter on Giro d'Italia bars, Weinemann brake levers but a Mafac rear and the bottom bracket and axle are stamped T.D.C.England. The rear derailleur is a nice Shimano 600 from, afaik the 80s. The crank had cotterpins. Stamped into the bottom bracket is NERVEX 59o30643022 - F38 (picture) The forks were stamped 218 inside the stem. I've partly stripped the paint off the frame but there are no original transfers to be found. There is no head badge (unlike the Reg Harris frame found a couple of weeks ago at the same site). Any ideas? The frame seems true, with a small dent on one of the back stays. At another recycling site I picked up a 700c handbuilt rear wheel with Mavic rim and a six speed cassette which fitted perfectly, even got the changer to work (with two hands!). I work in recycling and the germ of an idea is to build a bike from 'reclaimed' parts (apart from safety critical) and then ride it in some sort of challenge ride. Unfortunately the corporate colour for our campaign is pink! I know Nervex Pro lugs were used by just about every frame builder so are not uncommon, were they also used with every type of tubing? I would like to know if anyone can identify the frame so I have some idea of where to go with it.. Hope you can help Thanks Ken |
cool find!

"I work in recycling and the germ of an idea is to build a bike from 'reclaimed' parts (apart from safety critical) and then ride it in some sort of challenge ride." - Reminds me of an old Johnny Cash song, except I think his idea was to build a Cadillac :thumb: |
Peugeot U08 frameset I got from -holiday76 last year. I finally got around to building it up. I used mostly alloy components from the part bins; a mix of Shimano and Suntour.

Sekine Bike purchased at Thrift store for $20
I got this Sekine the other day at a thrift store for 20 bucks. I am pretty new to this so I thought this would be a good one to learn to wrench on. I posted more pics here:

Just snagged this from the original owner for 20-
It is a 72 Schwinn Varsity with rack and orignal owners manual. Some rust on the rims yet rideable. I am a sucker for green. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...a5dd2be21b.jpg |

A little lemon juice and aluminum foil should take care of those rims pretty easily.

More bikes please!
Well to end my weekend two ladie's bikes where just dropped off and This beat up road bike was dropped off earlyer, the Glider is like it's brand new. some rust on rims, the single speed Free spirt comes with crumpled fenders but is in pretty good condition and this hige framed road bike thing thing has a wedged seat pole and lots of work needed. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...u/100_1760.jpg |
Here's the 1000 I got last week. The radials are a little dry. so are wearing fast unfortunately. It'a ridable now, with the brakes hooked up. I also installed my trusty Swift that has been on more bikes than Lance, hehe. It's still eventually going on the Grand Record, but that keeps getting pushed back. This thing fits like it was made for me. I traded the Chrome Voyageur for it, but for the minimal money I had in the Voyageur it was a screaming deal, hehe. LOVE this bike!,,,,BD

Just got back from a sweet catch. Purchased a 1983 serial#'d Univega Nuovo Sport. The gentleman I purchased it from was the original owner. He bought it back in Indiana and had brought it out west with him. It's in amazing condition. I can probably count the paint nicks on one hand. It seems to be all original too; even the tires. Some highlights are SR fluted seat post, Powershifters on the stem (I like 'em), and SR Randnner handlebars. I got some parts sitting around that I'm gonna swap on to it, i.e. sidepull brakes. More to come as it happens. Oh yeah, and only $100.

Neighbor dropped off a box of bike parts from their garage. Some junk along with a Campagnolo front derailleur and three sets of Campagnolo clamp on down tube shifter. There was also a Schwinn approved 3 speed (SA) rear hub. The hub seems to be frozen.

Here's the 1997 Schwinn my wife picked up at a garage sale Saturday. Not vintage, but a pretty nice brifter bike. Picture taken after I cleaned it up a little, and replaced rusty cables. Bike was in unusually good shape for a garage sale. Actually, I am not too sure about the year, as the PO updated to 8 speed.
