Odd one to post here (according to most) but this is a '93 and is the second year Trek came out with the OCLV carbon frame so it's a "vintage carbon" in my book. Ok, that's a stretch I suppose but I like this forum best for my other steel and aluminum frames.
So I just picked up this baby for $100: Shimano 600 8 speed (had tri-bars with sis shifters so no brifters like it's supposed to) Carbon OCLV frame Look ARC pedals 1" threadless carbon forks Compact 53-39 crank (I've been craving one) I set some normal bars on it to complete the look, I'll install 9 speed brifters/cassette soon. Great condition all around and I'll redo cables and do a full lube. Anyone sell green cables? |
Recent craigslist finds for me:
'86 Centurion LeMans RS. 60 cm frame - tallest I've ever had and apparently what I should've been riding the entire time. Definite garage queen that still had the little nubbins left on the tires. Tange #2 frame, great Shimano SIS indexed shifters, Sugino GP 130 cranks, all in all a nice bike. http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/t...S/IMGP1260.jpg And a pair of Raleigh Grand Sports - one rusted 58 cm frame that I will probably fix up and keep, and a 56 cm frame that is too short and much too nice for me to keep. The shorter one will probably be restored to more original equipment and sold. At some point the rear wheel and derailleur was swapped out for Suntours, which is out of place on a bike such as this. I'll be looking for some help from fellow C&Vers for the restoration project. $250 for the pair (with a Brooks B15 each - now I've got 3 of those), which wasn't the best deal, but for a pair of double-butted full 531 bikes, I don't think I did too bad. http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/t...e/IMGP1254.jpg http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/t...e/IMGP1271.jpg |

"Is that a Nitto dirt drop stem?" That might put you in a nice upright riding position. Looks like 2 water bottle cages, "one above" and "one below" on the the down tube. That bar end mounted mirror is pretty nice to have when commuting or touring. Triple chain ring! What's that below the DT shifters? Tire levers?? |
'73 Schwinn Sports Tourer
I snagged this off Craigslist over the weekend for $50. It's a 26" frame, perfect for my 6'2" height. Everything looks original except for the saddle and tires of course. Overall condition is pretty good, just some paint chips and scratches.

Bought this Univega Viva Sport for $7.99 at a thrift store about a year and a half ago......just pulled it out of it's dusty corner for a potential sale. This past weekend I picked up a Raleigh mixte and a Fuji Palisade in great shape at a community wide garage sale. I'll try and get some pics up this afternoon.

i'll double your money on the Viva Sport!.....lol

I got this Schiwinn Suburban off of ebay for thirty dollars with local pickup. It's in really really nice shape overall, the paint and decals look fantastic. I complelty rebuilt it over a two week period, today I put brake cables and a chain on it. So far I love it, I just wish it was a smidge larger (It still may bump my collegiate) I need to take new pictures in the evening, it was too sunny at noon. I'll probably put solid black tires on it if I keep it, If not it will probably end up with a coworker.

Here's one of my recent additions to the mix...A mid '70s Windsor Carrera Sport...cool chrome lugs at the head tube, pretty wide range gearing (almost a '70s version of a compact double, if I can juxtapose such opposites of vintage) with nice features like Suntour bar end shifters and aluminum rims....28 pounds of well-seasoned, but perfectly functional vintage fun.

Trek 620 touring frame with fork, wheels, seatpost, headset and a few various parts. Non-original finish and no decals but I'm pretty confident of the ID after using the excellent Vintage-Trek.com site. I'm probably trashing the wheels as they're pretty rough looking and the HelicoMatic system is hoplelessly obsolete. The frame will end up on eBay as that was the only way my wife would let me bring it home. :)
Pics to come.. |

Recently acquired / salvaged by complete newbie (me). I don't really know where to start.
So far as I can tell by trolling the forum, it's a early- / mid-50s Monark middle-weight girls' balloon tire in awfully rough shape. Everything still moves freely, if that counts for anything. (See pics.) I don't see anyplace a "tank" could be mounted, but there are holes for something on the front fender. I guess what I'm curious about is, A) What is it, B) is it worth restoring, or C) should I just rob the spring front end for the new bike I recently motorized? http://vincentalan.com/bikes/100_0061a.jpghttp://vincentalan.com/bikes/100_0062a.jpghttp://vincentalan.com/bikes/100_0063a.jpghttp://vincentalan.com/bikes/100_0064a.jpghttp://vincentalan.com/bikes/100_0065a.jpghttp://vincentalan.com/bikes/100_0066a.jpg |
Put the Monark in an OXYLIC ACID (wood bleach) bath for a day or so and see if the rust goes away.

Picked up a group of RX100 8 speed components today. I needed the wheels for one project. I may just swap them out with the mystery Miyata I have as it has a mishmash of components. Seller ended up throwing in the bike the components came from. Its an aluminum frame 1994 Trek 1400 with a fatal flaw: broken ear on the seat post frame clamp. Doubt it it can be fixed, we'll see.
Typical Craigs List misc components pricing. |

Typical Craigs List misc components pricing. Any chance you can grind the ears off and put a clamp on it or is it below the top tube? |
Thank you, cycleheimer! I would never have thought of that.
|
Unfortunately, seat tube does not extend past the top tube. Beautiful frame, but I think it is trash.
FWIW: the wheels on the mystery Miyata will go onto the Centurion mixte I am building up for my wife. If she liked brifters, I would put the 8 speed stuff on it, but she doesn't. So I will put some decent Suntour stuff on the mixte (at least that is the plan right now). |
