Raleigh "Super Course"...

Managed to find a beautiful 1977(?) Raleigh "Super Course" this weekend and, of course, the Super Course is too big for me. The bike is in great shape and has obviously seen very little use. At least it won't be going to the Dump. And at another Yard Sale, a bit of this and that produced this nice smaller frame Concorde "Europa". Yep, it don't fittin me either.

It is a 57 and I am most comfy on a 58.5 so yeah, pretty much. The saddle is not going to stay that high. It might have not been clear in my first post but it was a frame/fork with those nice parts on it, not a complete bike. Still, I am very happy :)

new acquisitions

Not really considered the catch of the day, but I just enjoy buying/collecting road bikes from years past. 1st one was purchased this weekend, Trek 400 series touring model, alll original with little use. 2nd one is a early 70's Doniselli with campagnolo already torn apart to be cleaned up, it was much of a mess. Last is a Trek 330, reynolds 531 I have been working on for the past few months.

I'd like to see more of that Doniselli, never heard of that one but thats how a cycle should look, no silly braze ons and pretty looking lug work!

Very similar to my Raleigh Marathon. Mid 80s, when Raleigh of America was really Huffy licensing the name and importing bikes from Taiwan and Japan. Yours is a lower model (like my Marathon). I have the same derailleurs and they work flawlessly.

Search around in here for a blue and silver Raleigh with 502 tubing. I thought maybe it was a Record (same colors) but the Record didn't use 502 tubes. Still... maybe it's a Record.

A bit of catch and release, what I think is a '70's Raleigh Sprite 5-speed. I was checking out some guys discard bikes on the curb when he comes out and offers me this Raleigh, but in a couple of pieces, for free! It's now outfitted with a Wald front basket and 20t SS freewheel. The original drivetrain was a nightmare so it had to go. It's now being piloted around Vancouver by a friend of mine, released back into it's natural habitat to roam free once again.

Does anyone know where that scan is that has the Raleigh serial numbers decoded on it? I've searched, but come up dry. It's serial is ND 5220155

They were an old catch but I finally out them to use on my hybrid and don't know why I waited as the Avids were making me nuts.

NOS XTR canti brakes...they look just like this.

And I only paid $10.00 Cdn for them. :D

i answered a Freecycle post for 4 bikes in my area. never heard back from the loser. then, 2 weeks later i get an email from my friend Helen. turns out it was her all along! so this is what she gave me:

http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...l/IMG_4248.jpg
http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/f...l/IMG_4247.jpg

first one is a Puch, second is a Fuji Supreme, third a Motobecane Mixte, last a Gary Fisher Marlin. Hmmm, a MTB named after a fish? i was hoping the fuji would fit me, but alas--a bit too small. and the Puch is too big. hope i don't have to throw the Marlin back.

everything looks reparable, but it's all in pretty rough shape.

EDIT: sorry about the small pics and the left-side view. i did everything wrong there...ff

I finally have pictures of the Schwinn Traveler the guy gave me a few weeks ago. This isn't the way I received it, of course... front wheel was tacoed, tires were trashed, etc.

Yes, that IS Kenny attached to the front of the bike. He's been with me, on various bikes, for 10 years.

Wheels are a new set of Shimano R500s I had laying around. Tires are Conti Ultras. Rear derailleur was a Light Action, now it's a 105. Cranks and pedals are original, as are the brakes and front derailleur. Handlebar is a Ritchey, brake levers are Tektro. Dura-Ace 8 speed bar end shifters, and an 8 speed MTB cassette. The saddle is the one that came on my Masi Commuter (that I'm selling....the frame/fork, not the saddle). You'll notice it also has tiny little fenders on it. I had to use them on something.... lol. This will be my rain/crappy weather bike.

I guess I'm going to be the Schwinn Traveler Guy....
picked this up at a yard sale on my way home tonight. The woman looked a little hesitant to open the door to a shady looking guy at 8:15 in the evening, but I'm glad she did. Not sure of the year, but it's newer than the other one. 7 speed 300EX components, Cro-Mo, actual DT shifter bosses, etc. Has the cool triangular Shimano pedals. Plastic cages are broken, of course. And, there's a big ole U-Lock on the frame that she doesn't have a key for. Yay! lol.
Cost....$20.

83 schwinn traveler

found this the other day for $80 (and an EXCELLENT free spirit for my lady friend for $100). in LA bikes are are on the higher end of pricing (from what i can tell). anywho, got this one and with about 10 minutes of tweaking, was ready to ride (although, not too far as it still had the original tires from 83!). so, new tires, tubes, etc, new seat, and new grip tape. removed the "decals" as they were pretty jacked...and here she is. tis the summer...

cheers,
lauren

Today my buddy dropped this neat little folder off, i'm guessing it's an older one not sure much about the brand road king but it does look nice.

Hit a few garage sales driving back from lunch today and picked up a very nice 1985 or 86 Bridgestone T-500. Dia-compe canti-brakes, Suntour ARx drive train, eyelets for racks and fenders front and back and a old style touring triple up front. The frame is a bit larger than what I would normally ride, but I aired up the tires when I got home and took a quick couple of mile ride and I really like the bike.

I will post some pictures tomorrow.

I got this one last week for $5.00. My first real find, and it's in my size! Pictured as found.

I picked up this mid-80s Nishiki Blazer rigid mtb. Equipped with a suntour accushift x2000 rear index derailleur, any good? All original components. Its got road tires on it so its a very smooth ride, it rivals my bridgestone roadie in comfort & smoothness actually. Another to add to a growing stable of bikes.

With Rosie the Pug showcasing it...

Also saved some throw-out parts from their land-fill future. Alot of these parts I couldnt pass up, since im restoring some bikes its nice to have some spare parts laying around. A shimano deore xt rear derailleur, shimano flight deck computer w/cut wires but the unit still works, shimano 6-speed cassette, old cruiser pedals, old mtb stem, cables that look fairly new with some black housings, shimano chain, and the black round screw on piece (i dunno what it goes to yet, maybe a hub?).

levers and white tape looks really good. Just flipped one to first buyer for 150$

Scored this Trek 1000 walking down the street tuesday afternoon. A guy in a sweater was wheeling it down the sidewalk, I gave him a "Nice Bike." he told me it was for sale, took it around the block and it was nice and crisp index shifting, newer cassette and rear derailleur, wheels true, one tire bad, one great, everything good. Probably clean it up and flip it. I gave 70$ which I think I can easily recoup.

Awesome looking bike, love the color. :o

Suntour was king until indexed shifting came along; they never quite figured it out.
