Yeah i'll try to take some pictures as soon as I have access to a camera.
Recently I forgot how to use commas and she tried to buy a bike 4 inches too big.
She's kinda hard headed. I just told her to sit back and let me find the right
one on craigslist and we ended up with a 2fer!

The bikes are made with Columbus Tenax Tubing and I forgot to mention the sweet Italian frame pumps that also came on them...

Hey I'm in Atlanta and I saw these listed. But I thought she described them as something different than Paramounts. Amazing stuff.

yeah the title of the listing was somthing like "2 Shwinn Champion Road Master"
i think i looked over it the night before and then looked at the pic in the morning
saw downtube shifters and had called her and was on the road in like 15 mins.

They dont look like Paramounts of that year....

More like a Prelude/Tempo/Circuit look to them.

Should be made of Columbus Tenax tubes.

I'm not able to see the pictures too well, but it looks like it's a lugged mixed metal bike. The 3 main tubes may be aluminum with steel stays and forks. Take a magnet to each tube to see. Is there a model name on the frame anywhere? Maybe a serial number?

Looks like a sweet score though with the 105 gourpo :thumb:

Just got back from picking up two off CL. Ad had this fuzzy picture that I included below. and simply stated "Bicycles for sale $25 and up. All kinds of bikes ready to go." It was posted at 3am. I could see the bars of two older road bikes but I figured one of the other nuts in my area would have surely beat me to these if they were any good. Called any way. Nice lady and she starts reading off Huffy MTB $65, another Huffy $60 old Trek 55 old Raleigh $45." So out of my mouth came "When can I come see the bikes?"

So we talked a bit I told her a little bit about the bikes and tried to date them as best I could. Guessed the Trek to be a 84 as it has the same ARX RD as my wifes Mixte. Guessed the Raliegh to be between 85 and 88.

I was going to offer her $60 for the pair but ended up offering her $80 and she took it. Little more then I usualy like to pay for bikes but both were interesting mid line bikes.

These were her dad's and he just doesn't ride anymore being in his late 60's. The grand kids had been messing with them I suspect as they have some scratches here and there, seats are beat up bad but ride able. Tires are better then I expected and seem to hold air at least for a quick lap but I think they may be original to the bikes so I am not sure I trust them. The Trek has Trek tires.

Put them in separate posts becasue I have some questions on one of them.
#1 is the Trek.

According to the SN chart on Vintage Trek it is a 1983 Trek 500 but the parts on it say 520. Both bikes were available in the same colors and same Reynolds 501 Double butted frame with the same geometry. The difference is Triple cranks and a Helicomatic on the 520 and this has those. I need to see what the deal is with the chain. It is way too loose on the small ring. Hope that it has the correct RD for a tripple. Wheels are true but a little bit of corrosion on the spokes. It has some chips here and there but I think this will clean up decent.

Sweet deal is it is a 22.5 inch frame and that is my optimum size. :thumb:

Bike #2. Is a mid 80's Raleigh Technium with Aluminum main tubes bonded to steel lugs.

I'm at a loss on this one. The parts dont match and I'm not finding much info as to what it is.


It has Suntour freehub, 105 SG Cranks and 105 shifters but Light actions SIS RD and a FZ206 FD, Cinelli stem and weired wrap around bars. I think the wheels are original. :lol:

Somebody came at it with some spary paint on the seat stay and top tube, got then brake, tire and rim in the process . I think I can clean it up without loosing the logo's. Rides ok but that stem has HUGE reach.
It has a really high BB like it is a Cyclocross bike.

If anybody could fill me in on this bike and point me to some sites that I can find catalogs that would tell me what it is supose to have I would appreciate it. :)

Sorry, forgot to mention. It's a Giant Cadex 980c. Obviously first years of carbon. I'm thinking early 90's.

My first Azuki! Seems fairly nice for commuting, Shimano 600 RD. Nothing special but it looks nice!

I found this Robin Hood on garbage day. Nothing to get real excited over but 3 days of cleaning and a new cable and shes ready to go.Decals are in excellent condition and cleaned up nice.

Regarding that Trek and Raleigh Technium in the Atlanta burbs, I called that same nice lady at 8 AM and she told me she was on the East - West Connector in West Cobb. I was headed to work in the other direction. She couldn't tell me anything about the bikes but would call me back. She called at 3 PM and told me they were Huffys. Never said anything about the road bikes being a Trek and a Raleigh. Just beats the hell outta me.

They were nicer huffy's that she had and in fact they were some of the nicest huffy MTB's I have seen. Didn't know they made bikes on that level but....they were Huffy's and the no box store MTB flip rule was in effect. LOL.

She was a real sweet heart and I think she was about to cry about selling them being her dads. Thats why I didn't offer less. I promised to clean them up and make sure that where ever they ended up that they would be appreciated.

One of the guys I work with is getting into riding. Just sold him my 89 SR600 for the Silver comet. His buddies want to replace their Hybrids and MTB's now because they can't keep up. One guy is shorter and would have fit the 54cm Trek 360 I flipped a couple weeks ago. The other guy is about 6ft and would fit these. I'm torn though...Wanting a play bike and these are both interesting. Have a old Worldsport I was going to mess with but now I think it is going to get a quick clean up and resale. I'm warming to the 520. May ride it to work Monday if I don't take it out this weekend. With it being complete I don't want to part it but I do have the correct parts on the wife's Mixte to make it back into a 500 and get her the triples and long cage ARX.

The Raleigh being mixed parts I would not feel bad throwing this set of 700x23 C rims and tires I got in the shop to throw on the Schwinn and making it a single speed. Just need to make sure it is not anything sought after or just be sure not to loose any of the parts to put it back stock.

My father was going to buy this from our neighbors, but they just gave it to him....then he gave it to me:)

Just a FYI it is better to shoot the drive side (gear) of the bike. We like seeing the parts that are on the bike. ;)

Have you dated the bike yet?
If you read the SN it works like this: My SN as an example R81026XXXXXX

R is a given. The second and sixth digit is the year so in this case my bike is a 86.

The Three digits between the year is the day of the year it was built so my bike was built the 102nd day of 1986.

The rest of the digits is the sequential searial number for the year.

Thanks for that info, I just got a Technium also. Thanks to you, I will finally be able to tell what year it is. In all my searches on this forum and googles, I have not seen any like mine. It is a prestige, black and silver with teal stripes between the main colors. Pics soon hopefully.

I picked up a Raleigh Gran Sport, early 1960's. Campagnolo GS derailleurs and shifters, bike all original and straight, but a bit rough. Still has the Brooks B17 Swallow in decent shape.

Broke my vow of no more cottered cranks, now I need to borrow redxj's cotter press, again.

Thank you for that info about the date Grim... I've been trying to date it on and off since I got it...I also changed the pic to the drive side (thanks for that tip too).

1969 Phillips Master Model w Sturmey Archer 3-speed.
really crappy flea market - this bike was being used to prop up other bikes.
i probably could have negotiated DOWN from $20...but i was in a hurry.

she was mud caked and non descript.
i hosed her off and this is what i found.
(the chain is off because i had to take the rear tire off to get her in the truck)

I can't believe her Dunlop tires look brand new and hold air.
a few hours on the bike stand and she will purr.
i'm starting to think all bikes should be black.
