I'm glad you didn't let aesthetics get in the way, then. So from now on, no more talke of BUTT UGLY or FUNKY. From now on, this bike shall be referred to as "distinctively styled." :thumb:

Thanks TT! I really enjoyed riding it a mile or so today, lol. That's about how far I got before I got a flat on the rear tire. I was only two miles from the bike shop, so I walked it over and got a new tube. Seemed like 85* and 100% humidity, so I stopped and drank a bunch of iced tea with some good Mexican food.:D

Picked this little gem up this morning at the flea market for $60. FULL Deore DX, so I didn't even bother talking him down. Looks like a total garage queen, all the alloy bits are still shiny as new. It has the thickest headtube and stem I've ever seen this side of a threadless headset. The stem is full thickness all the way down(not tapered), and is bigger than 1 1/8 stems. The icing on the cake was a brand new looking Selle San Marco embroidered ERA saddle. It was already installed on my Trek 1200 when I took the picture, hehe. The wheels went onto my Trek 990, DX hubs and Araya RM20's. The DX Derailleurs will probably go on the 520. So far, everything on it is going onto Treks. The ony component in the equation that's coming off a Trek is going onto something else. The RD on the 520 is a silver Deore that matches the broken one on the High Sierra. Confused yet?? So am I, lol.,,,,BD

Early nineties Yokota Yosemite, by my best guess? Also the highest end Yokota I've seen yet....

yeah, my bad, I thought the headbadge was a Pinarello, I didn't enlarge it. It is a nice Bianchi.

What I didn't catch?

A nice old Bottechia Mixtie. Looked to be a higher end model( DT shifters and forged dropouts)

I called them this morning, said a guy was coming to look at it, but to call back. Called back an hour later, said the guy still hadn't shown, he would call me back in a couple hours. Called after 2 1/2 hours, said the guy never showed, but some other lady called just a few minutes before me and was on her way. It was $15.

Next time just go over to their house, tell them you are buyer number 1, and purchase the bike.

I would have if I had the address. I don't mind if I'm not first in line, that happens, but when someone tells you they will call if the first in line doesn't show, then blows you off for some other buyer, thats just plain rude.

three good finds this weekend
mid nineties bianchi osprey. picked up up for 15 bucks on craigslist. needed to replace the rear shifter, which i found at the sports recyclers for 10 bucks. pretty sweet bike.
http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/9...nchiosprey.jpg

Schwinn suburban for 30 bucks. kind of a marginal deal since it needed new tires and a new chain. the rear derailleur is driving me up the wall as well. i always thought that whole thing about the chain and the chain ring becoming inseperable was a bunch of c&v romantic blah. i see know that i am wrong.

and a fuji roadbike for 10 which i havnt been able to work on yet. i think the seat post is pretty welded in there. anyone had any luck using ammonia to break up aluminum oxide?

Wow! That's among the tallest frames I have ever seen.

Looks like the 69cm Panasonic I'm trying to get rid of.

I haven't taken time to do that much research yet, but I did find some info else where in the forum.

Well, yes there's that, I found that before I went to get the bike. That's what convinced me to get it.

Yep...+ 20 degree weather to sit in for about 45 minutes. A commercial freezer and a touch of ammonia would be great. In fact, I've had luck with just the temperature & no ammonia on one stuck post.

Behind my work I found this Black road bike with handle bars that are from a mountain bike, It looks like a nice road bike, anyone know the name? then when I got home these other two where waiting for me.

My guess its a trek from the seat collar bolt, but im probably wrong, whatever it is (was) looks like it hit a wall/tree/car head on pretty hard, ouch! Im interested in that crankset if its up for grabs however!

HSean 05-04-09 07:42 PM

I don't think it hit anything, it's just the wire goes in the frame so it's pushed in making it loook fishy lol

sonatageek 05-04-09 08:08 PM

Well it is not vintage, but it is a classic style touring bike -- Picked up a left over 2008 Fuji Touring bike from Performance, marked down to $599 and then I had a 10% off coupon. so $539 plus tax. Bought the Performance Club card, so another $28 in store credit for later this year.

I have been looking and thinking about getting a new touring bike over the past year, and could have spent a lot more, but am a big fan of good quality and a great deal. Haven't had a chance to take a real ride yet, but a quick spin around my neighborhood indicates I am going to really like this bike.

New bike purchase made possible by flipping bikes (for the money) and finding out Performance possibly had left over stock from BF member Halfbent on Sunday's Ohio BF/CV ride.

Now weren't you recently bemoaning the lack of good deals in your area? I believe you can retire that complaint. :)

Seriously, nice find!

Heh, I think you will be pleasantly surprised...search for threads with 'Medici' in the title, there was a new thread just the other day and th consensus was that they are awesome bikes. Especially if they are in perfect shape, outfitted with Campy Record and only $75!
