I'm still confused about Centurion's and Nishiki's. I have a Nishiki Olympic and can't find a lot about it other then they existed. But when I use to live in Santa Barbara CA, Hendricks bike shop carried both of those bike brands, but supposedly they were sold only in retail stores according to web searching I did. So I'm wondering if Centurion and Nishiki had one line of models for retail stores and another (perhaps higher level models?) for LBS's?

Bike shops are "retail stores".. do you mean "big box" or department stores? i think i heard nishiki did sell some of their lower end bikes in department stores but i dont think centurion did

My find today wasn't in the best of shape. Most of you probably would walk away from it. But I couldn't. It's an odd ball mtb, unconventional frame. Kind of a poor man's Panasonic MC Comp.
No idea of its year. Company is Titan Cycles, it's a High Country 500-LX. It's Taiwanese made, and there's a sticker indicating Chrome-Moly main tubes. It has Shimano (Exage?) 500 LX components, with a rear aluminum Exage U brake, 7 speed HG cassette, and the chainrings are aluminum.
Onlly problems are the stuck seat post (what is it lately with my finds? Stuck posts!)
and rusty scratches covering a lot of the frame. It'll need a repaint.
Stuck seat post aside, it was too funky to leave behind. At least I talked the seller down to $15.
Tear down commenced.

Couldn't find anything on this model anywhere, only of another one being sold in CA. Here's a pic from that ad, of how one looks like....

Doesn't look like there is much post left in the frame.

That photo is from the only one I could find online. It's from an identical bike being sold in CA.
My post is 2/3 of the way inserted. Will get a pic up of mine later, need to find the camera.

edit:

Here's a pic of the frame. The purple/green/white marble paint is cool, but it's coming off. Lots of rusty scratches that need addressing. The post managed to twist 90 degrees, so there's hope for it.
The Panasonic MC Comp wasn't a lightweight, therefore this one weighs in even more. I measured the top tube and it's 56cm. So, given both, I think this will become a road going bike, not back to a mtb.

Update:
The seat post's top portion was turning only! #$%#$^@#$!
I had to drill a hole through the top of the post and bolt the two parts together. Several big grunting twists later, it rotated and slowly pulled out. Yay!

I recalled these types of frames are called E-stays. Always thought they looked cool. Now I have one in my keeper fleet.

I mean't big box stores. A web search I did said both brands were only sold in big box stores, not in LBS's.

I really dig that Renegade looks like a great ride, nice tall frame and bull moose bars to boot. All the MTB's I find are low level or are for midgets.

I can't find much on it either. Internet searches provided a few 'for sale' ads in Canada. Im guessing it was a Canadian company? I bought it for commuting & utility purposes. My third vintage MTB in two months so yeah I'm on a bit of a 26" utility bike kick lol. Next may be a 650b bike. This way ill have all three 650 sizes in my stable....a,b&c :-)

This week's harvest: two Jan Janssen's.

Wednesday: a "Tour de France", with "220 high quality super tubes". Don't know what that is, but I like the lugwork and the blue suede saddle, not to mention the translucent blue Shimano cable housing.

Thursday: an "adamas ax" with a surprising mix of adamas and 600 ax parts, and everything else aero as well.

It was a nice week.

This sat on CL for about three days, I'm not sure why...

I responded on the second day, and got a reply from the seller on the third day. I had some questions, and Thrifty Bill was nice enough to help me out with them.

82 or 83 Miyata 1000. I acquired it from the original owner.

A friend of mine found this Giant Acapulco in a dumpster.

It wasn't technically free: I bought her a coffee and a slice of carrot cake at the local coffee shop for it. All it needed was a set of pedals and a chain.

Check out the exotic tubing.

Great find, and the original racks make it even better! Can't believe someone else didn't scoop it.

One thing I have found around here that above about $200, vintage bikes don't move that fast. But that is in Hooterville. So some of the "best" deals are vintage bikes in the $300 to $400 range.

Even in my market much past 250 will really reduce the "impulse buyers", though i doubt the miyata 1000 would have lasted long

Peugot from the scrap yard

Picked up this Peugot from the local scrap yard today, along with a few mtb parts, for $5.00. The frame is marked "Carbolite," which I'm assuming is some sort of carbon steel. It has Suntour derailleurs, Wolber alloy rims, and the paint is very nice. Is this a project for flipping? Frame is too small for me, it doesn't appear to be a high-end bike, and it needs a bottom bracket, crank, and chain (which shouldn't run more than $25-30). I'm just not sure if I should put the work into it. Is it desireable? Sellable?

Just around a few corners from my house I found a scene from hoarders. Was driving home and happened to notice this old garage door open, and thought I saw a bike frame. Swung the car around and peaked in and saw that amongst the piles of junk, old wheels, old tires, old motorcycle wheels/tires, lawnmowers and general trash was about 20 bikes.

I asked the guy out side if any were sale. After a bit of thinking, and a lot of digging, and no haggling because he was pretty stead fast on his price, this is what I got.

Schwinn Traveller and a 1992 Trek 850 Antelope

Trek 700 Multitrack (frame is trash due to seized seatpost) and a GT Tequesta single speed conversion

70's Raleigh/Carlton Corsair 10spd and another Trek 700 Multitrack

I also got him to throw in a few 27" wheels I dug for, and tires as well

Whole lot cost me $170. If you know any info on these bikes, please do share.
Hopefully will be able to flip these for a profit.

That GT frame is big for a mountain bike you might try just selling it as a frame first. I think you did alright at about $30 a bike.

Well, I didn't find this 1978 Beekay three wheeler at the dump, but I did get if for nothing.

The tricycle was used two times and for very short jaunts. The lady who owned the three wheeler did not like it. With that in mind, her husband hung it upside down in his garage. Thirty three years passed and two days ago, he took the trike down and donated it to Bicycles for Humanity. I love my job!

The bike will join the last three wheeler we received, a near mint E-Z-Roll.

Oh, I almost forgot about the Beekay's tires. They are in great shape and original issue. Have a look...

It's in nice condition! But it's entry level. So, your return won't be as high as if it's a more desirable Peugeot.
But at 5 bucks, even with the cost of a used crank and BB, plus a new chain, you should be able to at least double your investment.
