Finally managed to find some reasonably priced family bikes in PHX CL this weekend.
First is an early 90s Sherpa Trail Dorado MTB. Well kept and had Shimano SPD pedals. Owner claims it's the identical frame to the Specialized Hard Rock/Rock Hopper?, made by the same OEM. Tange MTB tubing throughout. Got it for $30.
Next was an all-or-nothing group buy. A Giant MTB of unknown vintage because of a repaint, but decent quality....an early 80s Ross Diamond Cruiser w/ blue anodized parts, and a cheapo Roadmaster MTB. All for $40. 2 out of 3 isn't bad. They'll all get overhauled once I return. Now the family once again has rides and the kids are happy.

Honorable mention: The misses managed to grab an expensive BMX bike at a garage sale. End of the day and the seller said everything will be let go for $1 each. She pointed to the BMX, and he hesitantly gave it up. :D
I don't know much about BMX, but from the pic, the components and frame don't look cheap.

Went and picked up the Campagnolo and other bike parts from the person who sold me the two Falcon Eddy Merckx last year. There are a lot of small pieces parts that I am not sure of, but many larger items that even I recognize. NR RD that came off the Falcon's (and will be going back on them), 2 sets of leather bar wrap, vintage toe clips, new Bullseye sealed bearing pulleys, Campy bearings and grease, 2 NR head sets etc.

Raleigh Sports update. LOVE this bike. I may have a line on an old brown B.17 locally. It will replace the about to rip in two original saddle. Yeah it has dings but it still looks pretty good for a 71 model that didn't receive a whole lot of care.,,,,BD

The women raised the price a bit when I showed up. After she pulled all of the little drawers out and had everything on display, she looked up a few items on e-bay. It was still a good deal, and I know that she was okay selling for that price (I let her set the price -- I didn't even make a suggestion). I assume she did the mental math and it was not worth her time to sell the stuff off one by one.

I guess I need to find some better dumpsters! :o
I came across a 'Pacific Deuce' aluminum frame mountain bike. Didn't look bad from 20' away. Once I got it into my shop :notamused: it weren't purdy. This thing had a hard life. No matter what I did to the front tube and tire the tube pushes the tire past the rim, both derailers were roached. Chain shot. All the bearings were dry. Front forks (compression type) are crapped out. Back wheel has serious curb impact damage. I pulled the front derailer, all the derailer cables and grip shifters off and changed out the wheels/tires with some other cheap ones I had, regreased everything. I have the back derailer wired for the middle cog. The chain set on the middle crank sprocket. (The axles and cranks are heavy built) Regreased everything. The crankset rides kinda pigeon-toed. Once I finish it will be a gift to a kid up the street.

Peugeot PFN10. I think it's an 83 or 84. Not too sure yet. It needs some work including a new crankset. The drive side arm has a badly stripped pedal thread that looks beyond repair. Anywoo, here are the pics. Notice the shiny chromed fork. Pretty. :)

My palms are sweating. The Thrift Store up the street has a 80's Schwinn World Traveler and another Schwinn that looks like late 70's and I think its a sport that haven't made it to the floor yet. Bought need a LOT of clean up. The WT has a dyno lite rig on it.
Couldn't sweet talk the manager into pricing them while I was there an hour ago. :( Headed back there now.

I saw that on York CL and sent my brother after it. He does a lot of local travel for work but you beat him to it!:notamused:;) Nice score. If only there was a nice old French crankset to go with it...:innocent:

That right there is why you don't let stupid people work on bikes. Good bike shop can fix the cranks with a helicoil. Looks really nice other then that.

Ok I got the better of the two Schwinn's home. Its a 25" Lugged World Sport 12 speed. I still need to run down the date codes (got a link for the 80's bikes?) but looks to be about an 85.

Generator looks to be bad but The lights look ok. I think I have a good generator in a box somewhere. Rims seem straight but this poor thing has been sitting somewhere humid for a very long time. I have a lot of surface rust on the bright work. Some touch up paint on the top tube. Sugino cranks, 27 inch Ayara rims. Shimano SIS derailers.
THe Free hub is feeling bad. I have been looking for a bike to make a single speed out of....this may be the one. Don't worry I wont be grinding off brazeon's. Just taking off the shifters and freehub, redish the wheel with a 16tooth and pulling off a ring. $13 is what I gave for it.

The other Schwinn is a Varsity that looks to be late 70's. Hopefully I can get that one tomorrow. My name is on it as interested. steel rims with some rust but it is complete. I figure $8 is what I will give for it.

I also picked up a Huffy Stone Mountain. It just needs a little cleaning. Has good tires and everything appears to work Just needs a little lube work. Boss asked me to look for a bike for his wife so I'll give him first shot and let him have it for the $10 I paid for it.

I think I know somebody with a nice French crankset that will fit the bill. :D

I had heard that there isn't a heli-coli for english pedal threads. This is good news. I'll see if my LBS can do a repair. If not, I know where to get a nice replacement crankset. :)

I like that mixte very much! Especially how complete it still is. I bought a '75 Peugeot mixte a couple of weeks ago, but the original wheels and derailleurs were missing or shot. Surprisingly, it was a 56cm and fits me very well. I turned it into a single-speed with 700 wheels. A total kick to ride.

I bought an old Flying O ladies bike today. It's missing the headlight, but the tank and rear rack are both still on it. Despite having set for decades, the tubes aired right up and I was able to take it for a quick test ride. I left my camera at the shop, so pics will have to wait til tomorrow. It's a pretty cool bike though. I gave $11:eek: for it, making it my third most expensive bike ever...

I also got two 70s/80s? flying o 10 speeds for $1, but they're destined to be donor bikes. They're incredibly heavy, so I'm not going to even consider fixing them.
