Pink Bianchi, free... I remembered a road bike hanging outside someones house for a couple of years decided to finally knock on the door and ask about it buying it, guy said take it. I was thrilled 'till I noticed it was too small for me! Always wanted a manly pink bike.

1981 Schwinn Traveler, nice orange color. Low end bike for sure. Typical thrift store price. The components on this bike definitely did not meet my minimum standards, but my inventory has been dropping lately. Will take a pic later.

Here's a picture after cleanup, with the addition of alloy rims that I had in the workshop. The bike cleaned up pretty nicely.

So I found this Performance Tourer at a neighbors.

First, when I bought another bike from him, he said he needed to fix it up some so that he could ride it, so I didn't even bother looking closely. However I did tell him that I would gladly help him do some repairs on some of the bikes he has picked up to resell, he is unemployed.

Today I went over to get some pics and info on some bikes that he listing on CL, he's also not IT savvy, and he pulled this out. I tried to talk him into fixing it up and keeping it, as I looked at it and tried to hide the sound of the gears turning in my head.

It looks like a solid frame with 3 bottle mounts, front and rear rack braze ons, horizontal dropouts, barcons and mavic 700c wheels. Its mine when ever I want it, but no price tag yet. Any thoughts?

I just realized that I only put up one pic and said "heres some pics". Oops. Anyway, there's a bike just like this only they repainted(very poorly) it on CL for $120. It's probably the ugliest color I've ever seen though. Nobody wants a hot pink bike with yellow pin stripes.

Oddly enough, that looks VERY similar to a Wheeler 3000 (German brand) touring bike I had a while back? It had the same three bottle mounts, front and rear rack mounts, Seat cluster "lug", and even the color looks similar. Is that bike straight guage Tange MTB tubing with wider sized 700's?,,,,BD

I admit to not picking it over really closely, but yes that would sound right maybe, don't remember too specific info, like frame stickers. There are rotted out 700x38 tires on double walled mavic CXP(?) rims that seem to be 23's or 25's and canti brakes. The 3 mounts seemed common to me on tourers.

I recently looked though a stack of bikes (found one or two that were interesting)at what appeared to be a junk bike salvage yard. There were about fifty bikes simply tossed in a big stack outside. The business was selling all sorts of junk items and the bike stack was in one corner. A large portion was "Magna" and "Roadmaster". A couple of old cruiser bikes and a few vintage 10 speeds were in the pile. $5-25 each.

I found a Campy equiped Maserati with chrome lugs for $5 in a pile like that. I told the guy that it was so rusty that I didn't think I was that interested. He said how about $2, I gladly paid the man $2.14 to cover the tax. It was a good deal even though the chrome flaked off while stripping the paint.

Where was that at? Still lloking for a good set of wheels for the wifes Mixte. I just cant seem to find bikes with good wheels that the rest of the bike is bad enough to part out.

Bought the Mixte for $12 with a screwed up back wheel but good midline Suntour parts.
Looking for good wheels I Find a 87 Georgena Terry Gambit that has maybe 50 miles on it nice bike for $10.
Then I find a Schwinn worldsport with great wheels but low end parts. for $13 but now I want to make it a single speed since it has a free hub.

I just can't find a real junker. :roflmao2:

I guess I should make the Mixte parts and use the better brakes on the WS or upgrade it with the better quality Suntour parts. Sell the Mixtee frame loose or buy some cheap 700's and make a fixed for the wife.

Nice moto!! If it fits you, you will soon find they are VERY nice riders! Mine feels like a much higher end bike. Vitus 172 frame, etc. Lively ride quality, and handles comfortably. The saddle looks a lot
like the one my Moto had on it? Is it adjustable on the nose like a Brooks? Seatpost should be an SR custom with two 13mm nuts inside. They're both my favorite post(inifinitely adjustable) and least favorite(pain in the rear clamping system).

Well, found one today! I was going to go get it this weekend, but the seller wouldn't do half on Paypal and half when I got there. Not sure why. I gave it away a bit in a post I dragged up. This is an odd one, and you definitely don't see them every day!! It's a 1974(I think?) Volkscycle Mark 100. Crane GS RD, Titlist FD, Shimano 333 large flange hubs and bar ends, Dura Ace brakes with turkey levers. SR custom two bolt seatpost. Tension adjustable saddle,(needs reupholstered) Dura Ace double cranks, and Yuko cold forged dropouts. The main tubes sound like a Crane bell:D. The most surprising thing to me, the entire frame is chromed under the paint!? Almost unheard of in the mid seventies, am I right? This is going to be a fun project! All original if possible, and probably shellaced cloth wrap. I am going to try and perform a turkeylevectomy, but I will keep them of course.,,,,BD

Nice find and it's in great shape. Once you have it dialed in, I hope you will post more detailed pictures.

I had that same bike, only blue with yellow tape and housing. Bought new from Performance in March of 85 for $550. It was stolen in the summer of '87.

That white cinelli saddle is sweet looking

I think this might be a catch, it's a Proctor, who seems to be a custom builder from Edmonton. It's pretty beaten, component-wise, but the selection of choice, high-end parts and perfectly functional newer ones makes me think that a rider built this up at one time or another.

$100 asking price. I paid it, as the frame was what I was looking for and seems damn nice.

Gears are going and I'll be using this bike to try out fixed gear a bit. (No Drewing, No Kitten killing, don't worry). Areo bar will go as well, and I'll be putting by 600/open pros on.
