Now to a more "normal" catch. Picked up this Merckx this afternoon, definitely not a garage sale price. We'll have to see how this turns out. First thing that has to go is the black tape/zip tie cable guides...

Hard to call this POS a "catch", but the price was way low, bought it for the crankset and dustcaps, plus the Weinmann calipers. Does have alloy stem and bars.

Its a motorized Ted Williams! Wires running everywhere. Got to see how they attached the rear motor cog to the hub. A Free Spirit with internal routed rear brake, huh? Wild.

Your job is to adjust that reostat (sp?) on the fly.

Did it come with the 1000-foot extension cord Jethro?

I bought it at this garage sale that was at a commune (in town). Its Asheville, need I say more?? This one was missing the battery, wires running everywhere.

Interesting paint job, looks like it was well done from the photos, but the original paint didn't look all that bad either. What model Panasonic was it? Depending on the model the white paint job removed all vintage interest in that bike.

Its a DX-1000. Its hard to tell from that first pic, but Im pretty sure the bike had been laid down on its left side.

I wonder what type of motor that's hanging on there? I saw a youtube video of a better excuted creation using a similar set up with such a motor, and it seemed to have a lot of torque.

The video showed a front chainring attached to a freehub w/ disc brake mounting holes.

I'd like to know more about this one!

PO claimed to have gotten it up to 50MPH. Anything close to that would have been one scary ride. Stopping from that speed would have been treacherous.

My dream is this peach has a flip flop hub, won't know til I pull the rear wheel. Certainly the rear hub does not match the crappy stamped steel front hub. Most likely someone just drilled a couple random holes in the hub and attached that drive sprocket. We'll have to see.

Is the top tube OK? It looks a bit bent in one picture.

I had a lucky find today, matching his 'n hers Raleigh Sports in the garbage. I was riding home and caught them out of the corner of my eye, I wasn't even sure that they were out for pick up but I rang the doorbell and yup, there were going to the dump. They need a bit of work but they already have a home, my sister and her husband fit them each perfectly.

Gee,
I wish people in my neighborhood would throw out Mixtes like that!!!!!! It's like picking up $100 bills!

Nice find and a nice gift to your sister!

No kidding! That was such a find!

Scored a nice little mixte for $20 yesterday. It is a true garage queen, it looks like it was ridden once and then put into the rafters for the next 30 years. It is a perfect fit for my mom, she had a 3-speed Raleigh but this mixte has 5-speeds so is more versatile for her.

edit: don't worry, I have already corrected the rear brake housing, it was just pulled through the frame all the way and just needed a tug at the front to lessen the slack

I am not really sure who made it or sold it originally but judging from the stock parts, it was a fairly low end folder and I have since tweaked out a few things and have found it to be a really enjoyable and rather quick and nimble bike. Replaced the tyres, crank, freewheel, rear derailleur, saddle, and seat post and in doing this knocked 4 pounds off the bike.

Have been riding it all over the city for the past week.

It also has a rather decent fold.

"Look ma, I shrunk the bike!" He-he

Yup, she is loving it and did 5kms on it today----pretty good for a 74 year old. Best part is that I sold her old Raleigh for a quick hundred today ;)

Walked into the Goodwill this afternoon and found this '91 Giant Iguana and figured that $60.00 was not a bad price for a bike that appears to have spent it's life in storage... it even came with the original owners manual still attached to the bars.

Figure it will make for a pretty nice "beater".

MOTOBECANE

After working on production bikes most of the week, it was a nice day to take a break and work on a true classic decorated with precious metal. Could use some help with ID on this one, GR or GJ? Paid 3 Andrew Jackson's for this one, to a DKO who get bikes from apartment cleanout artists. Reynolds 531 frame and fork, Huret Jubilee, Mavic GP4 to Campy Record Hubs, Cinelli stem, Gran Compe side pulls.

Follow the link for more photos.

I picked up this Ted Wojcik MTB today! I'm pretty sure this is the Prolite Comp model from around 1991, the race only version for people 160lbs and under. $50 put a huge smile on my face! Full LX drivetrain except for the mismatched front wheel, built around an American Classic hub. Such a nice addition to my American bike collection! Needs some basic work and the seatpost unstuck, and, some nail polish over some paint rub. Couple small dents on the top tube from the brake levers, but hey, this is an awesome mountain bike at 99.9% off retail

Holy Gee - Reynolds 531 Pro?
Does that fork label say "reemaillage"? (respray) - If so that won't make identification any easier, but it might account for the absence of a model name on the TT and the odd combination of parts (Record hubs with a Huret Jubilee rear derailleur, on an eighties bike with recessed brake mounting bolts :twitchy: ).

Those labels BTW, were only applied to authenticated Reynolds Pro frames.

More and better pictures -(and perhaps its own thread) could shed more light in this, OJ.

Oddjob, what kind of dropouts and fork tips do you have there?

I'm going to guess that a lot of the parts have been swapped, so the frame is the best bet for a positive ID. Nice looking bike; too bad about its mal-treatment. Check out those drillium skewer levers!

1986 Miyata?

Found this in my friends garage after moving in. He said I could have it (minus the rack). I will be fixing it as my brothers first road bike.

Based on the first serial letter O and the badge I was able to narrow it down to 1986? Cant determine which model it is, to determine spec though...

I dont know if those shocks came stock, but they do work with the 700c.

Any help with IDing it, appreciated.

A bit jealous that the too-tall triple-butted Miyata is going to my brother to be honest, but I am sure it will make a great first ride for him.

Those forks look like a rare find. I would hang onto those for dear life at least until you know for sure where they come from?
