Looks like the guy had stored it for a while judging from the dust on the underside of the tubes and tossed it because of the bent rim.

Seriously? Wow. I haven't been able to find a street value on it yet. Other model Lotus bikes of same era but not the "aero" design and components and eliptical tubes I have seen sell for ~$500 at most. If someone knows I would be interested to know as well.

The bike is too small for me. So I do not intend to keep it. I am well with in the Clydesdales category of riders and may well crush the rims on this bike! :( The free spin on the hubs are something I've never seen before. One little push and they spin forever. All the components are free and functional if not a little sticky.

Hi everyone
On saturday I went to the recycling center to get rid of rubbish and saved the bike below.
Apart from a slightly damaged rear rim it only needed air in the tires and a good dusting session.
Thanks to you american fellows I could determine what model and year it was. Here in France there's nothing, nada, niente on our own production, what a shame !
So, according to RetroPeugeot and cyclespeugeot.com it appears to be a 1976 or 1977 cyclotourist PX8L, low/mid level bike with steel crankset and rims, Normandy high flange hubs, Simplex deraillers and shifters, Mafac Racer brakes, Soubitez generator and lights and stainless steel fenders. A touch of luxury is given by the chromed fork.

I'm more into mountain bikes but I couldn't let this one end in the scrap yard. There was another Peugeot trapped under a lot of junk, a white mixte that maybe paired the PX8. I would have take it too but really it was a matter of emptying the bin to get it so there it stayed, to my great sadness.

I nearly bought one of these and have kicked myself for not doing it ever since.
as far as value goes, one on eBay in very clean but original condition recently went for about $650 if I recall. it had the full DA aero group. ax?

Found these on the way home from Burlington. This guy out in the middle of nowhere had a bunch of old 3 speeds and such. These were my favorites;

There's a 1959 Raleigh and a 1951 Phillips (or is it a 51 Raleigh and a 59 Phillips?). It's a pre-Raleigh Phillips so the fenders are kinda different and there's a cast brass emblem on the back fender where there's usually a decal. matches the headbadge..

Tossed it? This was in the garbage? If you can't find a use for it, a used Dura Ace AX group can go for quite a few hundred dollars on eBay. Nice find, too bad about the bent rim.

I know. Makes me heart sick... over a bike. Bikes are just beautiful things especially this one. I have spare Araya rims that match the style of the Araya Aero 1 rims that are on it right now. So I am going to get this up and rolling as soon as I have time to tinker.

It's finds like this that make me glad I have a pickup truck as my daily driver. The rest of the time I try not to think about the price of gas!

It wasn't me though; it was someone on another forum.

One of our local "Bike Kitchens" got a huge donation from someone's backyard-more than they could handle-so they just let them be picked up off the street. This is what I got-could have had more, but a)I didn't want to be greedy and b) we're moving soon, so it's not a good time to stockpile. Anyway:

I'm taking the brake pads and fender off the Trek frame, and then I'm going to free-pile it.

That looks like a 105 Golden arrow derailleur on the Univega mixte, nice!

The camera's battery ran out yesterday after that shot, and I haven't had much chance to look that bike over, but it should clean up pretty well. My wife has already claimed the Schwinn ;)

I have a Mixte that is the same frame as that Univega and I have a Schwinn That is similar to the one you have. I bet the Schwinn weights 10lb more then the Mixte.

I think that a lot of the original parts have been removed from that Univega. The cranks look newer then the frame. That frame I believe came out of the Miyata factory. It probably came with Sugino cranks, Suntour Perfect freehub, Suntour ARX derailleurs and ratchet shifters. Diacompe 500 brakes and levers.

Who did you know?I wonder if I knew them. I was pretty tight with the New Bedford group back then.

Sailor B., yea, I sail but only small boats now, besides rescuing bicycles I have a weakness for Alcort (not AMF!) Sunfish that I find abandoned in yards and barns. Makes bike restoration look easy! And it's a lot easier to store ten bicycles than it is to store ten Sunfish.

Do you sail out of Portland? The name of the woman I knew was Laurie Belisle. Be pretty neat if you know her. I think the Ernestina was berthed in Boston back then. The only skipper I now is Kevin Foley, of the Hindu, out of Provincetown. He came up this year for the Gloucester races.

I agree about the crank on that Univega. It looks like it might be a triple. I'd guess that Univega only put triples on their Gran Turismos in those days. Looks like somebody may have upgraded that one. That bike should clean up into a nice little ride.

I recently scored a old mid eighties Schwinn Traveler that I'm slowly cleaning up for one of my daughters. I've thougth about adding a triple to that as well.

It's worth it for the TA Specialties cranks alone. I foolishly took a hacksaw to a TA triple to cut off the granny, took the big ring teeth to a benchgrinder to make my own bashguard, only to learn later I destroyed a big $ part.:(

The Univega is sporting a triple-a Sakae SX, to be exact. Also Shimano FD & RD. Brakes are original-Dia-Compe 500. Steel wheels; five-speed hub (haven't looked at it yet); the pedals were the ones I had from my Goodwill Centurion. It may be awhile until I get around to this one, but it'll be fun.

A "Trek 520 Touring" appeared on my local craigslist...I was hoping for something lugged, but it ended up being a 1999-2000 model...still a steal at $45.

Needs lots of love. Something weird with the back DR. It had a couple of springs wrapped around it. No clue why - buy they are off now. Fixing to pull it down and start cleaning and inspecting.
