This frame is now in my garage. Hopefully I can do it justice with the build. I got nothing but the bare frame. It will take a lot of old school parts to make it look right. Masterful tig welding, and Campy drops. The head tube and bottom bracket shell are as thin as the frame tubes, and it rings like a bell on any tube you tap with a hard object. Traded a bunch of parts, and the Mongoose BMX bike I picked up in Lake Charles. I will have to take the frame to the bike shop Tuesday and check out the frame weight. From feel alone, it's comparable to a high end steel road bike. DEFINITELY not going to be jumping this bike.:D,,,,BD

So, my turn now :)
Honestly, I would extremely happy to find out, what i got few days ago for 100 bucks. http://s7.postimg.org/b1y0rzgxn/WP_20130823_019.jpg This nice ride has: Tange chromed fork, full Shimano 105 Golden Arrow group (shifters, cranks, hubs, derailleurs), rigida rims, SR pedals, SR laprade seatpost, SR stem, ATAX dropbar, Weinmann brakes+levers, Also I got it with Selle Royal S17 seat, noname bottom bracket and noname headset - changed to Brooks saddle, Campagnolo alu headset and new shimano bb. And main question - frame???? It has nice lugs, gipiemme drop-outs, 26.2 seatpost clamp, english thread.. Should be something nice, but it also came with noname headset, and bb, so... Any ideas? |

No ideas but it is interesting. It's difficult to figure out a model of a bike that was repainted, sometimes a serial number will help which is usually on the bottom of the BB shell, it's probably Italian due to the Gipiemme dropouts, and was probably in a crash and bent the fork so they replaced it with a decent Japanese fork, which is probably why they had to repaint it. It looks like a home paint job due to the heavy outlining of the lugs, typically the outlines are about half that wide. It could be a hidden gem.
Yes, that white outlining also looks quite terrible.. And talking about BB - there was some sort or cheap bb inside, without any numbers of letters. I doubt that hi-end italy frame would be in sale with such bb.. But gipiemme drop-outs and quite nice geometry makes that frame really nice. Also, seatpost diameter is more 26.4-26.6 then 26.2, because this seat post comes out really easily without clamp... |

Yes, of course there is serial number, but it is simple 6 digit number - I doubt that will help to find anything about that frame.

A good friend of mine is a very accomplished back alley treasure scavenger. So, when I told him that I have an interest in vintage bikes, I knew it wouldn't be long before he had something for me. Just got the call. From what I gather, an early 80's Bianchi, with some nice components. Dirty and a tad rusty (it rained recently in AZ), but I think it will clean up well. I even have the correct Rigida wheels!
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-l...0/IMG_8757.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-U...0/IMG_8762.jpg Rigida or Mavic? https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9...0/IMG_8766.jpg You cut the model name off what exactly does it say? What kind of hubs are on the wheels? I think you have an '83 because of the Universal Mod 77(?) brakes? Rigida rims don't sound OEM for a Bianchi of that era but I'll try and look for that later. |

Great find shouls clean up nice. I have seen it rain in Yuma where you could barely see 20ft so I know it rains in AZ.

I have not found anything in a thrift store in over a year. So when I saw this I knew I as buying it, even without the test ride recommended by the attendant.
As I as loading it into the van a guy walks buy and asks if I know what kind of bike it is. When I tell him it's a '87 Trek Po Series, he just mumbles "never mind, I thought you might not know how good it is." http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...psc0874890.jpg |

Yep, it doesn't take long for the vultures to move in. |

^There's nothing wrong with us being the "vultures" if it means we save even one French bike from becoming yet another neon fixie.

Just imagine some homeless guy receiving this Trek and all the talk of it being stolen. You saved some poor chap a lot of abuse...

Thanks, Bianchigirl! The model sticker is "Nuova Racing 12 Vel." (sic). Ofmega hubs. And yes, Universal Mod. 77 brakes.

^ Inspiration! I am hoping it is not too small for my 10 year old son.

Pretty rough looking bird, isn't it?... The condition was utterly bad, and the bike quite expensive for being such a wreck... I was struggling really hard, but hell: You don't see a Rickert from the early 70's with such a nice decal scheme that often... Frame is fully Reynolds 531.
(For all those who don't know: Though not very-well known to international collectors, Rickert was a famous frame builder in Germany, on whose bikes quite many medals have been won at the Olympics, World Championships etc.) ...While I was still struggling, I couldn't help but fall in love with that beautiful light-blue colour... :) http://fstatic1.rennrad-news.de/f/63...-Projekt.jpg?0 ...And that's what she looks like after some minor adjustments... http://fstatic1.rennrad-news.de/f/q4...Rickerta.jpg?0 http://fstatic1.rennrad-news.de/f/i5...ltkugel6.jpg?0 http://fstatic1.rennrad-news.de/f/ya...ltkugel3.jpg?0 |
Nice job Dan.

Great job on the Rickert. Love the blue paint!

Went out early this morning on my mt bike and came home with a trek 330 Elance. Don't know the age of it but I do know that the free wheel seems to be messed up otherwise the bike looks great. After a quick look on the web it seems to be 1987 model. I 'm saying that because the frame has a 531 decal.

Time capsule 1973 Schwinn Sports Tourer. Even has the matching lever covers! Cheap tires must go, along with cables, bearings, etc. I will try to save the original matching blue bar tape. CJxxxx serial number = March 1973.

Found this TREK 560 at my local flea market a few weeks ago. $50 seemed fair.

Pretty nice Bill, TA crank set. The lever things were Schwinn parts. chris
