I thought I would share my story of the bike I picked up the other day, I live in East Tennessee and ride as much as possible. I love to see the same people riding in my community time and time again some even more than I. At work I go out for lunch everyday and always pass the same little shop at the same time and see this old Raleigh in great condition sitting out front. I thought the owner rode to work as this is not a bike store. Everyday rain sleet or snow this bike was under the canopy next to the door. I always admired this persons dedication to the world of cycling. Last week I passed by and couldn't help but notice that the rear tire of this bike was flat. Having been in this situation a time or two myself I thought I would do as any cyclist should do and stop to notify this person his/her bike has a flat tire. I walked into the shop and came to find an older woman behind the counter, I greeted her and told her as a fellow cyclist I felt it my duty to ensure she knew she had a flat. She then proceeded to tell me that she was aware, she has had the bike out in front of the shop for 2 years trying to sell it, every night she puts it up in the shop and every morning places it back out front but nothing, no takers. I told her that I thought the owner rode it every day to work and she laughed, and proceeded to tell me that wasn't the case but If I wanted I could put it to use. For $40 you can have it she said, This bike is like new, the stickers perfect, the paint flawless, the shifters, cables every thing like new. I jumped at the opportunity and took the bike home with me later that day. Although disapointed that the one I had admired in the community turned out to not be a cyclist at all, It inspired me to become this persona. So now I take out my 1985 Raleigh Sportiff in mint condition and ride in conditions I normally would not have hoping to inspire others to ride more.

Picked up a few projects this weekend. First is a 1980 19 inch framed Fuji S12S. A decent bike in a small frame size is an easy seller around here. Picked it up on C/L. Had to move fast. And it will require some work of course.

The second pickup was a Peugeot U08 at a thrift store today. Typical thrift store low price. One odd thing (positively) is that it has the Stronglight 3 piece alloy crankset and a Luxe? RD. Might become a donor for my prior U08 donor.

I "think" the third find this weekend is a Miyata, underneath a repaint and some tacky stickers. I will have to do some sorting out on this one.

That looks like an interesting Miyata. Can you post more pics of it?

Killer score on the UO8 with Stronglight cranks! Really like the shifters on the Miyata too, they look like Simplex?

I am so happy I saved this bike from becoming a lawn or garden ornament last spring... and the old boy was turning heads everywhere we went.

What size is the Nishiki frame? 23"? Or 25"? I have a 25" Oly 12 that I wrecked.... You may have a buyer for the fram if the price is right. Those are pretty good components by the way.

If you part it out, those brake levers look nice, if only for their hoods.

Now is one of those times I wish I had the access to some framebuilding tools.

Pics in a little while.....but? Hit a thrift store and a pawn shop today, and it must have been offroad schwinn day here in Houston. First find is a rough but 100% original "looking" 1977 Schwinn Scrambler Competition model. Fillet brazed CrMo frame sporting the same decal as the SS's. It has the steel small sprocket from the ten speed full size bikes. Large flange front hub, Bendix 76 rear coaster hub. Oakley
grips and KKT trap pedals. S-2 tubular rims, and Schwinn Scrambler LX tires. They hold air, but look like they'd blow out from one hard ride. Pretty dry. I think a restoration is in order! Unless there are people out there that like them this rough? The price you ask? $5.24 out the door, hehe.

Second is an original Schwinn High Sierra, right down to the tires! Deore cranks and derailleurs/shifters. Did they come ith Suntour possibly? Sealed bearing hubs. Suntour Roller Cam brakes, just like my Fuji Sundance. Looks like an 86-87 model, and looks like no name Nitto bars and stem. Super clean aside from a nick or two, and missing a shifter cover. I have them though, so no big deal. Not as huge a deal for $75, but still a steal IMHO. Looks like a lightly ridden garage queen.,,,,BD

Here they are! The HS looks similar to the one in the catalog, but not the same color. This one is a lemon yellow. Tig welded everywhere but the head tube, which is fillet brazed. The rims are also black see through anodized. I also found another interesting feature on this bike. Sealed bearing Joytech hubs and the frame is completely chromed underneath. Nice, but odd seeing as none of it shows through unless through paint chips. The chainstay guard also says Deore SIS equipped, while the one in the catalog says Shimano Deore SIS.,,,,BD

Believe it or not these two wonderful old road bikes were sitting in a junk yard I passed by today. I caught a glimpse of a bike and wondered immediately at the color. The sort of color one might find on an old Raleigh. I stopped in and asked about the bike. To shorten this three or four minute transaction, $20.00 bought me a 1973 Raleigh "International" and an early eighties Peugeot "Sprint", the same model as the one I got last week. Both the Raleigh and the Peugeot are in excellent condition with the Raleigh being so original that it is difficult to believe.

Have a look if I can get the pictures to work right.

The PX10 would be one of the bikes that I would have happily traded the Inter for but I already have a pretty nice 1963 PX10 hanging in The Old Shed. Have a peek...

I have been seeking an early seventies Raleigh "International" for quite some time now and would love to have a 54-56(c-c) frame set. Or even an Italian frame of similar quality with chrome plated lugs. Needless to say, I already have my French bicycle.

I just found this neat 3 speed supercycle in the garbage, who keeps this in awesome shape all these years then decides to throw it out? you turn the handle grip to change speeds lol.

Wow! Amazing finds, a BF dream come true. I shouldn't be shocked but it still amazes me that bikes of that quality find there way to the dump of all places!

Gorgeous PX-10 BTW, looks brand new.

I was half a block ahead of the city dump truck on salvage day this morning. Look what I found:

Too small for me at 19" for the seat tube, but it's a nice, light touring frame.

I also got the front wheel of the Peugeot and the back wheel of the other bike.
