Found by the neighbors garbage can as they were moving out. It has a nice "Free" sign on it. It's a 1986 Schwinn Passage. This is my winter project and I almost have it completed to my liking.

a friend said his neighbor put a Peugeot Carbolite 103 out on the curb. he brought it to me. here's a PIC of what it looked like, but not actually it.
i stripped it down, stripped the paint, powder coated it, and built it up as this kind of hybrid thing.
i also brazed rack bosses on the seat stays, fork, and added a set of bottle bosses.
I'll be adding a near free rack & maybe fenders.
the rear wheel was missing the freewheel, so I used an old wheel I had hanging around - Campy hub! Serious upgrade for this project.

My 91 year young dad has been religious about walking an hour or more a day up until the last 6 months. So he wanted to try a bike to ease up on his knees.
So I haul the small step thru Bridgestone MTB for him form MI to NNJ and set it up in front of the family room TV. Just checked fit and tire drag on the Blackburn trainer with him this morning.
On my way back from Home Depot this afternoon, I spot this in the curbside ROW aka the free zone. So I switch to the big rig and go and fetch this, about 600 feet from their home.
It's not a $2,000 wifi pelotoncycle, but he would get distracted by the lovely Lycra clad trainers and forget what he is doing. @RobbieTunes, they're almost as cute as your favorite Continental Tire spokesmodel.

Got a 20T cog for my 3 speed and
this for my early Dawes Galaxy. GB rando bars. Couple bucks for both items, more like have to charge you something for these old worthless parts.

Bike swap haul. Not shown are two sets of Mavic Reflex tubular rims. Never been laced or glued. One set of silver, and the other in grey anodized. The hippie Cannondale seat bag is my favorite find. The girder stem is going on the Super Sport frame from pastorbob.,,,,BD
I snapped a pic of the rims. Can't wait to use these on a couple of deserving project bikes...

I guess this estate sale find Turin gas pipe (wow, is it heavy!) might qualify as "saved from the dump"...

Yeah, still trying to figure out what I should do there. The lock is an ABUS. The seller didn't know what happened to the key. Not sure which I'll cut, the U-lock or the padlock. One thing going for it, this lock isn't subject to the Bic pen attack.

I picked up an unknown year Selle Italia Flite Genuine Gel saddle which is in mint condition, never used! It has vanox rails so I'm not sure if that helps determine age. I'm thinking mid 90's.

I've got a couple Selle Italia saddles (same shape as yours, but before they were labeled "Flite"). I believe the month and year of manufacture are molded into the plastic shell, underneath, near the back. I wouldn't be surprised if yours is the same. I can take some pictures tomorrow if that might help.

Late 90's Mavic Cosmic Carbone wheels. No idea about the UCI decal - probably put there by the previous owner. If you got them for $70, you stole them - that's cheep. I just picked up a set for $300 to put on my Saturn Team GT. I love them. They ride nice, not to harsh, and once you get them up to speed - they stay there.

Well, dang. I was half right. I have two Selle Italia saddles, one pre-Flite, one Flite, both the same shape though. The pre-Flite saddle does have the month and year (or so I interpret the two numbers) underneath the saddle at the rear on either side of "selle ITALIA," in this case, "09" on the left, "87" on the right:
The other saddle is a Flite. It lacks the month/year numbers, though it still has the little pads where they would have gone:
I notice the Flite also lacks "Made in Italy," it having been obliterated by a little bump of plastic. A little off-shoring going on?

Let me make it clear that I did NOT save this one from the dump...er, metal recycler in Colonial Heights, Virginia. It's my wife's birthday and we had an outing for antiques, lunch, and general goofing off. On the way home from Petersburg we crossed the river and spotted this instantly in a tangle of metal on a recycler's lot. '80s Bianchi Strada from the Bicycle Pro Shop in Georgetown in D.C., one of Mel Pinto's old retail locations. It's just a basic lightweight and could be saved but it was not in the cards today. If it had been my size I'd have lobbied to bring it home. Putting this out there for someone nearby who might want it.
