Trek 1000's

Saved these from the dump...They were in a pile of bikes at a LBS that were lying in a garage behind the store. Paid $20.00 each. They both shift like they should, I am going to go through them clean them up and get them back on the road for someone to enjoy.

I love the re use and recycle mentality of the majority of participants on this thread. Thanks for doing the work brother!

Now that is cool, I'm always on the lookout for vintage model kits.

Several years ago I got a chance to fly in one. What an experience, looking out through the nose where the bombardier sat.

I only got to climb around inside one once, with a friend who had accounted for three with R4M rockets whilst flying a BF110 in daylight ops.

Wow! Why are people in the mood to throw away Trek 1000's lately? Picked this one up in a similar fashion. Needs a little work, but will be back on the road soon.

Weird, why would a bike shop just set those out like that? I would think they would fix them up and sell them as used bikes.

They'd have too much in them in time alone to make it profitable. Most people buying at an LBS aren't the rabid..... uh, AVID.... Yeah, that's it, avid, aficionados of old bikes we are and the ones that are want to do the rehab themselves.

I left the motorcycle stuff for you. She said they have a BMW motorcycle, maybe just for parts, though.

Going to buy this in a few hours. It's cheap enough that the barcons/triple are worth the cost, but I have a hunch it's something decent...

Oooooh, fun! Looking forward to the full report.

OK, it's not vintage and I didn't save IT from the dump but it may have saved my old rusty truck from the dump. A guy stopped a couple weeks ago and wanted to know if my old truck was for sale. I had been pondering what to do with it and was considering parting it out and scrapping the body. He noticed all my bikes and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. A bicycle my size and cash for my truck and all the spare parts I had accumulated for it. He seemed to want my old truck pretty badly so who was I to deny him? Of course I'm replacing almost everything on it ASAP with Deore XT and upgrading the fork with an air fork but I LOVE the color.

Wow, My hunch played out with a nice British buider. It looks like it had been a higher end bike that was "upgraded" in the 80s to (Suntour) index shifting and a (Shimano) triple. Original parts appear to be the Campagnolo downtube guide, pedals, and NR hubs laced to 27" MA2s.

Any idea as to the model year of the frame?

Dylansbob 05-23-22 12:13 PM

I haven't had a chance to dig into the archives to figure out the model or age. It's surely 531 (or better). Campy dropouts, 27.2 post, and very light. Here's the serial if anyone is interested.

Appears to be a 1973 Mistral, from what I can see of the head tube lugs. They are pointy. The site linked through the date I'm advancing has catalogs and stuff.

I just started work at a co-op. Some of the things I see destroyed for some reason or another is astonishing. I pulled this out of a truck headed to the scrap yard who thought they stop by the co-op and see if any of it was worth saving.

Here is a former frame of mine, I sold this Peugeot Super Competition a few years ago. It was purchased by someone who is one of the forum.
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...e725ccbd76.jpgHe sourced most of the parts from me as well, what was not from me is the stem, saddle and wheels.

Hmm, I think he needs an Italian next...

They’re worried that if people rode these bicycles they would question why the need a “new” bicycle!
