Nice it looks a lot like a Cannondale I found about 3 years ago in the trash,I don't know anything about it and it is sitting in storage with a bunch of other road bikes that I need to work on. Mine is way to small for me and must be a 16" frame and check out the bars,I think someone had them installed when they bought it new.
After looking at yours mine is a lot older as it has a double up front and a 5 speed freewheel that is froze in the rear and my brakes aren't the same.I need to drag my road bikes out of storage and go over them and get rid of the ones that don't fit me. http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...4/P5130003.jpg |
Just recently got into cycling, found an AMF pro tour road bike for 15 dollars at the local thift store and am using that currently as well as using it to learn my around a bike (repair/restoration). Yesterday I was browsing the local CL and saw a 'semi vintage bike-free' the picture was kinda blurry and all i could tell was it was womans frame and some type of utility bike with pannier rack and comfort bars, it was only ten minutes away so i figured i would give it a shot and just have another bike to tinker with, but after picking up the bike I think I may have stumbled onto a much nicer bike then i thought, although im not really sure so let me know.
The decals and the head badge say: J&B Quality Cycles Miami http://lh4.ggpht.com/_h8x8xQb1KKY/Sm...2/IMG_3764.JPG http://lh3.ggpht.com/_h8x8xQb1KKY/Sm...2/IMG_3736.JPG http://lh5.ggpht.com/_h8x8xQb1KKY/Sm...0/IMG_3720.JPG I've tried searching for that on the site and through out the web but I can't find any information about them I was a little curious about some of the other parts too like whats worth keeping and using/restoring/selling and whats garbage this bike has Arai Gold Breaks , Samir Saminox rims , goofy Trygg stand , Peltscher rack Sun Tour Derailleurs front-Sprint , rear-Honor , Brooks saddle (i know these are class already) I am unsure on identifying a few parts as well. Rear hub made in japan I guess its a 'Chair' but I couldn't find any information on the web about them. Front hub made in germany has a D or U logo. stem and handle bars didnt have any identifying mark besides the Alps logo on a bolt the crank didn't have any identifying marks either besides it was made in Japan. Everything looked sound except for the cassette and chain should be replaced, everything cleaned and re lubed/greased. The brake handles and front sprockets could be replaced but I don't think it would be absolutely necessary and probably could be cleaned up fine (although what do I know im just learning). Let me know if you have any insight or if I just have a bunch of random foreign parts. I don't intend on messing with too much until I am a little more comfortable with the tools in my hand or I have some knowledgeable supervision. sorry about the long post, thanks for the help. Just picked this one up a couple of nights back. The gentleman had been trying to sell it on craigslist and kijiji for the past year at a starting price of $900 CDN apparently, and had been consistently dropping it after no one actually showed up to view it in person.
He claims that it was only ridden twice, once to the police station to register it back in 1982, and once back (which would be one ride in my eyes but that part is not important). I ended up paying $340 CDN for it. It was listed for $400 most recently. It is either a late 1980 or early 1981 Nishiki 'Continental' designated for the Canadian market. Super clean and like new, and is equipped with: Double butted chromo tubing Sun tour Cyclone derailleurs Sun tour gear shifters Gran-Compe side pull brakes and levers Araya rims with sunshine hubs Sugino crank I almost don't want to even start riding this one as it's in such great shape. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...g?t=1248238307 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...g?t=1248238498 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...g?t=1248238453 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...g?t=1248238528 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...g?t=1248238564 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...g?t=1248299764 |

That's the first bike I've ever seen with the J&B badge, but they're a big importer of bike parts, still in business.

198X? Nishiki Rally...pics speak for themselves.
Picked this one up from the side of the road on my way ome from work. THe frame fits nicely, looks to be about a 60cm. In pretty rough condition mechanically, but with a good cleaning and basic tune up should be a pretty nice ride. Not light by any stretch of the means, but that's not why I got it. Been without a bike for the last 4 months, and have been needing to get some pedals under my feet again, this should fit the bill nicely. Cottered cranks may be a little bit of a challenge, but shouldn't be too bad. Anyway...on to the piktorz...

My favorite ad for the child seats on CL was earlier this year. It stated they were from a non smoking home. I emailed and told them I was glad their home wasn't smoking, cause that would be bad. They
were not amused, lol.,,,,BD |
Centurion Lemans Mixte - $41 - yes, that's a one. "All I have is $41 in my pocket, will you take that? Otherwise I'll have to run to an ATM but there arent any near by..."

^Don't use oxalic acid on aluminum, it will destroy it. For that I would use a toothbrush and soap, then use aluminum polish and a rag. Then lubricate all of the pivot points.

I spotted this early 80s Trek a few weeks ago while looking for a bike for my wife, but unfortunately it was a bit too big for her. A friend and I went back today and he picked it up for $160. Reynolds 531 tubing, Suntour Cyclone derailleurs and barcons, Dia-Compe brakes, Blackburn rack, and 27" Rigida rims.
It's going to clean up beautifully! http://www.boomspeed.com/artoflaw/incoming/trek_01.jpg http://www.boomspeed.com/artoflaw/incoming/trek_02.jpg http://www.boomspeed.com/artoflaw/incoming/trek_03.jpg |
I saved an electroforged 1952 Schwinn World Sport yesterday... it is at the bike co-op and even stripped down the frame a fork weight a ton.
It needs a new home. The fellow who donated it was 90 and told me he had bought it new in the US before coming to Canada and I could not bear to see it get tossed in the scrap heap... he told me he added the cyclo 3 speed in 1962. I got the 1962 Cyclo SA 3 speed conversion kit it came with... the rear d needs a new jockey wheel (I have one) but it is in otherwise fine shape and the shifter will shine up nicely. I plan to use it on my 1954 Raleigh Sports road bike to make it a retro tourer. |
Picked up a Nishiki International $32.00 What do ya think?
You cant imagine how much dust was on this thing lol for real it had branches of dust n grime, Anyway i picked it up at a yard sale yesterday for $32.00 I was so excited to get it home and see what lied beneath. Basically soaked it in spraynine (the wonder cleaner) and scrubbed her up, put some fresh tubes n tires ,chain, handlebar wrap, spare seat, brake cables and levers. And here she lies. Went out for a ride today just over 30 miles. just to get a feel for it. I was realy impressed. And if anyone could give me some insight into what year it might be it be much appreciated http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/s...8/P1030314.jpg

I think that Nishiki is from about 1988. Very nice.
Nice story, Sixty Fiver. What kind of bike shop do you work at? Is there a web site we can check out? |
