Recently I nabbed a couple of thrift store bikes, a Trek 720 and a Giant Nutra (both hybrids). Both bikes had baby seats installed on them which I promptly removed. Little did I know how expensive those baby seats are, they sell the rack separate from the seat. Amazon sells the complete set up for $170! Needless to say, those seats are off to C/L to find a new home. Sometimes the accessories will net as much as the bike!
The Giant is an interesting bike as it is geared more like a road bike (higher gearing) and has braze-ons for a front rack. The bikes cleaned up pretty good, and so did the baby seats. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3480/...b5d07af4_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3515/...fdacdbc3_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3522/...4f453687ba.jpg |
^the Trek is beautiful
I love this thread - it keeps my hopes alive that I will someday find something of value. Rather than the pile of kid's Walmart bikes that I got today...le sigh |

Not surprising, I wouldn't either. Just send me videos of you riding it and I can put it on a loop and watch it all day. :twitchy:

I pulled a Canadian Made Peugeot UO9 Super Sport out of a dumpster today. Besides flat tires and a little bit of rust, it seems to be in great shape, I'm excited to get to work on it.
Weinmann Rims Weinmann "Peugeot" branded brakes Malliard hubs Simplex "Peugeot" derailleurs "Peugeot" cranks Should be fun to work on. I also just finished turning a pile of metal, dirt, and grease that a friend donated to me back into a working 1970-something Raleigh Record. The paint is a little banged up, and sure it's heavy, but what a pretty bike. |
twoducks, I worked on a whole lotta UO-9's back in 19-well, never mind.
|
Any UO9-related secrets that you want to share with me before I dive into this one, noglider? I'm relatively new to this so every bike I work on holds new challenges and secrets.
|
Not really. My recollection is that it's a UO-8 with Weinmann brakes and a cotterless crank. It sold for about $189 in 1978 in NYC. They were nice to assemble.

Thanks
thanks for the comments and the info you all have given me on my nishiki. I really do feel lucky. i think the oil dust that covered it ,actually is what preserved it. like I said the spray nine did wonders. then jus took some superfine steel wool to the alloy followed by a little billit polish, the frame took a thorough cleaner wax treatment and some superglaze wax .the arayas took a bit of polish ,but werent half bad.
And yes i was on a mission to ride it , but i dont think it was a basket case. Jus needed someone to help . besides she needs some good memories to make up for all the time jus sitting:): |

Someone clearing out her storage space gave this to me today. It was her husband's, and he has a new bike.

I know, pretty incredible, huh?
I knew Fujis of this era, but I don't know this model. It has light Ukai rims, and they're gold. Anyone know more about it? I'm guessing it's from about 1985. |
Those goldies are rad!

" http://www.classicfuji.com/TeamFuji_1982_Page.htm Looks like a 1982. Pretty high up on the Fuji "totem pole", originally costing about $400. Might want to send them over a nice bottle of wine and a thank you card. Really, really, really nice bike! |
Going to try to get a carbon fork on this.. and getting camo bar wrap and new cables and chain. Its a flat black 105/slr/syntace equipped 1995 R700.
